Taft Gardner Gallivan did wear a headset, but continued to hold a dead stick mic because he was so used to holding one earlier in his career. If a mic wasn’t around, he’d hold a pen in his hand instead. Dick Irvin wrote that a technician once saw Gallivan holding the dead mic and asked “why does he do that?” Irvin replied “when you’re the best in the business, you can do it any way you want.”
Great to see the legendary Dan Kelly as the intermission commentator. As Sports Illustrated noted, “The Stout Irishman from Ottawa” was the absolute BEST play-by-play man in hockey. Yes, Foster Hewitt was the pioneer. Yes, Danny Gallivan, Bob Cole, Gary Thorne, Mike “Doc” Emrick, were all great PxP men as well. But Kelly was the best. And as an interviewer, note how he lets Jean Beliveau and Mike Bossy do the talking. Interviewers now talk over half of the answers and don’t let the interviewee talk!
Oh wow the memories.Roger Doucet,Danny Gallivan,Dick Irvin.Excellent! Interesting to see some guys have their ankles taped (around top of skate) i always taped my ankles but you don't see it anymore.
What I'd give to have one of those 1978 Ford explorer trucks. Boston had 11 20goal scorers this season, and a fine balanced tough lineup. They were still a few rungs short of the all star HOF stacked lineup of Les Canadiens. The greatest hockey team the world over
It would have been interesting if you could have frozen time and had these Habs play versus the Islanders dynasty team from a few years later, or the Oilers dynasty team just after that.
@@canadianguy7777 Compared to vehicles from the 1970’s, you are absolutely correct. However, I think the “sweet spot” is vehicles built in the 1995-2005 timeframe. You had the reliability of solid state engine control for perfect fuel and spark timing, but it was before the move to complicated infotainment systems, CVT transmissions, cylinder deactivation, direct injection, turbochargers and overly-small engines. I truly believe a non-turbo port injected V6 will long outlive a turbo 4 or turbo 3 cylinder car, especially if they are direct injected. Also, current cars are overly complicated by infotainment systems. While the current fleet of new cars are indeed better on fuel economy, I think they will not be as long lasting as those built 10 to 15 years ago. I’ll be a good test bed as I have a ‘95, ‘03, ‘16, and a new ‘24 in my driveway. Cheers!
One has to think that during the late 70's, The Flower's money was no good at any bar or pub in Montreal. And I suspect any piece of talent was his for the asking.
LOL! Yes, I was 16 in 1970 and 26 in 1980. I have several old photos of the loud, garish clothes I wore back then. I had a loud pink paisley shirt that I wore with jeans and cowboy boots! 🤣. The ‘70’s were Mankind’s all time lowest point in fashion!
Didn't Dick Irvin, Jr. do double-duty for the 1978 Finals, serving both as between-periods host for CBC Television and play-by-play for the local Montreal (CFCF?) radio broadcast?
@@vwm8534 Hey, I appreciate you uploading games. It's great to put out games that are hard to come around. However, I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't take my videos as they are and upload them. I'd appreciate that a lot.
Thanks so much for this great upload. I had a big grin on my face all the way through.
This version of the HNIC theme music is the finest.
Agree. Much better than the newer versions.
You have to love that the legendary Danny Gallivan preferred a stick microphone instead of the headset model.

A year later Lafleur would score (from the same place) on Gilbert in OT in Gm7 of the SCSF.
Not quite. He tied the game, late in the 3rd. Yvon Lambert scored the OT winner.
of course that's right...what was I thinking@@pastorfergus

All hockey broadcasters will tell you the immortal Danny Gallivan is the finest ever.
Did Dryden get an assist on that OT goal? He sure deserved one by the rules.

New vehicles are better in every measurable way. They last far longer, are more efficient, and are much safer.

Wonderful hockey game. Thanks to those responsible.
Lou Nanne s jacket second period intermission looked like a beacon from a light house.
a radioactive floatation jacket

3 d-men for most of the OT - incredible
Back when the Canadiens were a good hockey team and didn't stink like today's team
Chico Resch is like an anglo version of John Sutcliffe.
Scintillating.

Wow nice upload
3:56 raindrops keeping falling on my head
does he really have enough hits for 2 Lp's, what a rip off , coming to a landfill near you.
The Habs rules
Do you have any HNIC stuff from 1996-97 & 1997-98?
Thanks for the video. How about next time leave off the score so everyone doesn't know the ending.
Thanks for the input John. I did not realize the score was there or I would have removed it. Sometimes they get by me.
I think Chico is sleeping with Cheevers.
Do you have all the games of the series, as well as Canadiens and Rangers 79?
I don't think I have all of either series. I will put on here what I do have as I find them.
Thank you! Stuff you've posted has been great. Great memories.

If Boston had won that game, they might well have won the series.
