I felt the same as so many of you here. Lived in Waimanalo, and Hilo and their music embodied the aloha spirit that embraced me as soon as I arrived. Hawaii is still such a part of me so many years later.
I [just google] and my wife have known the one and only "OLOMANA" for many years (since the '70s) - we all were young once - this shows awesome in Full Screen. Pili Aloha (brotherly love (best/beloved - friend/ "bother" forever) hovers over Jerry Santos & the late {died in 1982} Robert Beaumont "with his Fu Manchu". Aloha between those who struggle for the success of their dreams is the greatest of all ~ circa 1973 ~ {Was a hard time for many Americans.}
Feel so fortunate to have seen them together in the early years. Robert had such long hair. And Jerry had hair! Ala Moana Lounge...Was it called Paradise Lounge? So much Aloha in that room. Never know when this beautiful song will draw me in feeling the Aloha and get choked up fo da kine old time daze.
I lived in Ewa Beach. I went to Ilima intermediate and James Campbell HS in the ‘70’s. Good times and a great time to live the Hawaii country life. All gone now. Sad face.
Conrad "NICK" Thomas - I, for so long, and some years later my wife, have known of and appreciated "OLOMANA" for many, many years. The Aloha / love of Jerry Santos & Robert Beaumont are legend... Today many years after Bobby's death, Jerry is honored among Hawaii's Great Musicians & Story Tellers... www.olomanamusic.com/about_js.html. www.ConradNickThomas.com. Robert Beaumont died on March 15, 1982 of a drug overdose, possibly cocaine, but not sure on the drug involved. Source(s): memory...I remember "the ides of March" and know it was 1982 as I was living in Hawaii at the time, working at a local television station and recall walking past the directors' booth and seeing multiple stock shots of Robert and Olomana on the wall of monitors. I hadn't heard the news and was so happy because I thought the station must be doing a special on Olomana. Then I learned the tragic truth. His untimely passing is still sad, but Robert certainly lives on in spirit and his music. 201 DonnaW's avatarDonnaW6 years agoReport Found official source for date of death, which was March 15, 1982. Esta música es muy bella y melancólica. Al escucharla dan ganas de botar todo e irse a vivir a una aldea en una isla de la polinesia.
