He'll obviously punish us if we do any kind of wrong deeds, but at the same time if we can realise our mistakes, he'll forgive us as he is the mercy of ocean... A person who is a great devotee of the Lord and has full faith on him will always be helped by the lord. This shows that he is the Lord of all. May be he is rich or poor, men or women. There is no differentiation on the basis of caste, creed and religion in front of the Lord. All are equal in the eyes of the Lord.
Hare Kṛṣṇa. For the sinful mūḍhas, Lord Jagannath is simply a piece of wood, but in the eyes of the pure devotee, He is the Lord Himself manifested in that wood or stone so that we can see His beautiful, magnanimous form and qualities.
