    We just had a well drilled in Oklahoma. Total depth was 180 ft. Pump set at 140 ft. Flow is 18 gallons per minute. $7000.00 complete. The water is a little hard but is treatable with a softener and RO for drinking water. I feel lucky to have the well we have.

    The video was very helpful to give an overview of how to install a well pump that uses a pitless adapter. One bit of advice I would give is to unroll the pipe by rolling the entire coil along the ground. That way it will not be a big spiral like that. Also, put a stick through the spool of wire and let it unroll as well. Don't pull it off of one end. Same thing with the rope. Unroll, don't pull off an end. That is why stuff gets kinks and coils you don't want.

    Thankyou thankyou..after listening to you at the end, budget and all. I'm am in a similar situation, I'm a carpenter, but pretty handy around most things. You give me the confidence and filled in the gaps for me. I had a temporary hooked up with pressure tank sitting beside well ($1500)..with a hose running to RV while I rebuild house after fire. But here in South eastern Ontario, the freeze is coming. So not only the 1000's Ill save, but the availability of a contractor to do what I need here...thankyou you thankyou!

    I found you video today and it was very interesting and you seem like very nice people. I may have discovered an error in your installation. At or around the 19 minute mark the gentleman decided to use brass instead of galvanized for the adapter. Brass, with a greater electronegativity will at as a cathode and steal electrons from the zink, as it is the the less noble metal. Once the zink is removed the the iron underneath will begin to corrode. This will go unnoticed at first. The first sign will be the pump cycling more often, this will happen due to a hole developing in the galvanized reducer or the one inch nipple at the pump. As the hole gets larger the pump will not shutoff. I would urge you to pull the pump and replace the fittings with either brass or galvanized and not mix dis-similar metals. Only my opinion and you can research this yourself, galvanic corrosion. Best of luck, Shawn.

    I installed wells and pumps for many years. I hope you used black electrical tape to secure the wire to the poly pipe as you dropped it down the well. It should be taped about every 5 feet at the pump end for at least the first 100 feet. Then tape about every 10 to 20 feet thereafter. If you didn't the torque from the pump starting will whip the wire against the wall of the well causing a short circuit over time and you will have to pull the pump and replace the wire. Also you do NOT want to use a straight piece of pipe to attach to the pitless adapter but make a "T" handle so that if it ever slips as you go to remove the pump it will not fall in the well. Many of my service calls were pumps put in by inexperienced installers who did not tape the wire properly to the poly pipe. You want to use Scotch Super 88 tape. I saw you using zip ties and would not recommend those because those can cut into the wire from torque. A 3/4 horse pump has a tremendous amount of torque starting.

    We are going to be drilling a well soon on our property in Montana. I was really interested in the "Pittless Adapter". This avoids having the whole well infrastructure in a vault with electricity and pressure tank underground. So many issues with that configuration like leaks, potential gas, or electrocution going into a a vault underground. The Pittless Adapter makes it work safely so that there is no freeze of your well at the frost line. Then the pressure tank, electronics can be in a structure in the house or in a well house above ground that can be warm without freezing. Thanks for sharing this video. I feel much better understanding how this all works.

    awesome job. thanks for posting, I'm learning a lot here. I'm planing on installing my own pump so this was the best video I could watch to see exact process..     Thank you for the great step by step information. I thought it was cool that you where using a PVC pipe to install your pitiless, I'm glad I watched more of the video as I will definitely use a steel pipe instead. :) That just reassured me that with a little elbow grease and determination, although not always perfect, we can all realize our goals and appreciate our efforts and success!

    As a fellow lineman for 36 years, you’ve got a great father in law. As a few others have already said, tape the pump wires all the way up the well, use stainless pipe connectors. Maybe a check valve every 100feet in the pipe to take pressure off the one at the pump.

    Thank you for just doing the running process, I've never seen how one of those things get put together. Wow, you are right, lots of technical knowledge and it was neat just listening to Scott's dad fill in the what's it and why. Thanks. Hope it does what it's supposed to do and you have trouble free water. Get that sucker backfilled before the snow gets in the trench :)

    I had a similar situation with my well. We Kept drilling and at 240 feet we were producing 3 GPM. Went another 100 feet and still 3 GPM. We called it at that point and decided to live with it. Like you we have about 400 gallons in the static column. Initially before we inhabited the house, I ran a hose wide open until we dried the well. Did it a couple of times. It took over an hour to dry it. According to the engineering tables I found we were flowing 1000 GPH so ultimately I think production improved. Still wouldn't want to have to put a fire out or water a lawn but it's been good for 2 years. We did install a variable speed pump so our water pressure is constant.

    Well done. You see what I did there? LOL I was fussing at the screen when y'all's dad started with the Teflon tape, and so relieved when he corrected it. Yeah, a steel or iron pipe would have save you guys probably an hour on getting that fittless together, maybe more. (It's hard to tell for sure with the editing.) Glad you guys got water. That is maybe the most important find on any homestead. Although, with the precipitation you guys get you would have likely been just fine collecting rain water and running it through a filter (if the filter would even be necessary up there).     We finally put our wire in polly tubing as we would get rubbing off our casing wearing through in random spots and shorting to the casing. The pump does a little twist every time it starts and that can be a problem. After pulling it up the 5 times in 20 years it has initially, we haven't had an issue in the last 15.

    You have LOTS of precipitation (rain and snow) that can be used for water if you spend a few thousand in holding tanks and processing equipment.

    that is the wrong way to undo piping or wiring that is on a spool.. u want to undo it like thread coming off of a spool. that way it will not end up all coiled up.

    What size/model pump and capacitor was used? I couldn't tell... we have to put our pump at about the same depth. I was planning on using a 1 HP franklin.

    Glad you got that done before the freeze! I love watching old timers work due to the many years of experience.
    I know they were probably all you had, but I hate seeing the galvanized fittings you used on the pump. It's not worth using them...especially at the bottom of your well. When installing your plumbing in the house, invest in brass or cooper fittings only, it's better in the long run. Keep up the good work!

    Way, way, WAY too much Teflon tape on those joints. Two rounds ...max. BTW.....The military did NOT invent Teflon...nor was it for NASA. It was "invented" by accident by DuPont, who was trying to develop refrigerant alternatives.. Lab tech accidentally left a valve open on a TFE cyclinder.....accidentally resulting in the Teflon discovery.

    Everything looks good!! I do have a question on the pitless. What was the reasoning for the 10 foot bury? I service wells and well pumps in MD, and typical pitless depth is 3-5 foot. Great video!!

    Hol hol hold on good people. You said something very interesting at 1:03 about them blasting the well. How is this done exactly and what did they use? Asking because i have a low yield well that i believe needs just that.

      The guys drilling the well used something charged (not dynamite) to shake it up down there. The best choice would be fracking, but we had to do whatever the well-drillers were offering at that point. Thankfully, it worked, and we have had an abundant supply of excellent drinking water since then.
