My Mother still owns and drives her 1999 ML320 she brought brand new. It has only been serviced at the dealer and has nearly 300,000 miles on the odometer.
Bought a one owner on impulse in sc, that was heavily optioned to. Never owned a Euro car nor do I take unfamiliar ones on long trips. I live in West TX & didn't have much choice! Nothing tells the tale like long interstate driving. Bout 12-1300mls worth. It done beautifully! As a former longhaul driver, it's the only vehicle that was so quiet & comfy. It made me sleepy to drive it. Drank a fortune in coffee!! Lol
Thanks for doing a very nice review. I have a 2000 ML320 and love it. One significant problem I had was the vehicle would self brake, sometimes at 65 miles per hour! After researching the matter, I replaced the yaw rate sensor, the lateral acceleration sensor and the brake stop sensor. The problem went away and has never returned. I have 202,000 miles on the car and it runs perfectly. The only other issues I have had was an EGR Valve and Coolant Temperature Sensor. I thoroughly cleaned the EGR Valve and the Mass Flow Sensor, and replaced the Coolant Temperature Sensor (and thermostat) and all is well.
I think these were criticized for build quality because it was a Mercedes. If you look around, it is easier to find one of these in good condition and running even with high mileage than any of the domestic brand SUVs of this era like a Grand Cherokee or Ford Explorer. I’ve always wanted to own one of these.
Great video. However you were mistaken on one point. The rear seats do fold down to nearly parallel to the rear compartment. They pull forward further and go down more than shown in the video and come right up against the front seats. You have to pull on the lower back locking device as well as the locking device closer to the front, on the side of the back seat. I believe you have to operate both locking devices at the same time to get the seat lower and further forward.
Thank you for the comment! And thank you for the information! I realized that after shooting the video and the vehicle went off to auction. I later read that in the Owner's Manual. Lol.
Thank you! It’s on a GoPro Hero 8 Black with a Linear lens and the Media Mod case with the stereo microphone. These cameras have gotten so much better than they used to be, and you can’t beat them for the money.
Great Video, I have a 1998 model in good condition, I am looking for trunk tailgate TAG lights and trim cover. Mines is burgendy in color. Do you know of anyone that has these parts?
I'm going to keep rebuilding mine if and when the time comes to do so. Great little cars. I bought mine used for $900 Canadian dollars. I put 1200 in to it within the first few months but it had been meticulously maintained at the dealership prior to that. I bought it from a friend and it was his wifes car. She had pinned every corner of the vehicle with her not so spatially aware driving skills. A fence post here, a parked car there and a shopping cart everywhere else. The passenger side front mud flap had been knocked off somewhere along the line so the mud and snow had been left to build up on the nerf bars along one side causing heavy rusting on the doors. I put two good passenger side doors on from the autowreckes and bingo, bango, bong it looked like a new car. Well, not quite but it looked waaaay better without the rusty doors on that side. I also removed all the rest of the mud flaps since the little bit of off roading I do would have taken care of them anyway. Long story shot (too late) it's been a great car.
First time ever I have been in love with a truck like that. I brought 2 of them and I don't know which one is better than the other one. Both are extremely good..... pretty soon I am gonna need a third one.

@Keyser Söze The Off road ABS IS ACTIVATED WHEN U TURN ON LOW RANGE ITS CALLED OFF ROAD ABS AND IT BRAKES MORE HARD TO ACIVE AN BIGGER EFECT OF FRICTION WITH THE MUDDY SOIL

Check the auto wreckers in your area
Those back seats go down further so the rear cargo area is flat. It was designed to be slept in.
The mechanism in this one that allowed that operation wasn’t working in this particular vehicle.

Weld a steel plate over the sunroof to avoid leaks causing electrical problems...
