cont--whereas the opening example of the Investigations is in medias res, dealing with an example of how things can be used (the builders and their blocks).
Great video! It makes me feel slightly better about my nagging. I hope your idea of a book group idea gets takers. Would it maybe make sense to have a conference on Skype or a Google+ hangout or even Stickam? It just might be interesting to get together in real time as to discuss it, if that's at all possible. To get a fast GENERAL take on the book, your viewers might want to take a look at watch?v=dFs9WO2B8uI...BUT there is so much more in the book than in the video, as you point out.
Corey: I come late to this video. I agree with your contextual analysis here. I would be interested in your thoughts on how the unconscious - particularly the shadow concept - in Jungian thought. Would love to have McGilchrist speak to this larger aspect of the brain, psyche, etc.
Hey Professor Anton, how do you think these ideas relate to the intent, purpose, and meaning of 'design' in our world? I don't mean like 'graphic design' or anything like that, as I trust you know, the idea of design is a much broader topic than something as arbitrary as designing a skateboard company logo or even 'designing a universe' (if that is even possible). I mean 'design' in the sense of a system of objects in order.. Much like your Form / Information videos! Baudrillard-ian design!
very inspiring comments on McGiIlchrist. I wonder if Prof Anton (not not) knows the lecture 'Stroke of Insight in Silent Euphoria' on youtube where an american neurologist tells about her time with left hemispehere damage, this confirms what is told in the video
too fun to discover you! Was a philosophy major and religion minor ohh so long ago and have read Breakdown of Bicameral Mind and the beginning of McGilchrisst's book (loaned it to someone to prepare for a class and haven't seen it again). From just what I read though I was intrigued by the implications for a society dominated by the left hemisphere. Will enjoy looking or listening to more of your work-l
I wonder how illuminating it would be to consider Wittgenstein's early and later philosophy against this backdrop of left and right hemispheric thinking. The Tractatus era appears very left-led in its bounding/fomalisation of facts vs nonsense, whereas Philosophical Investigations is concerned with context, metaphor, and linguistic diversity. It's interesting you say in the left hemisphere 'the world is made' given the opening lines of the Tractatus are very much to do with world-building,--cont
Aping Mankind: Neoromania, Darwinitis and the Misrepresentation of Humanity by Raymond Tallis says that McGilchrist's thesis 'represents Neuromania at its most extreme.'
fascinating topic and great review. thank you for your time. i realize this was posted a year ago but would have been interested in a study group or forum on the work. absolutely begs for further inquiry into epilepsy and other neurological conditions concurrent to all forms of perception and psychic ability. for example, all the Pharaohs, Caesars (Czars) Emperors and Monarchies (and high clergy) of the planet have some form of genetic anomaly. they also believe they're the ones appointed to govern us, the demigods as such, and therefore the genetically superior rulers over the masses. perhaps the reason they rule is because they basically "out wit" the rest of us - and sadly for us it's being done for their own benefit. fascinating to consider.
@2bsirius @professoranton many thanks
I hope that's not too vague! Thanks for all of the awesome knowledge Prof.! I LOVE this channel.
I love M.C.Eschers self-drawing hands on the back wall. Something mentioned often mentioned in the book. Nice little integration for you there ;)

would the left hemisphere be the location of "ego", and the right hemisphere be the location of the "id"?
Wow. im so glad i found this channel :)
Where do I go to participate in the book club / discussion group you said you would create?

i'd like to hear your take on thunderfoot's latest debate at the reason rally with eric hovind. "Atheists absolutely deny absolutes".

Lynn Barnett Sparks Thanks. Best to you.
