Underwater (snorkel) fishing in the Maldives

  • Took a trip with my wife to the Raa Atoll in the northern Maldives. Fishing was not the primary reason for the trip but I was thankfully able to try some new types of fishing while there. This place is truly an underwater paradise and I feel I only scratched the surface exploring on my own. The highest elevation in all 1300 of the Maldivian islands is only 6 feet, and over 1000 of those islands are uninhabited! Truly a beautiful and miraculous place that I'm super thankful I got to check out.

      oh yea that's right! Its a very healthy ecosystem there, even with some of the corals dying, the sharks and schools of fish are strong! I do like that sapphire blue water too, its gorgeous

    It's great that you can go out and experience these trips while you're young enough to enjoy it. There are several places I've always wanted to go Unfortunately they still remain on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing

      Thank you Bob for the perspective! It wasn’t easy to get over there but wow am I glad we did it. Your so right though the brevity of life and how fast it goes. No time like the present, I hope you still get to do some of those trips on the bucket list!

    That looked gorgeous, thank you for sharing Peter. Glad you got to get out and explore a warm climate, and do a little underwater fishing. That must've been a long plane ride! Looking forward to checking out the rest of the vids

      It was incredible Bob, the videos and pictures we have from the trip dont even do it full justice. If you big into diving I think it’s a must see destination. And you nailed it, the only downside and I mean only, was the ✈️. About 22 hours total in the air on 4 different planes, the last being a sea plane. The sea plane was awesome though. Can’t wait to show you the rest of the vids!

    Thanks for sharing this amazing experience. I bought similar artificial shrimps. Will have a try on north shore after this winter.

      I’m glad you liked it! I’m with ya, I think we can use these doa shrimps up here in the northeast, especially in the spring when the water is colder, clearer, and the stripers actually feed on grass shrimp a lot early spring from what I’ve heard.

    Been thinking about underwater fishing for years. Gotta try this. Doubt it'll work in Cape May's chocolate milk... I mean water.

      @PeterRanieriII  Рік тому

      haha, yea thats the only problem with really all the water in the northeast. It clears up for us in the sound in late fall to early spring but its just too cold to be in the water then. Does it clear up in the cold months by you?

      @@PeterRanieriII I was born in Wildwood and have a place in North Cape May and the only time I've ever seen clearish water down here is in youtube spearfishing videos. Though I haven't spent enough time "in" the water in the cold monthes to notice.

      @PeterRanieriII  Рік тому

      Dave! It was such a cool place man. I got the rod from aliexpress. It’s called emrod stainless and I think it was the medium-heavy action one. The reel was something I had picked up at a garage sale for $5 and it had sat in my storage collecting dust for 10 years or so. It did a very good job lol I would totally try this again if I’m anywhere where the water is clear 😆
