Marvin Sapp came through for his first-ever VladTV interview, and he started off by speaking about growing up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which he said was very Republican. Marvin went on to speak about living with a single mother at a young age, and he admitted that while he was connected to the church, he was also getting into trouble. When it comes to singing, Marvin explained that his father was a singer, and he sang his first solo in church when he was just 4 years old. Marvin then explained that at 10, he made a commitment to sing gospel music, which he said is the only thing he’s ever sung. From there, Marvin detailed how he started being more rebellious, which led to him being exposed to various drugs, including Lean. Throughout this time, Marvin was still involved in church, including directing the choir, and he went on to speak about having a change of heart at 18. Speaking about his parents, Marvin explained that his mother was a strict disciplinarian, who was raising four boys in the hood, and Marvin explained that her only goal was keeping her sons from being felons. Marvin added that his mother was successful in her goal, and he went on to speak about going to college.

Love this interview. Love to hear gentlemen like Mr. Sapp being open and honest. It's funny...I went to FAMU between 2003-2008 and hood Florida dudes BLASTED never would have made it all the time around school when it came out. That song really touched a lot of souls.

I love Bishop Marv! He started out with Fred Hammond in the Commissioned group and branched off into other areas. Most people don't get how people with strong callings on their life are HIGHLY anointed and come from broken places/families, but God's purpose will always supercede their desires.

Being in the church doesn't mean you don't sin, or experiment with drugs and alcohol..actually the more strict the upbringing the greater the likelihood that these things will happen...it doesn't make the person a bad person..🤷🏾♀️

That's true. I'm from the heart of the Bible Belt and spent my whole youth in church. Some of the purest hearted church people I know have had their share of demons. I agree that it doesn't make you a bad person...unless you're being hypocritically judgmental towards others while doing the absolute most dirt in your own life. I think that a lifetime of witnessing so much of the latter is why so many millennials have abandoned church and/or religion. However, if one is in church and sinning, but humble and willing to pay forward the grace that one desires, then I think that an issue with alcohol or drugs doesn't disqualify one from doing the Lord's work.
