Glad to have you back mate, been watching for a while now. For anyone watching for the first time, you’ll learn a lot for if you ever think about buying a barn! Would love to see the drawings of the ‘barn rebuild’ :)
Hi Had wondered why uploads had stopped guessed maybe the original barn down may have caused problems, but great now your back and look forward to your journey
Mate. So happy for you both, and super glad you're back in the driving seat. I was turning into a bit of a UA-cam stalker, checking to see if you'd returned each day. Double thumbs up fella!.
I was gutted that you disappeared, thought you had got fed up making all the vids and just wanted to crack on, never in a million years did i think it nearly cost you Big time, due to those lovely planning Officers. Really glad its all back on track now mate and looking forward to catching up with you on the journey. Andy
haha I had considered not making the videos a few times, especially as it takes so much time and it's not like I'm earning any money from it. I do actually enjoy making the videos though, it'll be good to look back on it one day. Glad you're on board for the show
I've been binge watching since Gosforth Handyman gave you a shout out and when I saw the title of this one, I was immediately like "No way! This is awful", but then remembered I've already watched the damp proofing episodes so it must have come good 😂 Still, I'm really enjoying your videos because they're so honest and open. I'll never be in your position sadly (would love to live in a well-built modern house that has character in the country), but sadly we got on the ladder very late with bugger all equity and the house we have is the one we're going to stick with for the next 25+ years, although it needs plenty of work doing and some of it will be done by me. I take heart from the fact that you're just willing to give things a go I wouldn't dream of doing because it makes me think "Well, maybe I could do some of these jobs that I was going to get people in for after all".
Thanks Steve 👍 look on the bright side, you won't ever have this kind of stress! 😁 Nothing is beyond anyone with a bit of patience, planning and research hey! It's all about confidence. With youtube at your fingers I'm sure you'll be able to make your place amazing 🤘
Well done mate, wondered what happened to you. We have prior approval for our barn conversion class Q and now we will go for full planning for the same reasons you have mentioned although we have not yet knocked anything down so thanks for the warning. Looking forward to your next set of videos which are always so informative, relevant and at times entertaining. Did you get separate planning permission for your cart house?
Thanks Geoff. Not sure if you've seen part 2 but you may want to consider going full planning for demolition and new build, it depends on what you're working with and what your ground conditions are like though. I got my cartlodge granted under the same full planning application, on both the original application and the 2nd application. You can get reduced rated (conversion) or zero rated (new build) for vat on a garage as long as its included in your planning application. Same goes for special planting and stuff so you need to make sure that your planning application is quite detailed unless you like paying vat that is 😂 I can't claim vat back for the office/guest room above the cart lodge, just the garage part.
Just want to say thanks to the people that reached out to check everything was ok. We got there in the end :)

Thanks dude. It's slightly unfathomable, but, the drawings are exactly the same as the 'barn conversion' albeit they are drawn by different architects
Hi

Yep unfortunately I overlooked a technicality in planning law/policy. I know better now though!

Ah thanks Ged. You should just push the bell notification for when I upload videos haha I didn't actually know if I was coming back though...eeeek
Hi! I have been thinking about you!! I'm so happy you are okay'ish 😃

Thanks James, glad you stuck around whilst I went MIA
These things happen bud, at least you’re back on the path.
Jesus... bloody planning officers!! Glad to know things are back on track!
I had thought we might end up in a big court battle for a while there. Who in the hell invented this planning system?!
Glad to see you back and hear that it has been sorted. Was worried there
Thanks mate 👍 I was worried too 😅
Glad you are back and it’s all sorted 👍
