Not all of us? Lol there are some who dont have kids yet? Lol im glad because in 2023 we were teens in the ‘08 recession era and it screwed everything up. We still recovering from the effect. Im glad I dont have kids yet because my generation has alot of single mothers that are in there 20s and early 30s. Its crazy how time went by ever since the recession era and it messed alot of ppls minds up.
I’m from 92. In 2001 the day before 9/11 I went to toys r us and my grandma bought me a creepy crawler bug maker set. Still remember like it was yesterday. The next day 9/11 happened and we got picked up from school early due to the attacks and I spend the next few days playing with my set and N64 and eating Burger King since some stores closed. I needed more goop to make my insects and toys r us was open but was so empty it was Erie. I’m 31 now. These kids in this video are all parents now I bey and have families of their own
I was working at Toy R Us in 2001 while I was in High School. I can't believe this specific era was caught, so cool! This video hits me in the heartstrings though. 22 years ago honestly does not feel that long ago, sigh.
Same here, brother. One of my earliest conscious memories that I can recall is playing the demo for one of the Metroid Prime games on the gamecube. As well as Paper Mario: TTYD. I also loved the Rescue Heroes toys so starting with that was a pure unfiltered blast of nostalgia lol
Same here, but mine are closer to 2005. I did visit these stores in my later years for the exclusive videogames & consoles they sold, but by the 2010s it was clear they couldn't keep up with the changing toy market anymore. If only that Amazon deal they had didn't go the way it did. Maybe then they wouldn't have died as fast. Well, at least the Geoffrey's Toy box Pop-up shops in Macy's & the ToysRUs Canda stores are still keeping the brand alive.
I was working on the seasonal overnight crew during the Christmas 2001 season. Harry Potter was huge at the moment and I still remember the Monsters Inc display at the front of the store. Another huge seller that Christmas was the new at the time, Razor scooters. They had 1 or 2 other brand names but Razor is the only one I remember. Also, those shoes with the built in roller skates were VERY popular that season!
Even though I was born in 99, I used to go to my local toys r us all the time when I was a kid until they shut down in the mid 2010s. From going and looking at original xbox to getting games and accessories for my ds/dsi, a true trip down nostalgia lane. Being stuck in the Lego and superhero section to riding the "open" bikes, skateboards, scooters, and rip sticks in the back of the store. Thank you for this trip
What a time capsule for sure. I remember I used to have the red-headed What's Her Face doll, one of the best toys I got that year. Thank you for the memories.
I was a full grown adult when this video was made. So nostalgic even as an adult. I did have fun being a kid and going to Toys R Us. Sad knowing all the stores have closed down.
I had so many of the toys shown in this video. Only thing missing was a clip of the Power Rangers aisle 🤣 Thanks for all these uploads, it's such a nostalgia trip seeing these toy and electronics sections from my childhood, so many hours spent in them waiting on my mom to finish grocery shopping.
Shame there was no footage of the action figure aisles. Even into the early 2000s, they had Terminator 2 and POTF2 figures taking up space. At least in central Ohio.
Yeah, Toys R Us always felt like some kind of museums when it came to some of its merchandise. I remember seeing PS2’s and games well into 2014-2015, when most stores already stopped carrying the PS2, lol.
@@keybyss98 Yeah, Walmart had a number of straggling PS2 games for a long time. Bottom of the barrel stuff, usually. I remember seeing Guitar Hero Aerosmith sitting on the shelf for so long the cover had been sunbleached. That game came out in 2008, and I think I remember seeing it in like 2015-2016.
I wish that I could have recorded things when I was a kid. I still have dreams about massive amounts of Gundam merch in stores, like how I remember it in my local Toys-R-Us.
I remember doing Christmas shopping for my kids back in 2001. We would do the shopping so that Santa didn’t have to do it. My kids wanted that Gameboy advance thing the year it came out.
This video makes me emotional for so many different reasons. This was hands down my best christmas you dont even understand the amount of games and dragonaball z/anime toys/merch i got. God i would do anything to go back to those times. now heres the bittersweet part. Even though that was my favorite christmas i personally know for others it was the worst.. Im born and raised in New york.....and. being that this was from 2001........ Its so surreal to see 9/11 being so fresh in society. It hits so close to home because my classmate lost her older cousin and the people in my town lost loved ones too. Infact we were so close and yet far we could even see the smoke from afar. Luckily my dad worked uptown and wasnt down town that tuesday. Man im so conflicted, cause tho i loved this christmas holiday looking back as an adult i could only imagine what my classmate and others were going through.
I know right ! I believe this was the year when they hit the market and made a huge hit ! I remember being 7/8 when they came out and received the first original lineup Yasmin doll and became instantly hooked !
For me it's the Rescue Heroes at the beginning. Most underrated (and mishandled) franchise of all time. A toy line marketed to preschoolers, but a movie & TV show (especially season 1) that were AMAZING and could only be fully appreciated by older kids & adults. But most have no idea because Fisher-Price logo dissuaded them from seeing it.
I was six at the time of this recording man. Had quite a bit of these toys (and might still have a few stored). Used to go to our TRU a lot after dinner at the IHOP right up the road. Miss these times a lot. Thanks for the upload man.
I wish I could've experienced this era of being a kid old enough to remember things. I was 1 at the time of this video, so I don't believe I remember anything that happened before the year 2003. Seemed like a cool time to be a young kid and go into the store w/ you parents and pick out the toy you've been seeing on the tv commercials
This must be my prime toy time because I recognize A LOT of this stuff... I had that Rescue Ranger at 1:13! 4:47 The most attention that has ever been paid to Mike Wazowski's poorly represented eye. I had Dr. Drill and Fill and all those Bob Lego sets at around 7:00, it made me tear up a bit. I had the Home Depot set at 12:00, I remember putting together the birdhouse with my dad. Another great video, this is my Toys R Us just like I remember it. Thank you so much.
What a time to be a kid! I was 4 years old when this video was made. I remember some of these toys and I even remember playing with that Jurassic park playdoh set at 6:20. It's crazy to see it in the box and for sell brand new
Thanks for showing us a full tour of what it was like ,inside a 2001 Toysrus Store. We will never have a Toysrus like the one show here again.Accept for the ones located inside of Macy's.
How did you even get Ahold of this video!? Thanks for this video! Its so awesome its like having a time machine. wish they would of showed more of the action figures/video games. But ill take it!
Holy crap, I remember that giant Sully display. Although the one at my local Toys R Us was on the ground, not up top a shelf. I even remember that the sign said something to the effect of "Please don't touch, Sully scares easily."
I was born in '03, but seeing this still makes me nostalgic, especially seeing footage of Harry Potter, Monsters Inc, & Lord of the Ring toys when they were new in stores.
