It's worth mentioning that the U.S. abolished slavery before any African king or oba or mansa abolished it in their realms. Sadly slavery continues to exist in parts of Africa and throughout the world in the form of human (sex) trafficking, forced labor (concentration camps), bonded labor (to repay debts). To think, it wasn't all that long ago that most of the world thought of this evil institution as part and parcel, so to say, of the natural order of things.

I love everyone, and of course the original federalists and fighters for freedom of slaves and liberality for all. Now let's all get together and free ourselves from the chains of slavery whatever they may be. I look forward to freeing myself from the forces that inhibit the act of love to MLB, but not the feeling and greatness of our love with each other and dually towards each other. I love all of you, and can't wait to enjoy a brand new era in the American Adventure, which as Benjamin Franklin has said will continue for a long long time.

I give more weight to the soldiers that fought and died for their freedom over the recipients of that freedom. Juneteenth should celebrate the soldiers sacrifice as well as black freedom. A holiday has to be inclusive for all Americans to be valued. Culmination means "the highest or climactic point of something, especially as attained after a long time". The Juneteenth Emancipation Notice, is that culmination of the civil war. I call Juneteenth "Civil War Day". The other issue, even though slaves were now free, they were not U.S. citizens, but illegal aliens. Only their children born after July 9, 1968, after 14th Amendment was ratified, were automatically U.S. citizens. Former slaves could have become U.S. citizens if they became naturalized citizens, but they did not go through any process to become U.S. citizens, so their status remained as illegal aliens and could not vote. I believe blacks that became soldiers (like the Buffalo Soldiers) were naturalized U.S. citizens.

    Jesus Christ saves from sin.
    Romans 3: 23
    For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
    Hebrews 9: 27
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
    Isaiah 64: 6
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
    Revelation 21: 8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
    Romans 5: 8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
    John 3: 16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
    John 14: 6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
    Romans 10: 9-10.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
    Jesus said John 5: 24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
    1John 5: 10-13
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God..
    Ephesians 2: 8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
    Romans 8: 1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
    1 Corinthians 15: 3-4
    For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
    2 Corinthians 5: 21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

People are closing the places where they work in their businesses, not to celebrate but because they know they are in danger because of the way they are used to celebrating that date in the streets.

¿Qué tiene que ver la libertad con el grafiti y el vandalismo al que están acostumbrados cada vez que celebran esa fecha?

That proclamation listed those States by name and included Texas. The essentially meaningless military order being celebrated as ending slavery in Texas was issued six months later on June 19, 1865.

@Kevin Kincaid My typo aside, you seem to be saying, "The Emancipation Proclamation was meaningless since it only ended slavery in Confederate States and then only symbolically because none of those States were under Union military control." There's an argument to be made for that view but then one has to consider that almost a full year passed before President Johnson declared in April of 1866 that the insurrection was over in all the former Confederate States - EXCEPT Texas. The insurrection in Texas didn't end and Texas wasn't under Union military control until late August of 1866.

Yet, the nice young man, heading a Afro-American chamber of commerce in Waco, stabbed me when he said the holiday commemorates when all people became equal. Are women not people?!?! I reach out to the quote of Justice Thurgood Marshall that the original Constitution did not include him (a free Afro-American). You could add a note that CBS network realizes the young man's comment was not accurate and that the network recognizes women of every "color" STILL could not vote or live equally as men. (I rant some here but for the sake of teaching!) In 1970, my newly-single parent mother had to fight for credit so she buy clothes for us to attend school. Although my father's administrative career allowed him to die in his million dollar home leave nothing to his children, my computer operator mother left half her life savings in a trust for me to survive my disabilities. Even my dad's 2nd wife left me her entire life insurance policy. (Still living and married the 3rd time, dad's widow doesn't communicate with us stepchildren of her 2nd marriage).

If enough women of color and enough women of white descent grow to a place together, maybe we can eventually have a movement together to establish something in recognition.

Happy Juneteenth to American Descendants of Chattel Slavery. Just curious, CBS why didn’t you use the official Juneteenth flag in the segment intro? It’s a symbolic red, white and blue flag, not red black green yellow.
