I was super excited when I saw her red chair in the background at the beginning of the video. I have a gray chair exactly like that! Then I saw the rest of the video and I loved her 3rd grade art and I loved the way she redrew them. The picture of the flower the bird and the worms was my favorite!
I love the self portrait. The coloring is so clean and nice with such flat color. I really like the one with the flower because I fell like it tells a story. All of them are awesome but those 2 are my favorite.😊❤
I was in 3rd grade 30 years ago and I remember in the elementary school art classroom the teacher had huge books of wallpaper samples and we would go through and tear out the pages we liked to use in a collage. That must have been a pretty common assignment for that age group! Sadly I don’t think I kept any of my art projects from way back then to cringe at how bad/weird they were!

The first drawing you made( in the video ) it reminded me of spring. The trees are still waking up from their winter slumber. And birds are a common sign of spring. Idk, the white space made me think of snow.

The wallpaper in art class had to be a 90’s/early 2000’s thing bc I remember a few of my elementary art school teachers having these portfolios of wallpaper samples that we used for art projects😂. I remember specifically using a multi-pink sample for a dress on a self portrait and a puffy cloud on a blue background for the sky.

In primary school we didn't really have art as a specific class. Our school was tiny so we had multiple years in the one class and only one class teacher except for music and french. I looked up what third grade is equivalent to in the UK to try to work out what art would have been like then for me. Apparently its age 8-9 which means that is year 4 here. Which is tricky really. We've got lots of my art from before school where I wrote my name and age on, but by the age of 8 I was a bit past doing that. Year 4 would have put me in Prep 1 (with years 3&4 together, by the time I was in year 6, there were only the 2 of us, and prep was just one class with years 3-6 in!) and I remember that we did work on the Hindu religion whilst I was in that room as my class room and we had this lady come in to teach us how to do silk painting and we all worked together to create a Sari. So I have a tile I carved to be part of the design, but none of the final project as it was done as a whole class. She also taught us about their wedding traditions and she showed us how to use Henna to do Mehndi. And we went to the Divali celebrations in Leicester which was such a wonderful experience - I loved it! So yeah, art for that year would have been related to that I think. Lots of printing ink designs to get the style right before doing it on fabric. Might have a small fabric sample of it too somewhere, but not sure exactly. Then for the seasonal holidays we'd do artwork for those too every year. So an Easter card for Easter, Mother's Day card for Mother's day, Christmas colourings from stamps (they had some christmas stamps which we'd just stamp on stuff then colour in) and other crafts like making paper chains - those were the whole of the last week of term. No lessons, just arts and crafts! And then we'd always create a calendar image and stick one of those little calendars on the bottom for all the months. And they all just went away in storage and were never used or even displayed. Most of the art I did, I did at home on my own and it was just colouring in colouring books. Or was at my childminder's house in the holidays and then it would be all sorts of things like potato printing, or making pictures out of stickers - just long stickers about 1" wide at most. And they were on the roll end to end rather than widest sides together as is normal now. The options were plain white or almost neon pink. I used those at one point to make a mouldy sandwich factory. The purpose of the mouldy sandwich factory was to infect all adults and keep them infected with a mind control mould which kept them going to work. Because at that point, the only people I saw buying preprepared sandwiches (the ones cut into triangles, not any other style) were office workers or other adults wearing work uniforms. So my thought process was that it was how society was kept working - they can't prepare their food at home if they are working and they'll always be working if they keep eating the mouldy sandwiches! But the thing is that the adults could never see the mould and know to avoid it, only the kids could see it. So the adults would just think they were tasty sandwiches. And they'd become brainwashed and start loving work at the expense of everything else, but it basically turned them into zombies and it wouldn't look like they were enjoying themselves to anyone (kids) not infected with the mould. As an adult I can see that the mould is just capitalism, but I think it was a pretty astute thing to come up with as a little kid.
