  • Lusaka, Zambia and Africa as a whole is at a point in its growth where we must find our own indigenous solutions to our problems. No longer can we just emulate because our path has taken on a direction that is different from all other continents. In this talk Mwansa Ndemi Mbewe goes over one such problem in Lusaka's traffic problem. He deals with a couple misconceptions as to a potential solution and explains why they can't work and what should be done instead. An underlying thread is how that design must be intelligent and we should not be relaxed and let issues get solved by accident. We need real thought and real solutions, indigenous solutions.

Mwansa Ndemi Mbewe was born in Lusaka, Zambia and studied at Cyprus International University for a degree in Architecture. Mwansa is a lover of design solutions that unravel problems faced by communities and he believes in the power of information to elevate society. Mwansa’s philosophies are shaped by the Christian worldview and the capitalist nature of the corporate world, but he determines that both need not conflict to affect lasting change in a society. He is the co-founder of Tarsus Information Hub, a company that bridges the information gap between consumers and suppliers and aims to boost market share and efficiency to both.

Interesting, but this solution may have overlooked the encroachment of unplanned settlements that make city planning a nightmare

Mwana Lubemba.... Those are the solutions we need in Zambia and those are the solutions that need to be forwarded to our local community developers but the Sad thing is we are the only people who have the power to explore and make them a reality because the politics to archive your idea would actually blind the people from what is important.... great idea though... big ups

You simply described Johannesburg. Let me tell you that no one will be cycling to work, it does not happen like that as you simply will not live close enough to cycle as the urban sprawl grows. I suggest you visit Johannesburg and do some further research. What you have is a concept, but research is very important. Goodluck!

great incite, however its very possible. I don't even cycle to work, I walk. why? because of the same reasons he has explained. The creation of commercial hubs enables everyone to get access to facilities. What will make make go to manda hill is I have all the amenities I need within my community? I strong say that commercial hubs hubs will enable companies to plummet within communities or at lease they will be near enough if not exactly within. I say bravo to the concept. Great work Mwansa.
