I just saw an ad, Vancouver to Paris next year for under $200. Mind you after you add on all the made in Canada fees it's probably closer to $1000 but that's still cheaper than Vancouver to Toronto.
Air Canada and West Jet vastly overcharge. I fly overseas 6 times a year. I save about $700 by adding a flight and going international out of Dallas or Chicago or San Francisco instead of Vancouver or Toronto. Air Canada and West Jet are out of control.

Many canadians live close to the border and their purchasing power is greater in the US, therefore we lose that economic activity. For example, I recently flew out of buffalo instead of Toronto, the same flight was 300$ cheaper, the parking was cheaper, bought a bottle of rum at half the cost. 400$ plus that could be spent elsewhere in the economy. I'm 1 of millions.

Recently also booked a hotel in Sydney, Australia and found through the booking site that cheap motels in Sydney, Nova Scotia are comparable in price to decent hotels in nice neighbourhoods in Sydney, Australia. The obvious explanation is that air travel (like most other things) is much too expensive in Canada. Just let foreign airlines serve Canada. If the Canadian ones can't compete then let them go bankrupt. The same goes for supermarkets, telecommunications companies, etc.

Depends on where you are looking. Trips to Europe from Canada can be found from $600-$800 this spring. Asia still pricey.
