Bob: *beats Monet in arm wrestling once* Bob: it has been ESTABLISHED and DOCUMENTED that I have more upper body strength than you so I could beat you in a fight
Halloween came from Ireland 😁😁 comes from our Celtic festival called “Samhain” (pronounced sow-in). It’s an Irish word for November but literally means end of summer 🙂
As someone who is Afro-Latino the religion discussion made me feel seen. It’s so frustrating to see members of both the black and latinx community held back by beliefs that were forced on them and used against them for centuries
Jacob talking super quietly in the back so you increase your volume to the max so you can hear him and then right after Monet goes THIS IS HALLOWEEN THIS IS HALLOWEEN in a high-pitched loud voice and your ears die and then you're deaf. Thanks guys
Not to be that person but, Coraline is NOT a Tim Burton film. Also Christmas from origin is called Yule, which was a Celtic tradition, it was measured from when the longest night would slowly start to shorten. So the nights would slowly become less, thus being celebrated as the moment the light beating the darkness and the days slowly becoming longer again.
Halloween in the Midwest still be poppin... Our rule here for knocking on doors was/is if the porch lights are on or the house is decorated you can knock. If the lights are off its a no go. Idk how this year will be, but the flow of Halloween here never slows down. The decorations are definitely not as scary as when I was a kid. Ppl used to build whole hunted houses in thier back yards just to grab the candy 😂😂 my favorite holiday. Haha.
i once read the inherent dislike of roaches is because they get into your own space/territory how they like with or without you knowing and that bothers/disgusts people
The thing about Freak-nik started as a party for the black sororities and fraternities students at HBCUs in the 80s. ( "Freak" was the name of a popular dance in the 80's and "nik" was short for picnic.) They were not welcomed at Ft Lauderdale where the white students went so they came to Atlanta. I grew up in the area and it didn't get crazy until the 90s because MTV started promoting it because they wanted to tap into the culture. That when every freak from age 13 to 63 from all over the US came and made it impossible to get around the city. They can't ever let my people keep nothing nice just for us. Besides that history lesson, I love Sibling Rivalry.
11:57 I was not expecting Bob to name drop my favorite song off Mariah's Merry Christmas album. Those countless D5s aborted so many Gen Z singing careers.
I’m going to be a massive nerd and mention that Tim Burton actually was banned from making Coraline. It was a Laika production. Which is an animation company known for making claymation movies. I also don’t think it’s considered a classic. It has more of a cult following then anything. That’s the typical response to tv show and film adaptions of Neil Gaiman’s books.
Monet, Bob is right that the word "pervasive" has a negative connotation. But, you can use the word "ubiquitous" which means "present, appearing and found every where". 😁
I'd just like to put out there that The Real World is streaming on CBS all access and i streamed it after listening to this. Watching the one from my city, Portland was a seminal moment for me, thank you
Sorry Bob, 99% of the time I agree with you, but trick or treating is alive and well! And the house doesn't have to be decorated, but we've always followed the porch light rule.
Christmas was officially established in the 15th century, based on the Ancient Roman Winter Solstice Festival called “Saturnalia”. Typically a time of misrule, where the social hierarchy was flipped on its head and debauchery was common.
yall could give us (poor fans from brazil) at least ONE full video of the podcast lol. i really cant afford the patreon content because to pay in dollar is too expensive for me. like girl, $10 is like R$57,00... this too muuuuuch.
I thought it was just me! I listen to the podcast on my way to work sometimes and when he *clacked* the fan I almost had a heart attack and crashed lmao
I gotta agree with Bob. I would take McDonald's over airplane microwave food pretty much any day. When I fly I have to stick to the bread and tiny salads they have.
Omg what about the Wesley Snipes movie, To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything. Where he’s a drag Queen with Patrick Swayze & John Leguizamo!? Yass Bob I Looovee Wesley Snipes in Demolition Man! His character is so BADASS!
OMG, Coraline is indeed a classic, first of all, and it's directed by Henry Selick, not Tim Burton! edit: I can't, you guys, Halloween is not just an American thing, though America perhaps celebrates it most gaudily, the word itself dates back to 1745, and it comes from a Scottish term for "All Hallows Eve", which itself dates back to 1556. Just misinforming your listeners and subscribers, huh... :D :P
Bob I hate to be that guy but I’m from Savannah Ga, and when I was little we trick or treated at stores too ESPECIALLY Food Lion and they would give us candy all the time!! I miss those days
Halloween was brought to america by Irish/Scottish immigrants in 18th/19th century and wasn't widely popularized until 19th century. Historically it's a holiday that originates in the UK

Monet: so bob how would you kill me?
Bob: *explains*
Monet: omg that’s so rude!
Bob: *beats Monet in arm wrestling once*
Bob: it has been ESTABLISHED and DOCUMENTED that I have more upper body strength than you so I could beat you in a fight
Also bob: Just because you beat me in a roast once does not mean you are funnier than me.
😂❤️

Yes!
Right! Like they don't see that the God they're worshiping is cruel.
Yoruba Isese practitioner here to second that statement. ¿Como 'ta, cuz?
8:03 Bob I have to correct you. Coraline wasn't written or directed by Tim Burton.😬
It was written and directed by Henry Selick.

Halloween is an Irish/Celtic celebration originally called Samhain and Christmas was moved to Yule (another Celtic celebration)
For those interested Samhain is pronounced Sow-in (sow like how you'd pronounce the pig)

It was the best and worst thing!! 😂😂
I'm making a gumbo but I'd let my roux burn for this podcast
Monet NEVER knows the history of things. lmao I love her though
I think we're all gay enough here to know the sound difference between a fart and a fan
Bob wants me to believe that she isn't addicted to sugar when she bought kool-aid pickles and shit
who else heard that beautiful alliteration? "Was Halloween the catalyst to your candy craving?"
“Amy Connie BERET” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣⚰️⚰️⚰️⚰️
Jussie Smollet all over again
The way Monet says Louisiana sends me every time 😂😂😂😂, && this is like my 8x listening to this podcast
FYI Halloween was not originated in the US
Yeah it originated in Ireland
Okay but Bob’s eye make up is looking fierce here.
Guys I feel as though your audio is a little lower than usual 😬
coraline is def a classic
Halloween is definitely originated in Ireland. Lol

Why is the audio so low on these lately?
Halloween is Irish but go off
Sooo grateful for these two
Kirk Franklin does call and response which is a very old Black tradition.
oh god, now i'm going to have 'nothing but the stomp' stuck in my head on loop. I'm not upset.

Coraline has nothing to do with Tim Burton Bob 🤣
Congrats Monet on being in Lovecraft Country
Monét’s laugh is becoming more and more soft, such a feminine woman! 😂
Y’all tricked me with the thumbnail. I miss the on camera podcasts 😅
On Trick or Treating. I have not had a Tricker or Cheater since the early 2000's No one Trick or Treats in Seattle areas
Oh yes we still go trick or treating in NYC Monet is right! Lol
Trying to listen to this podcast on the bus when it’s a throwpy fan episode is impossible
I hate to be the "ACKTUALLY" person, but Tim Burton didnt direct Nightmare Before Christmas or Coraline... Tim Burton did write NBC though

Adore Monét but the confidence in her inaccurate statements is alarming!
it's the same with bob too but bob gets away with it because she sounds so confident that everyone just believes her.
They’re going to read this on the podcast one day when they have a petty argument
*chuckles in Monet "gag"**
She's right about pervasive though
lmao @ bob leaving work to get candy
The scariest movie is definitely the neon demon
I did not notice the hair until Monet mentioned it 😂
Coraline is A Classic.
Coraline it is not. Tim Burton movie, also it has a great follow since its debut
The one where "new york is different". Haha
Now Monet you know none of our Caribbean countries celebrate no damn thanksgiving
Bobs Mic is quiet🧐
y’all I’m tryna switch to mint mobile but first - Bob/Monet get a code so I can sign up under y’all!
Halloween is a pagan holiday that originated in Ireland
But the big commercialisation of it comes from the US
Love y’all
You got me at Soccer mommy
Bob looks so much like his mom here omg
I guess I don’t need to see Midsommar now.
"And they put Jesus in it." Yeah, that is what they like to do, unfortunately.
