I’ve been wanting to buy one for so long then today I found this one brand new for 6 dollars at goodwill and they marked it as a toy...so glad can’t wait to use it for first time.
I do a lot of GMRS operation and those little Baofeng CAN be programmed for those frequencies, so i bet I could use that little thing for GMRS. WRVF669 is my fcc callsign along with the usual KC9CPX..
I doubt it would damage the radio using on vhf, it's only 1 watt after all, if it reflects 80% will still be too little, specially if you don transmit for long periods
@@Iridium242 i would use these as a walkie talkie to talk with my girlfriend (she lives 15 miles away). is it difficult to program in FSR to use without lic?
Hi, I bougth two of these baofeng BF T1 440 Mini but they dont transmit to each other!! They only receive music radio frequencies like in the car! Why? They need programing?? Please help me im really frustated I really like these radios.
You need to program them. Baofeng has an app on their download page called "9100" you need that and the programming cable for this radio and it should be easy enough to program.
@@Iridium242 hi, allready programed it with the 9100 program you talled me, I cant communicate with the other radio more than 100 meters, but it does receives that automatic reptition clip on the repeater in my area that is 2,8 km away, and it seams to transmit too because some times after transmitting I ear noise. I really dont understand whats missing! I also receive from another repeater thats 30 km away no sound just the green light.
Hello, i recently bought 2 of these. Can i comunicate with my wife in a camping trip or survival situation using FRS channels only, it this legal or not ? I live in FL
The frequencies that come programmed in them are partly in the ham band and partly on the public service band, so I would not use those, You can always re-program it for use on FRS but it would still technically be illegal to use as the radio is not FCC type accepted for that.. but I doubt anyone is going to chase you down for that. You would need a ham license to operate this legally on ham bands.
i understand that but the radio dosent have esternal antenna and is programing by computer not manual its tramsmit 0.5w to 1.0w. I dont see nothing ilegal in the FCC part 90
@@epineir I'm new to amateur radio so don't know if I'm right... maybe because the radio is capable of transmitting on amateur frequencies is the reason it isn't legal to use with FRS.
The reason they can't be legally used as FRS radios is it doesn't have a Locked PLL. And, from what I've read, this radio has too much spurious emissions to pass FCC tests, so is not legal in the U.S. even for licensed amateur operators to use.
Im new to radio handhelds. Today i was in a desert safari but couldn't turn it to their channel. They used channel 9 with the six digits but my 9 channel has different six digits. I don't really know how to change those digits? What are those digits btw? Thanks in advance
@@Iridium242 Ham radio channel can be applied using program, but It can be illegal without a ham license If there is an amateur radio repeater nearby, you can talk far away.
It will but only the frequencies you have programmed in, it wont just scan up and down a band. You also need to enable the scan mode (Which is number 8 in the menu) via the software to enable scanning. Once its enabled, you hit the menu button, get it to menu 8 and hit the orange button on the side to scan all your programmed frequencies.

After watching another video with a teardown, I estimated the uncoiled length of the coil-antenna in there to be about 15 inches.
this could be a handy backup radio to grab in case your main handheld craps out. I don't yet have my license but I have a Baofeng UV-5RV2+

I bought a couple of this device and every day love them more and more😍🌞🌎👍
That would be a nice little extreme emergency radio!
I use the lanyard, mainly because the radio is so small it’s difficult to find, the coloured lanyard helps
That's a cool little radio. I actually repaired the Yaesu radios years ago. 😎
I can hear satcom guys even without any additional devices
It will be cool to see you adapt the antenna.
Yeah I am going to keep it stock for a while, then when I get the nerve up, I will do the "surgery" :) It really cant be too hard.
Great, another radio I can buy for my collection. LOL Good review as always.
Great review as usual! This radio is a great emergency backup radio! looks like I will be buying yet another HT......
Wow, thought my little uv3r was a little ht. Yep, it could have it's uses. Thanks
If I get 2 of these would it be a good option for 2 way communication?
Im glad you figured it out! Its a nice compact unit for not alot of money! Im glad it worked well for the parade! Enjoy your night my Friend!
you too!
What is the Range of this walkie talkie
wow cool little radio
I am going to buy it
You said that it wasn’t good for beginners. Can you suggest a baofeng that is?
The new version of the UV5R, more power and more bands.
Can this be used as a walkie-talkie or do you have to be licensed for that?
You would have to program the right frequencies in it (FRS) to use it without a lic

A whole lot depends on line of sight, how densely populated the area is, and how high up you are while transmitting.
