    Absolutely spectacular! I am delighted to learn that pine needles are such a good mulch - suits me really well, as there are several scots pines in my garden.

    I'm surprised the invasive nature of certain species of this plant wasn't mentioned.

    Oh those are just gorgeous. Is there an instruction video on how to keep them in pots? How large should they be for example, can I add coffee grounds or any other kitchen scraps to the soil mix? Do they need high or low sunlight? Where to place them in the garden. I prefer to get my advice from an expert. Thank you.

    Put very salty water helps feed rhododendrons it will help them grow better you can use some road salt grit around the roots this will help with better balloons for next year too hope this helps someone.

    I love it how they talk about them like they are pretty easy to grow... must be nice being in cold damp England :( I live in Australia and unless you live in the mountains these plants are not gonna be happy

    I have one of these fekin things in my yard and always wondered what it was, leafs never fall off, and it flowers and keeps slowly getting bigger and bigger. I estimate it being 15ft × 9ft x 10ft tall. Live in Ohio, and its by a huge pine tree
    I just read these are acid loving, which is great, because I'm planning on planting blueberries. Must already have acidic soil

    Yes, impressive, what a variety, I have a some too and several azaleas, how do I prune, how do I deal with disease or life after flowering, how is this a masterclass, other than a RHS walk in the garden.

    One correction. There are a huge number of ground cover type Rhododendrons from Nepal / Bhutan and other Himalayan area countries. They max out at much less than a meter but they are all Rhododendrons not Azaleas.

    I was reading not to plant a rhododendron near concrete due to the soil being acidic? I wanted to plant them in front of my house on the sides where there is a flower bed but also next to concrete walkway. Should I not plant there? Thankyou

    What does it mean to pot them up every couple of years. Does that mean you need to buy new ones every couple of years if you’re growing them in a pot?

    Would an underplanting of groundcover, hurt a 25 year old Rhododendron? My groundcover has spread under it and it is suffering and losing it's leaves. Thank you

    I live in a very hard water area. I would love a Rhodo in a container.
    What should I do to ensure I can water it if it’s dry summer? Should I use water from the Brita filter rather than regular tap water?
    Are there are any varieties that are more likely to thrive?

    • @frdiego
      @frdiego 5 років тому +3

      I grow rhodies in an area with hard water I find that they can cope well if they have good ericaceous compost. I also use water soluble fertilizer once a week or every couple of weeks which might help lowering the PH of the water. Or... you could try growing a type called "Inkarho". These are rhodies which have been grafted on lime-tolerant root-stock.

    This is far from a masterclass, as others have pointed out... For example, no mention to the invasive Rhododendron Ponticum (Common Rhododendron) and how to distinguish it from other variants such as Rhododendron "Purple Passion" or Rhododendron "Blue Peter"...

    I have a yard which is about 75% shaded most of the day but it gets full sun at the very end of the yard for most of the day. I have just bought a rhododendron and put in a large pot. Should it be in the full sun or in a more shaded spot?

    • @kevinvance4101
      @kevinvance4101 5 років тому

      I've had them in my garden for over 30 years and have found that they don't need much direct sun, do tolerate shade and do best in dapple shade but not dark shade, they definitely need daylight if that makes sense.

    • @Melwens
      @Melwens 5 років тому

      It does make sense. The handy thing about it being in a pot is I can experiment a little in moving it around. I will try it in the middle of the yard for a while, where it might get more partial sun. Thank you very much.
