I had those rails on my 891 before I car mounted it. One day while playing radio my oldest son hooked the coax on his foot and yanked it off the table. The 891 hit hard. I picked it up, no damage. The rail was bent a bit. I unscrewed it and bent it back into shape and the coating NEVER broke.
There are pricey rails, but MAN they are good quality. 100% support Portable Zero.
Yes they are very good quality. Hopefully I'll never have to experience a drop test like that though. I can just imagine the whole scene in slow motion; Nooooooooo, crash!
I just had mine delivered two days ago. I have looked at other less expensive ones but decided on the best one. You usually get what you pay for. I am very pleased with this. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Thanks for this video - happy to see that someone makes this product. My 1st HF - G90 - has them built in, happy I can add them to the 7300
That is a nice addition, have tons of fun with it.
Those rails are pretty neat Mike! That will surely give you a peace of mind while using your rig on the go. 73
Great video!! I have been looking at getting the ones for my FT-891. Looks like I will now have to get an additional set for my IC-7300. Keep up the great work!
Yeah I need a set for the 891 too! It's taking a beating for sure. Thanks for watching!
Makes me think of an updated 7200... Awesome, I want one!☝️😄
And the 7200 is a little beast!
My Xiegu G90 came with those high-performance hot rod handles. :-)
Nice upgrade! If i had a 7300 that I was planning to take portable I don't think I'd leave home without those.
True that. I took it out once or twice and was extra careful with it. Not that I'm not now but this is a nice insurance policy for sure.
Looks great. And it being an Icom, you don't have to fight with the firmware problems of a Xiegu ;-) Thanks for the show.
PAUL
I have the rails for my 7300 also. They sent me a set also, but I had to send them some money. They are very good quality, and I'm glad I have them on there. Not only for portable use, but to protect the tuning know also. BTW, great channel, I look forward to your videos! 73 KB3JC
Thanks Steve. This is definitely a great thing to have on your radio. Makes me feel a little better outside especially. Extremely good quality too.
Nice video! I use the Escort Rails on my FT-817 and my IC-703. They are just awesome and give good protection! But the prices for shipping to Germany are a pain in the .... :-) 73, Stephan, DF6PA
That looks awesome. Can see a use for the straps for the IC-9700 for satellite work. I swear this hobby is going to make me broke. W8BRY
That would be a perfect application yes. And yeah this ain't an inexpensive hobby for sure...
I love those protectors!! I have the one for the FT-817ND and it makes me feel better knowing the back in and the front end controls are protected. Juddie - WD8WV
They are great for sure. Now I don't have to worry about bumping something off. I'm not the most delicate person in the world with my stuff so I need all the help I can get.
Same here. The 817 got one as soon as I could get it in the mail. I just purchased the 857 and the rails were ordered even before the radio arrived. Easier and cheaper than sending it in to get knobs and switches replaced.
Second! You should do a live stream while on the radio! It would be great to be able to work you park to park while doing POTA!
I have enough issues just filming regularly let alone a live stream haha! You can download the HamAlert app on your phone and you will get notifications when I'm spotted though.
I put it on my 891 to protect it, love it.
I need to get on for my 891 now.
it like a roll cage for your radio... btw i here some off buzzing in the middle part of the video. can't wait to see you use that beast outside potable
Exactly, hold my beer! There was some interference into the mic for a minute and I couldn't quite get rid of it. I've already got another video edited I'll post in another few days portable.
You are going to need a Van to make up your mind what to take out Mike...
I know, it's tough. Which radio? Which antenna? I have some friends who are building a ham van out of an old TV broadcast van. That's the way to go!
@@hamradiotube I would LOVE one, myself. The wife might object, though.
@@davidsradioroom9678 Just tell her its cheaper than a new radio!
What I find lacking is cable management for the back of the radio and a way to securely attach the frame to something. Those would be great "add on" products for the product line. That way the radio could be securely mounted at home or portable (i.e. in a vehicle) and removed for portable use. Being able to keep the power cables with the radio is always a plus in my book as that is the connector that will break (along with the tuner socket) if given the chance.
Cable management isn't really that important to me. You have a power wire and coax. Not much to manage. Plus, thats not really the goal with this, its to protect your radio. I just wrap the power wire up neatly and use a Velcro strap to keep it together. I hear what you are saying, and have seen others keep their cables on the radio, but to me it is just a jumble mess, and I prefer to keep things a bit more tidy.
I just ordered one, I hope you still made a little money on the deal.
Hello,
Great product & review video!
Are the handle hooks plastic or metal?
Also, can you get a 90 degree connector for that power molex? I'm thinking a 90 degree to a short cable/Anderson would increase durability.
73
Thanks JP. The hooks are plastic. Not sure about a 90 degree connector. I don't really need one with this though. It extends enough to protect everything on the front and back.
I’ve had these for a few months. No 7300 yet since i know it’s going to be sub $1000 on Black Friday. They do look nicely made. 89 bucks yes but they only offer Priority Mail so it more like 99 in the end.
Still totally worth it vs having your radio fixed from a bad fall, or worse yet, having to buy a new radio.
K8MRD RADIO STUFF for sure. Remember couple vids back when i asked about the 7300 possibly replacing the 891 as your take to the field radio? You said naw but look what’s happening now 😃
@@forgetyourlifeI know I know, but you get so spoiled having that waterfall you tend to miss it when it's not around.
K8MRD RADIO STUFF yeah, i’m kinda wondering about the same fate for my 891. I got rails for that too by the way.
Put a 100AH Lifepo4 battery under it and find a way to put an antenna come out with a bent so when you are carrying it the antenna sticke up. And you will have a 100 watt handy talky! HAHA! 73 de W4DES
These rails are a guaranteed panty dropper.
Forrest Andrews you have no idea how many girls I have to turn away when I’m out doing an activation with this set up.
@@hamradiotube I just got another set for my ft857d. Keep up the great vids!
I'm on their website, and there is an option. Flared front or straight front 🤔 any idea what it is?
Prob too late but the one I have is the flared front where the handles are bent out to give more room to play with the knobs. The straight front is, well, straight.
Very stylish
When you have a face like mine you need all the help you can get hihi!
I looked at those those for my IC-706MKIIG but they were just too expensive. I've gone with a similar product called RigIron. Made in Finland they are made from laser cut stainless steel, and incorporate legs to raise the front of the radio. They may not be powder coated but they are very strong.
I've seen those too. I think Julian oh8stn uses those on his 891. Anything is better than nothing.
Hello! Absolutely great videos! I'm cheering for you and watching each one. Just explain to me why you use the satanic symbol in your greeting? I do not assume you do not know what it is ... Otherwise, all good Jiri :)
Because I'm a metal head.
Portable Zero are losing loads of custom in the UK & Europe as they don't export them & to get them shipped to the UK It costs as much for shipping as it does for the product
Yeah thats a bummer. I hear its tough getting a lot of stuff over the pond. I was just talking to Kevin from Bioenno today about that. I guess batteries are really hard to ship over there too, what with all the countries having different laws surrounding them. Thats crazy that it would cost that much to ship the rails though. They weigh almost nothing. But you can get anything you want shipped from China for super cheap. Go figure...
@@hamradiotube Yeah I ended up 3D Printing some for my ft891
"Wershers"? Yup, you're from the Midwest!
Haha! I said that intentionally but yes, I've spent most of my life here.
K8MRD RADIO STUFF What
Art of the Midwest says, “Wershers” .Maybe upper Midwest. I grew up outside St. Louis, MO, and it’s more like “Wau shers”. Always interested in regional linguistic variations.
@@RobPetty622 Exactly, upper Midwest like Minnesota, Wisconsin etc.
i have i for my 817 and ft991 i think they nickle and dime you
I don't care for it... I like the one Icom sells better for my needs.
Icom sells rails for the 7300?
@@hamradiotube Yes, for my use that is better. I have those on my 706MKIIg, and really like them. Makes it easy to carry, like a lunch box. Not the same class as what your showing in your video and I understand that.
@@Laborkei I see a carrying handle from Icom, but its nothing like these.
@@hamradiotube That’s what I said, I don’t understand your point. I don’t like these ok, my opinion... good for some but not for me...
@@Laborkei Wow, calm down buddy! You made it sound as if Icom sold metal protective rails like this. I was trying to clarify.
Hate to be cheap but I don’t think there worth $72.00
Just don't drop your radio!
1st!
