    You need not be sorry to wrap up your talk with the scriptures. That was amazing. It is thought provoking and I'm hoping we listen and act on all he has said. Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, thank you for this. Sitting in my work station and listening to this has made me resolve to add value to everyone I can and not wait till I am made.

    "We are a people that define success by our individuality rather than our society". This is so profound, Ìyìn. Glad to see how far Future Africa has come since then. Cheers to collectively building a more equal generation.

    Son, this individualistic mindset has been taught to us for the past 600 years. However, the original African mindset was togetherness. When you start think I, me and myself then there is trouble. I hope you will help us change..

      Well said , brother and direct , bold indeed . But don't focus only in Nigeria but Africa as a whole particular educated one , graduates, intellectual, and elite ones keeps themselves apart and I know why ? The time taken through all the struggle and hardship . LOAN AND SACRIFICES then comes repayment of student loan . help me out here - which direction should we direct our energy to sacrifice efforts to build Africa ? TOGETHER ? !!!

    This got me...
    "Perhaps, the impostors syndrome is just a fact"
    Because, in a more equal society, will I really be the one standing here?
    In a more equal society, would we be in our seats? Or would other people be more qualified?

    Iyin, thanks much. That's really good. In life what do I really need... Do I need more than food, 10 pieces of cloths, 3 rooms apartment and good education for my kids - just basic things of life? This is the question I have asked myself long time ago and my response is - no, I dont. There and then (in the voice of Ravi Zechariah, -:) ) I decided to live for humanity and that is what it is to conquer life!

    This is some dope stuff. Very touching. But I think even collective interest is fuelled by personal interest, just that the reward may be more intrinsic.

    While I agree with the sentiment in this talk, it's important to remember there are very important reasons why Nigeria, and the African continent, is the way it is.
    With that said, I would've loved to hear some more concrete policy proposals to turn the bad hand we've been dealt to a strength.
    I'll propose some myself. One would include intentionally diversifying the public higher education system by abolishing catchment area. In addition to abolishing the catchment area, I would suggest a zero-interest loan system fir public universities which incentivise going further from one's domiciled state to study - adjusting for parental income.
    Furthermore, I would do away with state of origin across the country. Instead, I'd replace it with state of domicile (defined as a place one has lived/worked for over 120 working days of the year). I'd also abolish the terms "indigene" or "settler" (or words alluding to those words) from the Constitution, and requirements for public service, work, or govt benefits. In principle, there shouldn't be a "settler/indigene Nigerian" and it needs to be backed up by the Constitution.

    What kills me is that there are so many bright Nigeriaans but none in government why is that?

    • @lifetop10s96

      Nepotism

    • @iamaku09
      @iamaku09 3 роки тому

      Also brain drain, most of ur bright minds leave Nigeria for “greener pastures”. They prioritise personal success and the well-being of their own families. They come to work in the west where they easily get paid 10x higher than what they would get in Nigeria. It’s a tough problem to solve. Requires a lot of sacrifice and foresight.

    • @wantsusimichael1559
      @wantsusimichael1559 2 роки тому +2

      When bright people like him get to government, they get overwhelmed by state machinery of elitism. They forget that each of them can cause small changes with far reaching positive consequences of transforming the public sector for social and environmental wellbeing across Africa. Instead, they glide in existing structures as set up by colonialists. They behave as if it is written in stone that state structures never change for the better. Wantsusi G. Michael
