    If the decrease in ATP after using the device was harmful to the muscles, then we would not be able to go to the gym to lift a lot of weight and do a lot of sets. I don't think it's important to decrease ATP after using the device, because if there were muscle contractions of course ATP will decrease and then resynthesize.

  • @NA._
    @NA._ Рік тому +160

    Hi. I think you neglected the reason WHY ATP is reduced with EMS, and this is important because not all EMS is the same. The reason ATP is depleted with EMS is because the muscles are USING it when contracting. IF the stimulation is too strong (causing your muscles to twitch), your muscles are using al lot of ATP, which takes a longer time to be restored. However, EMS is not always that strong. The PureLift, (the device from the face gym you visited), has never caused my facial muscles to twitch and the manufacturer, The Recovery Lab, has a lot of information on their EMS, and why theirs increase ATP. As you noted, ATP does replenish itself continously. The key is the exertion to the facial muscles, or put differently, the aount of ATP that the device causes your muscles to use. If not overstimulated, less ATP is used, and since ATP can be increased through electrical stimulation, it is possible to increase ATP with EMS. The amount of ATP that can be stored is also limited, so increasing the skin's ability to produce ATP over time through electrical stimulation is also an important consideration. Per your battery analogy, the battery's capacity is limited. Increasing the batteries capacity to quickly charge is another consideration. The temporary use of the battery's energy isn't the only thing to think about. In the end, devices such as electrical stimulation (EMS AND microcurrent) and Red Light Therapy, aim to increase the skin's metabolism and function to act like younger skin. Microcurrent manufacturers love to mention ATP reduction, while never producing studies that show if A) all EMS devices reduce ATP just because they reach the muscles and B) that the ATP reduction is a long term deficiency.

      I appreciate this! I will look in to the Recovery Lab-and I’ll definitely follow up on the nuances of EMS (I agree they are not all the same).
      I also agree that it’s much more complex than I outlined….a challenging subject to cover in one UA-cam video.
      You’ve given me inspo to dive in even farther, thank you! 💜

      I don't understand much in chemistry and the way our bodies work. However your comment made me think. If something is beeing used up our body is supposed to start actively start working on rebuild it. Just like microneedling, we damage the skin and our body throwing all the energy to fix it. On the other hand if we don't do anything it's just age and gets droppy.

      @NA thank you for this explanation! I’ve seen other videos claiming that EMS increases ATP, so your explanation is helpful. So I can’t help but wonder: if ATP is being used because the muscles are being stimulated (as would happen with regular exercise), is it known whether ATP levels actually *increase* after a certain amount of recovery? Or are we just constantly depleting our ATP if we work out the face and body too hard? Does is never return to its homeostasis? Or is there the possibility that it does increase over time, with recovery? And then, if ATP is always used when a muscle is stimulated, wouldn’t even lower levels of stimulation ALSO use (deplete) ATP but maybe just at a lower amount? I am full of questions LOL. Thanks for the informative reply!

    • @jenniferjames346
      @jenniferjames346 Рік тому +18

      I agree with you. All skeletal muscles use up ATP when stimulated through use of them. I think the trick is that you have to eat a healthy diet and you need to add rest days, just like you do with exercising all of your other muscles. Your body will rebuild its ATP stores using up glucose from food and oxygen. I think you can overuse the device and fatigue your muscles, but everything in moderation.

    • @kaychachar9130
      @kaychachar9130 Рік тому +22

      Yes you are right. Also ATP is not something that becomes deficient over time. If you notice the people who go to gym and excersise are healthier than the ones that don’t. With time their body comes into sync with the supply and demand of nutrients required to achieve the more toned body. The depletion theory about ATP is a bit misleading by the companies.

    I had this device for 3 weeks now. I use it 2-3 times a week (on the lowest setting for now) I had fine lines on my forehead for forever and they are gone since I started using this (I had no problem using it on my forehead, I'd even say it's my favorite area to use it on). Hydration is not an issue, I have a pretty solid skincare routine, so I'm sure it's not the gel. Overall, my face is looking more 'sculpted' or 'snatched' for lack of a better word since I started to use it, so I definitely love it.

    This by far is my favorite device and I have seen so much lift from it. EMS has been around forever and when I went to esthetician school we treated with it and learned all about it. It’s definitely for the older gals. It’s a keeper and blows all the other devices I have out of the water. Love it. You probably won’t notice anything unless you need it. Like I said it’s not for the under 50 crowd.

      I’m under 50. I’ve stumbled on this device bc I’ve been experiencing weak neck muscle issues. I am strength training my shoulder, neck, back area, but am looking into this to stimulate/massage my neck + back muscles. I’m confused/curious why you say it’s not for those under 50, when our muscles are still needing attention as we age under 50.

    Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is a molecule that serves as the primary energy carrier in cells. However, it’s not directly related to EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) facial devices. EMS devices work by delivering low-level electrical currents to stimulate facial muscles, which can lead to improvements in muscle tone and facial contouring.
    While ATP is essential for cellular energy metabolism, its levels in the skin are not typically influenced by EMS facial devices. EMS devices primarily target muscle stimulation rather than altering cellular energy metabolism.

    Thanks for another informative video, Penny. In the last couple of years my face and neck more and more resemble a shar pei despite everything I have done to take care of them. I’m kind of kidding here - but kind of not. I was using the NEWA but stopped about a year ago because I didn’t really see a difference. I’ve been interested in EMS but I think it would be wiser to leave it at my age (71) . I’d love it if there was something that really worked for my skin at my age to take away the wrinkles and laxity but I think the only thing now is either surgical or maybe an ablative full face CO2. If we’d only had all these wonderful things when I was younger.❤️

    I heard the USA has to call it EMS but it’s called something different in Europe. Whatever it is it’s not allowed in the US. I personally would use it if I was in my late 60’s or early 70’s but I’m not destroying anything in my 40’s! Someone just commented that MC does the same thing and I’ve never heard that or experienced it. I’ve never heard of fat loss or anyones skin becoming more “droopy” the next day or two after using MC. Thanks so much for the videos! 💖

    Great detailed relatable education. Yes, so many companies offer marketing“fudge”. Now I wonder about all this. I do have the LUMO and love the EMS. It also has red light at the same time which is supposed to boost ATP so hopefully offsets the initial loss of ATP from EMS? I don’t rely on the red light from the LUMO. I use a RLT mask most days of the week. But - Have I sucked into the hope of these devices? I have very few wrinkles and elasticity looks quite good for 64 yo, (except the jowl area. Keep hoping that will improve but know that hope is not science based). So part of me thinks…yeah..keep going with this routine. If ATP rebounds, that’s a good thing. It’s not permanently lost.

    Thank you for this very informative video! There’s a lot of hype out there with these devices and I’ve been searching for a more in depth and critical (as in objective) look at it. I also noticed some red flags on their site. There are a lot of videos out there saying EMS does increase ATP so I appreciate the studies you showed. It was also something I was wondering about. I can’t help but wonder, if this is meant to stimulate facial contractions as in exercise, why not just do targeted facial exercises? What’s the difference? Is there a benefit to a device that exercise would not provide?

    Love your videos very informative and real specially when it comes to KBeauty because I believe they are in another level when it comes to the beauty industry from skincare to at home devices , ATP proven to be reproduced after EMS just like when we exercise our body muscles , the only thing I would say is if you have facial fat loss in certain areas not to use it there or as often also make sure to adjust it on the lowest up setting not the slim or body mode … or simply to replace it with micro current devices … I use it on the lowest up setting once or twice a week on my jaws definitely saw a difference … any updates dear?

    I love how you use analogies. They are very helpful. I bought this device and it hurts my teeth. I may try some dental gauze next time. However, I am wondering if I should just stick to microcurrent, RF, microneedling and LED. Within the last year (I am 47), I developed jowls and a turkey neck. It has aged me 10+ years, and I am super depressed. In your chart, I see you dont even have EMS listed. For sagging jawline you list RF, microcurrent, microneedling and LED. I wish I could return my device but it said on the sides where the tape was that once the tape is broke it cannot be returned :-( I would rather put my money towards a quality RF device. Currently I am using the mini Hifu from LoveJoy off of amazon. Its a combo device with RF, HIFU and EMS.

    Thank you! Great information, I’ve noticed some companies use EMS and microcurrent interchangeably which is super confusing. Trophyskin BrightenMD is a customization choice in the fabfitfun fall box. I already use Nuface for microcurrent but thought it might be good to have a multifunctional device for travel. I sent Trophyskin a message asking if the device uses microcurrent or EMS, they said essentially they are the same but that the device uses EMS. Is using an EMS noticeably different than microcurrent? Can you actually feel and see the muscle contracting?
    I opted for Tripollar Rose because it didn’t have ELV and it was less expensive because possibly decreasing ADP doesn’t seem worth it to me.

    Thanks for this, Penn! Gonna pass on the device,but appreciate knowing that there’s another conductive gel that can be left on As skin care. I have been using the J Kosmmune spray toner forever to add a bit of betaglucan hydration to my microcurrent routine. So sad that The company seems to have folded.I have discovered the NuFace Hydrating Aqua gel and rehydrating it as needed, Love the push down dispenser!

    Also...in addition to NA....when a muscle is stimulated to the point that the cell needs more atp...the producers of atp...the mitochondria...can replicate and create more of themselves to the point that over time you have more producers of ATP...therefore more end product of atp. This is what all exercise does. However...the caveat is...muscle contraction creates more dynamic wrinkles.

    Thank you for this! I’m curious about your thoughts on the claims that strengthening facial muscles with EMS and micro current DON’T help with sagging skin but instead just build muscle which just makes the face more angular. I used micro current regularly for 4 years and really saw no benefit to my skin, it really just seemed to make my thin angular face more thin and angular!…and so this theory makes sense with my experience…what do you think?

    Thank you so much for this informative video of yours. I was so tempted to buy all medicube devices for quite some time now since it keeps on showing up as ads and right now, they have the primrose colored devices but then, I stumbled with your video. I'm gonna really think it over then as I'm only in early 30s and don't want to lose ATP earlier than it supposed to be and also, I already have foreo bear to help my bell's palsy residue in my face and helps me whenever I get flare ups as well so, I'll stick to it for now then. Have you tried the medicube air shot and booster h devices? Is it worth it? Yay or nah? Thank you once again.

    I like the outcome of my 65 year old skin with EMS devices than just Microcurrent and I’ve been trying to debate with online articles if in fact EMS depletes ATP.. Very confusing some some say yes it does deplete whiles others states no it does not deplete and it can increase our ATP.. Skin studies has always fascinated me that is why I became an Esthetician.. My question is if EMS does deplete our ATP and Microcurrent increases our ATP like the Pico toner.. Why can’t we just use the the two devices if the outcome with EMS looks and works faster than Microcurrent?? I could use my Pico Toner to increase the ATP or my Myolift 600.. Would this method of using both devices as a cocktail work out so that we don’t have to worry so much about depleting our ATP with our EMS devices??

    Ok, I have this device. I have used it twice and I have it on the lowest setting possible. It makes me twitch like crazy! Sometimes convulsions of my arm when I use it on my neck. I wouldn't say it hurts but it doesn't always feel right. Do I just need to build up my muscles, or am I using it wrong? I do use the gel they sell.

    Truth Treatment device has both modes: microcurrent and EMS. It is VERY powerful. When I use it on my chin-neck, my shoulder is twitching. Device is not expensive and battery lasts for a long time. No need to buy a separate gadget just for EMS. Also, EMS doesn't do anything extra comparing to the results of microccurrent alone, you don't really need it, unless you like your face twitching like crazy. Neither microcurrent nor EMS can lift jowls.

      I’ve just purchased the Truth Treatment one and still waiting on delivery, I’d been on the fence for so long trying to decide whether it’s worth it or not to purchase the Nuface as so many here on UA-cam that have the Nuface and do reviews on that device are usually sponsored videos and they were given the Nuface to try and review, I’m always sceptical when that happens, whether to believe them or not, that’s mainly why I went with the TT one, most of the ones I follow on UA-cam have all got the Nuface and I could only find one that reviewed the truth treatment device and she did an in-depth review of it which sold me on it, in your honest opinion, have you noticed a difference in your skin since using your truth treatment device, I’m 62 years young but don’t have much in the way of sagging jowls or neck, I mainly purchased it for those lines around my mouth area that come from down the nose, I can’t remember what they’re called, nasial folds or something like that. Would love to know your thoughts. ♥️♥️🇦🇺

    Hello, thank you so much for this information! Now, I have a question: do you know if that the same modality as the « EMS » (or « DMA » as they call it here in Europe) of the TriPollar Stop Vx? Using the device in that mode is not comfortable, but I do it because I think it is a « bonus », but if it’s not even that good… maybe I shouldn’t bother? (And had I known, I could have saved some money by buying the version with the same RF, but no DMA…)
