  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) biologists are using the latest technology to better understand mountain lion numbers on Colorado's Western Slope. This long-term research project began in Middle Park in 2021, and it will continue throughout western Colorado over the next 10 years. This video provides an intimate look into this ambitious conservation effort to better understand these large, elusive cats.

That last shot in the video of the cat jumping out of the tree is epic. Glad I was not standing underneath it when that happened. Really cool project. Thanks for posting.

You guys are awesome! Thank you for your hard work and great videos! :). Could we possibly get an update video and see what’s going on so far with Proposition 114 (Reintroduction of grey wolfs) ?

I 2nd this! I'm curious of the impacts, positive and negative surrounding the decision to reintroduce wolves.

Uneducated voters should never have a voice in conservation. Let the scientists do their work and leave your feelings out of it.

Great work! I know I’ve got multiple lions on one trail camera. I can’t wait to see the results of your data.

Why do the collars fall off after 3 years for a 10 year project? This is very interesting, and hope to hear more about it! I would be curious about the population near Fort Collins. We have them in my area in Stout, CO

Middle Park is just the first location/phase of this study that will eventually encompass many areas across the Western Slope. The study in Middle Park will last 3 years, which is why the collars drop off after the data has been collected in this area.

    WHY? Is it worth it?

Keep up the good work guys! There’s very little information about the size of their ranges, what type of areas they prefer to bed down in, travel corridors, etc. A publication of this type of information would be great.

This is so cool! I hope Oregon does a similar study! I don’t think we have as dense of a lion population over here tho! ❤️🦁

Oregon has around twice as many as California and 3 times that of Washington. We have a massive lion problem.

Y’all need to stop putting those collars so tight, and also make them less bulky. UNLESS you’re able to enlarge it as they grow.

That must be terrifying. Imagine if someone shot you with a tranquilizer dart, stabbed you with a needle to take blood and then attached a bulky device around your neck that you couldn't remove. And these are the 'good guys', these aren't poachers/hunters etc. These are guys who 'care' about animals......and they are STILL putting animals needlessly through this ordeal. Us human beings have really got above our station.
