Why didn't' they invent ghosts?
Great work team
I would like to know, did they stick it? Or did they end up having to use digital effects to complete the shot?
I'm so pissed I didn't see this in a theater... :(
@@RyanGrady It looks damn good is all I know.
Didn't even blink at the finale, assuming all the traps were added in post. This is freaking amazing.
I like how they dance around the fact that they are spirit halloween ghost traps, it's cool though because now we have access to the props used for production.
Weird that they didn’t just say it, there’s no shame in it. Even ILM used some store bought Star Wars models for Empire and Jedi.
They didn't have to look that good because you never really see them full on in the movie
Probably because that’s completely insignificant. Weirdo
@@Indrid-Cold it's not really, it's completely relevant to Adam's question about how much it had cost to make the traps. The answer that the guy doesn't tell him is that they didn't make the traps at all, they just bought them cheap at a Halloween costume shop.
The funniest part is when I watched it for the first time, and those doors opened. I immediately knew they were all Spirit traps thanks to the diamond pattern on the insides of the doors. lol
My favourite part of this is “How could production afford to make 200 ghost traps?”
CGI used to be expensive; it’s crazy that we’ve reached a point where it’s the cheaper option.
even long ago the one thing cgi has always been good at is doing multiple of an object. It works really well for changes. If you want to change the light on all of them from red to blue just change a setting on the parent object and all of them change.
Who said it was cheaper to phisically make them? I didn’t hear that part
The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him.
John 1:1,14 KJV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us,
1 John 3:8 KJV
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Isaiah 9:6 KJV
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
John 1:10
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT.
John 3:18 KJV
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
I LOVE the fact that those traps are Spirit Halloween traps!
So that's why they are no longer available.
@@RS-ls7mm They're sold under different brand names too.
Pre made and working at least
@@RS-ls7mm Well that explains so much!
Wow what a treat, thanks for the behind the scenes sneak peek! That was truly epic. 👍🏾
I love these deep dives into movies. Thanks Adam, you rock!
Well holy sheeit. They used 198 $20 toys to achieve the effects of the film's finale.
Those are 100% either Imagine Rubies or Spirit Halloween Ghost Trap toy bodies. I just recently modded both toys on my channel.
Based on all of Adam's behind the scenes videos, I bought GB:Afterlife on blu-ray and I absolutely loved it. It was so well done and I really hope Jason makes another movie in the franchise.
Well said indeed.
I've enjoyed watching Adam geek out on all this stuff too. Definitely added to the experience of seeing the film.
I can see Egon's grandkids moved forward with busting Ghosts especially Phoebe!
I was drunk and because a friend was talking about it I finally got it and both drunk and sober me loved the film immensely. So good!
@@daveash9572 These videos _need_ to be bonus features on the physical copies if they're not already.
@@Dargonhuman Some of the footage is included in the bonus features. I recognize some of the shots from Tested's videos.
practical effect always look better and real, this is awesome ! and Adam, can we have a one day build episode for a ghost trap ? :P
YES
Sean already has his ghost trap build on Tested.
@@Tyrunz exactly. It not only anchors the effects, but the story, the environment, camera and lighting etc. CG works better as a spice, a pinch of salt. But when you serve up a ball of salt, as they do often these days, it becomes a technotronic rollercoaster blast, leaving the viewer free-floating without anything to hold on to. It just becomes noise.
@adam if you want i could pre build the electronics with a customised arduino and relay - would love that project
@@Tyrunz "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should." :D
I just love Adams genuine enthusiasm. He's such a dude. I feel as though everyone needs an Adam in their life.
This is amazing, love watching tested! Thank you Adam for all the behind the scenes greatness haha
i LOVE practical effects. telling a story while tricking the camera into seeing what you want to see to me thats amazing. youre bending light to your will if you think about it.
This shows that this movie was made with SO MUCH LOVE!
I have to wonder if the scene with the truck didn't turn out like they'd hoped. The scene in the movie isn't what he is describing at all. The only hit that we actually see is a half-second close-up that looks like a CGI insert.
So much of the effects of Ghostbusters: Afterlife just felt right. It's the proper sequel that 1 and 2 needed. The finale was almost perfect, and I'm not ashamed to admit had me in tears at moments.
Was perfect* not almost.
RIP Mr Reitman. Sad that I see this video two days after he passed. I hope so much that jason takes his dad vision to next level. I can wait to see the outcome.
I love how much they used actual physical effects instead of the digital It just made me love the movie even more now
I love they made the traps open in sequence and close at the same time. As opposed to just opening and closing at the same time😀
That's why they have those huge batteries.
That was a nice touch, I agree. Visual effects - be they practical or digital - should tell their own story that supports and reinforces the main story, kind of like mini stories within the overarching narrative. The traps opening in sequence tells the mini-story that they use an incredibly large amount of energy to activate and open, so Egon had to program them to open in sequence in order to prevent an immediate overload of the power source while them closing simultaneously indicates whatever they're supposed to be containing could escape if one or more traps don't close in time.
I need to know where they stored all of the ghosts after they were trapped in the movie.
saaaame. I hope they address that and long-term storage solutions in the next film or show.
@@DanMilano They will have to at some point in the future. All those ghosts have to go somewhere.
It makes me so happy to see a Ghostbusters movie being done with respect 👍
The more i watch these tested clips about afterlife the more respect i have for the film
Fun fact, They are all modified Spirit Halloween traps lol
Doing it for real is so much better and I expect the actual cost of the digital effect is probably not always fully accounted for. Now, please release the plans so we can all make one !
Great movie, spectacular FX, a real touchstone to my youth in 1984. Watching and appreciating it with my adult children was a great experience. Thank You 🙏🏼
Hey! Spirit traps are technically screen accurate now folks 😁
How is it that u have better behind the scenes stuff then the actual BR/DVD release lol do u have any deleted scenes? Only one on BR/DVD! Ty for these tho!!!
And yet it didn’t even get an Oscar nomination. Travesty. DMX ghost traps is something I never knew I wanted.
Afterlife was such a great movie and all these behind the scenes videos show exactly WHY it was so good. Practical effects, respect to the source material, the level of dedication and care that went into making it; THIS is true filmmaking.
I found where all the Walmart spirit traps went
This is why people loved this movie, it feel like it belongs in the serie, and getting a Ghostbusters 3 was something we never thought we would get.
ANALOG always supersedes Digital 😎
Luv those GHOSTBUSTERS traps 😜👍🏻
1:44 Adam is so impressed he couldn’t speak…
It’s an absolute shame that Ghostbusters Afterlife has been snubbed at the Oscar’s for the Best Visual Effects award nominations.
Sad to see this series of videos end. I've absolutely loved them. Thank you for introducing me to the franchise in such a wonderful way.
he should weekly upload special effect content here, more movies and TV shows! MAYA too, stunts, and computer driver stunts as we see here.
That Tye character sure looks strong and handsome
I loved the practical ghost trap array but my only complaint is that there was about a second where I could make out the LED arrays within the traps when the camera was flying over the field. Seems like a diffuser (or a better diffuser) should have been placed above the LEDs to prevent each LED from being rendered on film.
Fun.... Have some.
Freaking awesome! Outside of little details like the ghost trap cables placed on the wrong side of the trap this was awesome. I do similar stuff with addressable LED's still using DMX and WS2811 protocols for my christmas light show so I understand the work that went into making all that work right! On 12V too from the looks of it.
Those are the power cables, since those were going to be buried I don't think it matters that much.
Eh, who said Egon didn't modify the traps to look like that in story? He's made other drastic modifications to the rest of the equipment in the last 30 years, and it could be he daisy chained the traps like that for convenience or efficiency.
Keep in mind the original traps from 1984 and 1989 were different from each other and were supposed to have been cobbled together from whatever surplus and handmade parts they could afford, so it could be he discovered a way to make them work better by putting the power cables on the other side.
What an easy effect to achieve in a cheap 3d shot though lol. At least they can recoup their money selling these on auction lol
Was never into Ghostbusters but I love people doing passionate work in camera. Definitely going to check this out.
It's a good movie with some flaws, but you may actually benefit by watching it without being a fan of the franchise as you won't have as high of expectations as superfans did.
Rest in peace Ivan Reitman
Wow. I came here for the 200 ghost traps, but the truck that can beat itself up and flip itself over, live during an action scene, is on a whole other level.
Can’t find it in the movie, anybody here go knows?
So cool to see all the work going into just the truck scene alone! Huge thanks to Adam and Elia for taking the time to show us!! 😁
Neat! The Spirit Halloween/Walmart traps are canon now! Lmao
Can't find any as well.
I started seeing this video, and then hear "used for the films finale", stopped the video, went and watch the movie, and then back to the video XD
Adam i soo wanna see the rc ghost trap. Imma huge rc nerd and want to build one!! What platform is it on what esc and motor what steering servo?? So much
You know you are in for a treat when Adam starts the video giggling like that.
*Nice video!! Very engaging from beginning to end. Nevertheless, businesses and investment are the easiest way to make money irrespective of which party makes it to the oval office.*
They just don't make 'em (movies) like they used to..."
Ivan Reitman just passed away yesterday. He made some sure fire classics, may he rest in peace.
RIP Ivan Reitman and props to Canada for churning out the talent :)
Kinda wish I hadn't seen that. I haven't seen the movie and I can see how that gag could be pivotal.
Commercial: Hey ghostbuster fans check out the new limited edition ghost traps! Great collectors piece! Only 259 made!....wait...really? Why did they...oh ok..
.only 59 available!!! 😊
This is one of those rare times where I'm actually interested in buying the Blueray of a movie I saw in theatres just to be able to witness its visuals again.
They did such an incredible job on it.
As a former physical effects designer n tech. I always loved hearing when directors or prods push for practical effects - and not just because it meant more work :)
If I'm ever blessed enough to find myself in a position to make a movie, I definitely would want to use as many practical effects as possible.
Adam is his young self again... "Do it Again!!!!"
This is amazing the movie is really good they stayed true to the original 2 movies
Hey this movie proved how great practical works in this franchise instead of 2016 cgi ghosts, practical really makes them seem eery and uncanny etc great spooky look
I watched Ghost Busters Afterlife last night ... first time in a very long time I have enjoyed a movie so thoroughly in a veryyyyyyy long time. And this scene was extremely cool. Nice to see those practical effects !
Loving all of these on set interviews and content.
Love how much Adam is the tech nerd. Just whips the flashlight out, and pops it back away with such smoothness.
This reminds me as a kid I pretended power strips were ghost traps
Practical effects are hands down so much better than CG even now!
I bet Adam has been itching to post these videos for months!
Outstanding!! Looked so good in the movie.
In a year I still want to learn about the special effects from this movie. Amazing job Adam and all those who worked on this movie.
Love seeing Adam fangirl so hard.
Wow what a treat, thanks for the behind the scenes sneak peek! That was truly epic. 👍🏾
The movie was amazing, and the goodbye to Egon and Harold made me shed a tear or two.
I already loved this movie... respect for the teams just went through the roof. Phenomenal work. I didn't question that the finale was digital at all, or the truck crash really.
im a 250 lb man. manly man. gruff, tatoo'd and bald. there was a family moment (helping moment) near the end that made me tear up. a lot.
Harold wold be PROUD of the work and love put into this!
Was a great movie
I want a wall of these
My favorite shot in the film no doubt
I'm more impressed these days by practical efforts than Digital. Not taking away the amount of work that goes into GOOD CGI, but something that's physically in the frame is just more visually impressive. Like damn, that actually happened.
Wait, are those Spirit Halloween traps?! It *would* be a cheap and easy way to get that many traps for sure.
No wonder those damned Traps are out of Stock everywhere! Lol
I love it!
The thing that brought me out of the movie for a moment was the fact the ghost trap array were Spirit Halloween traps. You can clearly see the tooling reinforcement on the inside of the trap door on one of the close ups, and that irked me a little. Only because the ghost traps are supposed to be hand build purpose use equipment that isn't something that can be bought off the shelf. Anyway, now cosplayers have more reason to buy Spirit Halloween traps since they're now, technically, screen used props.
it was a much easier and less costly method, especially since the array of traps wasn't particularly on screen for a long time. The attention to detail just wouldn't be necessary
@@honeychroma I understand they used the Spirit Halloween traps as a cost saving measure, which is a smart move. Using a mass market product, to save money, instead of building a large number of props from scratch is a valid technique. It's just for me, seeing the close up of the final trap closing, I could clearly see that the trap was a mass market product rather than a hand built prop, that took me out of the film for a moment because it looked out of place. I would have liked that they would have at least put a hero trap prop in for the close up instead of the Spirit Halloween trap. I'm not sure if it was an oversight or a conscious decision made by the production team. Just to be clear, I'm not against using mass market products as props, I just prefer they use an actual prop for close up shots to prevent breaking the illusion.
I need to watch this movie. I love that I'm seeing content like this compared to any piece of content I'd randomly stumble on during the last "reboot"
wow these are so beautiful
I just watched this movie, and that en was gut wrenchingly good. I loved it and every effect
The Tested crew watched it together and there was a LOT of sniffing and wiping of eyes.
The truck tailgate even more poignant following the passing of Ivan. Thanks again Adam and Tested team for these amazing behind the scenes shots.
R.I.P., Ivan Reitman...😞
Loving all these behind the scenes - I'd be a kid in a candy store too Adam!
Can't wait to see this movie. Update: $4.95 rent in US, and $24.95 rent in Australia (Amazon Prime). Thanks Sony!
One of the best things about the movie Chicago, was that most all of the stage effects were practical, using old school stage effects or mechanical props.
Love that classic Halloween ghost toy sound effect around the 3:20 mark. :-D
Lol apple ringtone
They have it as well? It’s been in those shaky ghost decorations since before iPhones were a thing, but fun to hear it’s become a ringtone now too. :-D
Ngl that's cool as hell.

Looks like they bought a bunch of the plastic Walmart exclusive ghost traps to use. Makes sense instead of building them all. Saves a LOT of time.
I couldn't help but notice that those traps are modified versions of the Walmart trap
Rest in peace Ivan.
I'd love a prop from this movie.
But again this shows people don't pay enough intention to good FX when it's done right.
All people do is search for the bad and go in on that, never to mention any correction (Sonic movie) when it does happen then move.
They just move on to the next thing to nitpick. However this looks awesome & with the lights out you can finish out the sequence from the movie in your head.
R.I.P Ivan Reitman
Was a great movie
I finally got my folks to watch and they loved it. My mom kept saying this feels like watching goonies. That is what I felt, it had all the fan service and new feel but the movie felt like a classic film. Love this behind the scenes videos, it's always my favorite parts seeing the gears come together.
I loved this movie. I appreciate all the hard work everyone put in to making the effects so wonderful. Great job!
Por quê não monta uma de verdade?

Love VFX 🥰
Love it!!!!
Nice work, love practical effects.
