- Germany's Can are known for concocting an unlikely blend of avant-garde and the primal. Their 1972 album Ege Bamyasi struck a balance between sublimity and chaos that pushed the boundaries of what rock music and a rock band could be.

Can's Ege Bamyasi in 5 Minutes
Stephen Malkmus once said he listened to this album every night for a year. I know how he feels, this never gets old.
Stephen Malkmus of Pavement has been quoted as saying "I played Can's Ege Bamyası album every night before I went to sleep for about three years."
he's literally so awesome
RIP Damo Suzuki 🙏
The fact that Pitchfork of all things covered such an overlooked album is awesome!
One of the most underrated bands.
They are one of the most acclaimed krautrock bands out there wot
+Anal Staircase outside of kraut rock and experimental rock bands they are not at all popular so in many ways he's correct.
What good experimental band isn't underrated?
+Reptile estrin Radiohead could be but in some ways even they're still underrated
Loneliest Monk well in my opinion, they're highty overrated.
Bamya tarifi arıyordum nereye geldim
Peak müzik
Please do "Ladies and Gentlemen we are Floating in Space" next.
Man, I been on this CAN tip for a minute, thanks for breaking it down for me.
Favourite band ever
Do "lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven" next
Matt Melchin21 yes
Matt Melchin21 *yes*
*Y E S*
Yes
Well, now I can see where LCD Soundsystem gets some influence from
Amazing band, discovered them because of Radiohead.
Great video for an amazing band, good job pitchfork.... just need more liner notes from more generally lesser known bands.
Masterpiece!!
do Remain in Light please
"Jaki Liebezeit, who, after a strange encounter with a fan began to play more monotonous beats"
can someone please explain this? I cannot rest until I understand.
hermex Look up the Krautrock documentary with CAN

After a jazz gig a stranger approached him and told him: “You must play monotonously!”
borbetomagus legit
The motorik beat
Mispronouncing names:
Ege Bamyasa
Jackie Liebezeit
Deimo Suzuki
It's Pitchfork. Expect a few pretensions and assumptions, not to mention the obligatory name-dropping. Get that Cred, PF!
Thanks for finally settling HOW you say the title.
I love Cologne. It's such a beautiful city.
Thanks for that book report!
Soup is my favourite song!
so fucking good
You should have included the fun fact that the band Spoon take their name from the song, "Spoon", on this album.
Ege Bamyasi tied with Tago Mago as my second favorite CAN album, Future Days being their best imo. All three of these albums are easily 10/10, though, and the follow up to Future Days, Soon Over Babaluma, is only slightly behind these, easily 9.5/10. I rank Future Days as only slightly above the other two bc it's stylistically a more consistent whole, and because, like Babaluma, it explores more ambient, tranquil territory, while maintaining the psych-kraut artistry of of Ege and Tago.
Imo Tago and Ege are companion/brother(or sister) albums if sorts, as are Future and Babaluma.
These are the 4 CAN albums you NEED as a music fan, and while the others are great in their ways, CAN these are masterpieces of experimental, psychedelic, and krautrock styles.
Why do people always dismiss Saws Delight? Yes it’s later but I feel it fits Ege Bamyasi very very well. Quite comperable
I think Monster Movie and Soundtracks are more important than Babaluma
Future Days is my favorite too.
my connection is your connection
Do now a video of the mastahpieze Corey Feldman Angelic 2 the Core
Best album ever. Oh yeah and the band Spoon
What was the strange encounter with the fan? So ominous
aww fuck yeah.
I always thought the song went "hey you! you're naughty (x4), your bloody sleeve"
i wanna see one on Mellon Collie.
Best album ever!
Well after Tago Mago yes, you may well be correct!
how about some jazz for the next liner notes? Maybe kind of blue or Otis Redding sings soul...
Trust me, you don't want pitchfork getting anywhere near jazz...
live reactions to this video:
hmm pitchfork actually knows what this is?
"EGO BAMYASO"
...
"DAYMO SUSUKI"
yea nvm
Actually that's how you're supposed to pronounce bamyasi www.i18nguy.com/unicode/turkish-i18n.html
Not sure about Damo
pdg887 he's not that bad but that's not the exact pronunciation of 'bamyası'. we don't stress the words that much as he does. also the last letter' ı ' isn't pronounced like 'uh' or 'wuh', nonetheless he pronounces well despite the fact that he's a foreign-speaker.
no. thats not how you say ege bamyasi at all. Sources: Im turkish.
Please do let love in by nick cave and the bad seeds
Should have done tago mago
Future Days fans represent
Ege Bamyası? Lmao this made me laugh
What's Jaki's "strange encounter with a fan?" What's the story there?
It wasn't a fan. It was another drummer.
Another jazz drummer told Jaki to 'play the same thing' (apparently). Jaki took that advice.
@@SuperCartiel There's an interview on youtube of Jaki himself saying it was just some guy. probably a fan after a show, ua-cam.com/video/nm8MjLDbQ2o/v-deo.html go to around 3:30 something
I. " Can "
And I will..

hey i'm from turkey and you're pronouncing it wrong, so damn funny:D ege bamyası it is lol
Get off your high horse, Abdul. I've been to Turkey and heard the locals trying to speak English. That wasn't so great either.
@@pch2230 Abdul? You could've at least tried something like Mehmet.
Görəsən niyə Ege Bamyası qoyublar?)
Valla bende bilmiyorum

Ege Bamyasi literally means Aegean Okra in turkish lol
i learned this by watching the video "Can's Ege Bamyasi in 5 minutes"
lol i wrote the comment before watching the video, then I forgot to watch the video
ended up here because of jojo’s bizarre adventure
ege bamyası oğlum ege bamyası düzgün okusana la şunun ismini
Tago Mago is better
hmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmm interesting
relax, guy
Future Days is best.
hell yeah. Bel Air = best song of the 70s
I prefer Ege Bamyasi. It's more seductive, beguiling, and unique. I enjoy its abundance of great pop songs and more condensed structure (the second half of "Soup" is like the entire 2nd LP of Tago Mago boiled down to a super potent, sticky resin). Tago Mago is certainly better recorded, but feels more in line with what other heavy psych and jam bands of the era were doing, and is therefore less special to me.
Future Days >Ege Bamyasi > Tago Mango
Sudev Sen Ass backwards
This is correct
Sometimes I prefer Tago Mago* a lil more than Ege, but yes Future Days>all.
>Mango
kek
@FriedIcecreamIsAReality Let's not forget Soundtracks
