This is what Blizzard is known for. Their over the top exquisite cinematics. As a long time WoW player, this is how most of us got sucked in lol. That last freeze frame at the end of the cinematic is a homage to Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. The very first game that started this 20 year journey. It's not hard to start an account in 2024. You can do it! lol

I would argue the final frames are a nod to warcraft III's splash art for loadscreens... but then again.. I guess they were aiming for a nostalgia boost in a new light... and BOY did it work.
And then there is Dragonflight cinematic...

@@ChiefPlays322 I second the Lich King. Some backstory is before World of Warcraft there was this RTS game called Warcraft 1, 2, and 3. (WC for short) In 3, you get the story leading up to the events in Wrath (WotLK fort short) to the cinematic we see. WC has a lot of the history in it, but I don't recommend going back to 1 or 2 because they can be jenky--though if you're a purist, visit them and prepare for old school mechanics and ancient gameplay. :D:D:D Good and bad guy would traditionally be up for interpretation. There's players in both factions. In this expansion though, Sylvanas (the undead elf leading the horde) is absolutely the bad guy. Lots of players hated being forced into doing terrible things. The voice acting and music and sound design always knocks it out of the park on Blizzard cinematics. There's usually at least a few chills inducing moments.
I hope this video finds it's way to WoW youtube, I'm worried YT will lose it in the shuffle because the channel size is small. Fingers crossed my friend.
I understand the feeling that it might be overwhelming. But it's not really that bad. It's pretty easy to compartmentalize. Think of it like tolkien or something. Just because you haven't read the hobbit or the Silmarillion doesn't mean you can't enjoy LOTR for what it is in the moment.

as someone who fell in love with Azeroth and WoW as a whole, you should come try it in a few months with the release of the new expansion, as RIGHT NOW the New Player Experience is kinda terrible... Holly Longdale the current boss of the Dev Team has stated as much and that they intend to fix it. but with the new expansion, first time players will be sent to Dragonflight at level 10 and from there you can ingest all the content WoW has to offer, to which i recommend when you get to max level to take your time and just explore and take in the sights, approach endgame at your own pace, regardless of what some will say.
Fourteen year player here. Blizzard and WoW have had their ups and downs so each player has a different opinion. Exile's Reach is nice and gets you up to speed on your character mechanics, but it doesn't tell so much the story behind each faction or the history. A quick history is out there in a 15 minute YT video for the history somewhere (tongue in cheek), but the quick quick version is that orcs were sent through a portal into Azeroth where they began invading in human lands. The various nations united against them and various events up and down happened with sacking cities and such. Finally the remaining Horde crossed to form a city and an alliance of their own called the Horde. The Alliance and the Horde have had a LOT of up and down faction wars/treaties/wars/treaties, and such, but in the cinematic, Sylvanas is War Chief and after committing a war crime, the Alliance got up in arms and attacked her home city to get at her. The expansion this references is Battle for Azeroth, which is (if you count the base game) the 8th expac. One way to catch up on history is the books, and the person that recommended the Flying Buttress gave a really good suggestion there.
The current expac is a love/hate for people, and the one before alienated a lot of players--many disown its existence but it's not that bad. Story's a bit whacked though and I hate what they did with my main lady The Dark Lady who was in the cinematic in the plot--but the game play has some good questing so there is redemption.
The WoW community are very welcoming and you can get some folks to help you start up. In fact we just helped Phil H. get into the game and are supporting him so don't be afraid to start. Your first decision will be which faction you want. I have favorite races in both so can't help there.

I'm definitely finding that everyone seems to be super friendly and welcoming so far, it does a lot to ease the intimidation factor of it all lol! I've got a couple of people ready and waiting to hold my hand through the initial process of getting going so that's a big relief too 😁

@@ChiefPlays322 In game there are a few new player servers--which are not good if you have established friends on another server. There are various game play styles. One is just plain PvE where you (and your party) go around questing, running dungeons, and such. Another of course is PvP and those folks can be hardcore. I do not PvP because my hand/eye coord sucks. Then there's the RP people who mainly use 3 servers to create backstories and something similar to D&D but with their characters. I've seen some of this because I'm on on of the three servers (ED) but I don't RP. There ARE caveats to Moonguard and a certain section of the map in Alliance territory called Goldshire that can get ERP and on Wyrm's Rest a similar thing happens on the Horde's side in a city called Silvermoon. Emerald Dream (mine, hence ED) is tamer so far. I just joined though with Phil's crew so.... On EACH server though are Guides. These people volunteered to have a separate chat system in the chat window where new players can ask questions and get seasoned veterans to answer so they get a chance to not feel so overwhelmed. Because YES WoW can feel overwhelming--even I don't know all the Lore but it doesn't help that they retcon a lot between books, comics, expacs and other media/material.
I'm not sure if you're interested in this, but if you decide to Twitch stream, or YT stream or both, you can get some folks here in chat help you as you go as well. It's hard I know for juggling reading chat and playing--one reason I'm not good at streaming and so just watch folks stream. :)
On of the biggest things to learn is that there are abbreviations everywhere. Void Elf (VE) Blood Elf (BE) Shadow Priest (SP) Warlock (WL)... if you get confused in them, just ask. Folks are friendly enough to help. Though reading Trade hat can be equal to reading the larger YTer's comments section. Take care there. :)

Give it a try if you want. If it’s story you’re interested in though, I’d give warcraft3 a shot. Different game same world but that game is why wow is even a thing imo

I know people like to recommend WOW Classic, but the retail version fixed a lot of issues that make the game less confusing to play.
I've been playing since the original (the time Classic has recreated), I even jumped back into Classic when they brought it back. It was a nice jaunt down memory lane, but I would not recommend it for new players.

Btw There aint a real "good faction" each faction as its share of good and bad deeds, Although i play "FOR THE HORDE!".
if you ever feel like learning the lore i would suggeste a youtuber named "Flying Buttress" amazing videos and funny too. i recommend starting with the "Rising of the Horde - Supercut"

I've been playing for 16 years. The orc is Varek Saurfang, the War Chief of the Horde. The hunter elf is Sylvanas, who was the leader of the Horde at that time. Sylvanas is the "Banshee Queen" who has developed some serious power at the time of this cinematic. The wolf is the King of Gilneas, Genn Greymane. He's the advisor to the young king, Anduin Wrynn, who is King of Stormwind and leader of the Alliance. He just became king, he's about 19 at this point. He's trained as a priest and that light spell was a healer's spell. As for good guys and bad guys, I honestly don't think either are, there are good and bad on both sides and you can play both sides and every type of character you saw in the cinematic.
The entire saga is long, having started in2004 for World of Warcraft and before that was Orcs and Humans and Warcraft so there's a lot of lore and things to explore. Right now, there's a catch up mechanic going on in a special "Timerunner" area. You can make a Timerunner character, get up to level 70 really pretty quickly, and those characters will be able to go into the Retail game after Timerunning is over in August. This is only in one area, Pandaria, and it's a good way to learn how the play goes and get some good armor and some mounts. For lore, you can hit people like Nobbel87 here on UA-cam and he's got a LOT of videos about what the game is, storywise.
Want to know what is coming up in August for the next expansion: go check out the World Within Cinematic trailer. The king you saw in that Battle for Azeroth video, Anduin, is the main character in that cinematic and there's quite a change.
Bruh never playing WoW and reacting to the BFA cinematic is like saying you wanna go out for a nice big hearty burger and going to white castle lol, BC or Wrath have the best imo.
There is two main factions and both look for the best for each and like always there is bad ppl in each faction so is not like horde is bad or alliance is bad, you just choose who you like and give it a try, in my case i'm "For The Horde". i stop playing the game since what is left is just a empty shell of what it used to be Blizzard but i wont deny that the cinematics in any blizzard game are the best, give it a try maybe you would enjoy it but for the old guys who started playing this game at its beginnings, most of us we left.
In fairness, things are looking more optimistic for War Within. and Pandaria remix coming soon sounds really fun. It's nice to see the WoW team experimenting again.

Unfortunately the cinematic has nothing much to do with the 8th expansion, just more of the leftovers from the 7th expansion fourth season and pre-exp event and Sylvanas's arc in the 9th expansion, the Shadowlands. The Battle of Azeroth is more like the filler expansion, introducing new races and background lore and stuff.
We are now four months away from the 11th expansion where Blizzard explained that they are getting to come together lore-wise and explain wtf is going on, including all bits from all previous expansions. Also the next three expansions gonna be much shorter than the usual 2-year-long expansion concept.

WoW isn’t even that amazing. The cinematic movies are okay, but in-game graphics are cheesy and super cartoony. The story isn’t even that great. Seriously.
If you want a game with better storytelling, graphics, lore, and evergreen content, go play Final Fantasy XIV. It’s WAY better than, plus you can play all of the class roles on ONE character and freely switch between them. There’s also tons of side content, and it adds the the game’s story and lore.
With WoW, you are locked into one class on one character. Plus WoW makes you grind gameplay so hard it isn’t even fun.
FFXIV cinematic movies are also worth watching!
