Halloween came from Ireland 😁😁 comes from our Celtic festival called “Samhain” (pronounced sow-in). It’s an Irish word for November but literally means end of summer 🙂

Halloween is an Irish/Celtic celebration originally called Samhain and Christmas was moved to Yule (another Celtic celebration)
For those interested Samhain is pronounced Sow-in (sow like how you'd pronounce the pig)

Not to be that person but, Coraline is NOT a Tim Burton film.
Also Christmas from origin is called Yule, which was a Celtic tradition, it was measured from when the longest night would slowly start to shorten. So the nights would slowly become less, thus being celebrated as the moment the light beating the darkness and the days slowly becoming longer again.
Its a synthesis of a couple of different traditions, not just yule

Halloween in the Midwest still be poppin... Our rule here for knocking on doors was/is if the porch lights are on or the house is decorated you can knock. If the lights are off its a no go. Idk how this year will be, but the flow of Halloween here never slows down. The decorations are definitely not as scary as when I was a kid. Ppl used to build whole hunted houses in thier back yards just to grab the candy 😂😂 my favorite holiday. Haha.

The thing about Freak-nik started as a party for the black sororities and fraternities students at HBCUs in the 80s. ( "Freak" was the name of a popular dance in the 80's and "nik" was short for picnic.) They were not welcomed at Ft Lauderdale where the white students went so they came to Atlanta. I grew up in the area and it didn't get crazy until the 90s because MTV started promoting it because they wanted to tap into the culture. That when every freak from age 13 to 63 from all over the US came and made it impossible to get around the city. They can't ever let my people keep nothing nice just for us. Besides that history lesson, I love Sibling Rivalry.

I’m going to be a massive nerd and mention that Tim Burton actually was banned from making Coraline. It was a Laika production. Which is an animation company known for making claymation movies. I also don’t think it’s considered a classic. It has more of a cult following then anything. That’s the typical response to tv show and film adaptions of Neil Gaiman’s books.

edit: I can't, you guys, Halloween is not just an American thing, though America perhaps celebrates it most gaudily, the word itself dates back to 1745, and it comes from a Scottish term for "All Hallows Eve", which itself dates back to 1556. Just misinforming your listeners and subscribers, huh... :D :P
