In '80 I took a trip with my grandparents in a '79 300SD. Mind you we drove between 55 (the speed limit at the time) and 65. During the trip from Chicago to Denver. My job was to keep track of the fuel. We averaged 32mpg with one tank, east bound out of Denver we got 37mpg. This was with two stops and down hill with the wind, but still very impressive for such a large comfortable car.
My '06 Sprinter in mixed driving regularly returns 27. On the rare occasion I travel at a steady 55mph I get 35! (Along with more than a few single finger salutes, but hey, I'm in the right lane)

@@mercedesclassicswithpierre1753 I would really like to know how to release a seat belt that is stuck in the lock position. How can I get that undone. It is a w124 87 300D. I see a button on top but it just slides up and down. So need advice.

@@yogib37 I would first pull very hard and very quickly on the seat belt. If that does not release it, then I would spray some WD-40 (a plentiful amount will do because it evaporates) onto the seat belt where it goes into the pillar, unbolt the end of the seat belt that is attached at the bottom of the pillar. I would then make the seat belt retract a bit and see if that releases it. If it does, then spray WD-40 into the opening on the pillar that the seat belt slides into and pull the seat belt out a bunch, but not all the way. Repeatedly retract and extend the seat belt to get the mechanism lubricated. I have done this to my 1983 Volvo 240 and it worked tremendously well. It doesn't hurt to pull each seat belt out and spray each with WD-40 and retract and extend them a few times to get the mechanism lubricated well. That will hopefully keep the other seat belts from locking up when you don't want them to. :)

I’d like to include the ‘05 and ‘06 CDI as a classic and l add that I got upwards of 38 MPG recently on a road-trip between Northern New England and NYC. Not so much going back as that’s mostly uphill and that was more in the 34 MPG range. This was at “normal” highway speeds and mixed use of the cruise control. I own 2 examples of this car and the other one has NEARLY 100,000 miles more and it actually does BETTER. The meter regularly says that I’m getting over 40. I’ve seen that meter over 50 on somebody’s car but then again those meters are HIGHLY suspect! Literally YMMV

So i just had to do an emergency run from just north of Seattle to Beatty NV recently. I left with a full tank and did not fuel again till i crossed Oregon state line. I was at half a tank and 276 miles later. 1999 C230 Kompressor 2.3L. This is the second one i’ve owned. Mine is sedan and first one was the coupe. both very good MPG. I was shocked though. I set cruze control to 68-70 and just drove. All total the trip down to Beatty was 95-100.00 in gas. ( over 1,000 miles total. ) I think it was 1,020 miles. These cars are underrated in my opinion. I do not use rubbish tyres made in china, cause here in Belgium, we have rain, cold in winter....as well as warm summers,....we often find german quality ans french michelin, with very good safety garantees....
I think your followers might gain from your good down to earth insights, me i learned a lot about what first scares, what is all written on a tyre! My got, its simply chinees at the beginning, for us leymen....back to my initial question: do you have any thoughts on playing with the 14 to 15 inch ,on a 123 240 diesel?...a mercedes guy who claims to know his stuff, said that the 200d had 175 cm wideness, 240d 185 and the 300d 195 cm....does this say anything to you? My w124 250d non turbo wagon got around 7 liters per 100km, but my 190d, can get around 5,5 liters per 100km.
That theory, would allow for the 28 mpg of the E 300, which is 8.4 liters per 100km.
Again, it's a very vague theory, but i'm a little bit surprised that the e 300d can get these 28 mpg.

The M104 2.8 is a fantastic engine, I love it! & has been running like a swiss watch for 5yrs now. On an Autobahn run averaging 114kph/3000rpm my consumption sits at between 8.5 & 9.3Lt/100km. I don't think I could achieve better given how well & how smoothly the car runs. Considering the ease & low cost of maintenance (& low road tax as a "H" vehicle) a newer car with better fuel consumption would just bite me somewhere else with repair costs etc that I can't do myself.

      91.5 ohms outer pins 7&15
      335 ohms inner pins 8&10

Rite on man, I averaged at least 30 mpg in my 1987 190d turbo 2.5. I miss that car. Got rear ended in it and insurance only gave me $800 for it and totaled it. I said, What am i gonna buy for $800 that gets me to work everyday and gets 30 mpg for that money. They said it's got 500,000 miles on it and rusted out, thats all were gonna give ya unless you want to hire a layer, oh well.

My 1977 280 CE gets as best 1,15 l/10km or 20,45 mpg and this is whit a five speed manual crusing at about 80 to 100 km/h or 49 to 62 mp/h. Average is 17-18 to mpg. Crusing at highway speed 120 km/h or 75 mp/h I get around 1,25 l/10km or 18,8 mpg. Sounds ok until you realise you have to pay 6,261 USD per gallon :(

I log my fuel economy with fuelly.
Over 3 months i've averaged ~30 mpg in a 1991 W124 250TD, 5 speed, wagon, non turbo OM602, almost regardless of how I drive it.
There's something not quite right with the fuel tank though. (Also the fuel sender; it doesn't read right no matter how much fuel is in there.) Maybe water. Maybe algae (fungus?) I drove 800 km and it started sputtering but I only filled up with 16 gallons. Theoretically I had 2 more gallons left in the tank. But I was losing power and getting a "misfire." I figured it ran out, but didn't get a "complete" fill, just the 16- ish gallons.
Previous owner said to just reset the odometer and fill up at 600km. Which i've been doing. I've treated the last two tanks with Star Tron, hoping it nixes whatever it is in the tank. I'll probably run a few more tanks with the Startron, then try to run it low and see what happens.
My 95 W124 E320 sedan averaged 25mpg (lots of long highway trips.) 10 years. Still have it.
    My 94 W124 E320 sedan averaged 23mpg. 2 years. Gone.

My 1990 260E 5 speed manual is using about 16,5 in city and 26 on road, 55mph avg; don't forget that brazilian gasoline has 27% of ethanol and our streets are very smaller than in USA. The worst case, rush time with AC on gives me around 14mpg, and it hurts...
