    Great idea to do an offensive strategy video and then put out a video on how to defend against it. Brilliant!

      Thanks Hambone. Every strategy has a counter strategy you just have to create it.

    I recently had my first G40 global game and I didn't do the Toronto raid or Tobruck, Italy became the reborn Roman empire, getting all but one $2 bonus. I'm curious how a turn 1 German airbase in Holland protecting the damaged German battleship with 3 fighters would influence the Toronto raid when 2 u-boats sink the British cruiser @ Gibraltar. Building this air base and 2 transports suggesting a German 10 transport build for the second turn. Oh, Germany adds 1 fighter to southern Italy airbase making 3 fighters protecting the Italian Navy.

    I like the idea of being aggressive against the SL. There's 2 places (with the BB off India, and the TT off West Africa) where you end your turn 1 spot away from a Naval Base... I'm pretty sure it's better to stop short and end your turn at the naval base because you can always take that extra movement the next turn and have more flexibility (your mech could make it back to London for example).
    However I'm worried about your Med play with this. If I'm axis, I'd be thrilled if allies react this way. This UK1 opening gives Egypt to Italy on a silver platter on its first turn, with the 2TTs aided with a several off-shore bombardments since you don't leave a blocker. Alexandria is toast, and if you consolidate those troops to Egypt UK1 then the Italian mech and tank blitz to Egypt too. UK still has ships in the med, but isn't in a position to take Egypt back for several turns, and that's a big loss for the allies and a huge win for Italy's IPCs. I haven't run the numbers but my suspicion is UK2 wouldn't have any great counterattacks if I1 was played right.
    As Germany I like to threaten a Sealion with much less commitment with the purchase of a single bomber G1 and saving the rest of my money. 3 SBR can do a full bombing raid of London G2 and help with an attack G3. UK needs to react to a potential SL (G always has the option to buy 1CV 1 DD 9 TT G2), and if UK reacts this strongly then I'm fine dumping a huge stack of tanks and mech on G2 and heading to Russia with the knowledge that Italy is looking far, far better than it usually is after the first round.
    Anyway, of course there are counter-plays to every strategy including the above, I think with a few optimizations in the med this could work out.

      Thanks for your input. I probably would have moved my stuff around to cover Egypt better if I had been playing a game. It's difficult to remember to do everything when you are making a video because you get quite distracted with camera work and thinking out loud. You do have those 2 transports left in Middle Earth which can mount a counter-attack in Egypt, plus the ships which can attack the Italian boats in sz 98. The Italians might have to take a closer look and decide to stay out of sz 98. They can consolidate in sz 97, take Greece, and add to their navy while under the cover of their airbase in S. Italy. It all depends on how things shake out in a live game.

      Totally agree with zergxies. Too much has been done here to prevent SL. However, I want to know how to recover from a sea lion which is imminent and likely to be successful. That's GHG's SZ102 move I guess. Requires an Atlantic CV buy US1, but I would do that anyway.

    Nice video! Good strategy! You were lucky with the dice though with the UK! It is possible to loose more units in your first round! But still looks like a fairly solid strategy!
    Also be aware that Italy is before france in the turn order. You might not be able to reinforce Algeria before Italy attacks!

      I noticed that after I made the video too. The axis would have to divert too many resources to Africa in this case. That in itself would put the Sealion plan in jeopardy.

    I know this is a old video but around the 15min mark when you moved your cruiser from India to Ethiopia wouldn’t that cruiser actually belong to the India power? Therefore you would have to wait until the British/India turn to move it?

    • @primroselane1
      @primroselane1  5 років тому +3

      Matt Jordan The British and India are one power with 2 economies. Once the units are on the board they all move and fight together. The only things they do separately are purchase place, and collect income.

      GeneralHandGrenade thank you so much for clarification, I was playing them as separate powers but once a ship or man went to another side either it’ll be U.K. or India to control it, makes the game a lot different now

    Can someone help me? I'd like to buy flight stands for my friends game set(A&A 1940 global). He has original game pieces from the second edition set. Do I need to also purchase game pieces that are compatible with the magnetic flight stands?

    For sure you'd have over 20 ground units in London plus 5-6 fighters.. losses taken be German Air Force would negate the benefits of taking London.. not sure I'd even be able to take London honestly

    Ha! I thought by "Defending Sea Lion" you meant defending it's validity as an attack.... I gotta stop watching lawyer shows. Honestly, I'm always wary of amphibious assaults unless absolutely necessary. Great video!

      Thanks Dude. I'll have to try it in an actual game to see if it's effective.

    I would however get some sea units into the Med via the S. France factory.. I'd defend that Italian navy to the death with German support

    question, at 22:30 or so you roll for an italian infantry that was removed during the british bombard, i thought bombard was before combat rolls, you wouldn't get to roll with the guy that was removed due to the bombard would you?

    • @primroselane1
      @primroselane1  7 років тому

      That would be the old rules of Axis & Allies from previous versions. In this version the units that are destroyed in the bombardment still get to return fire. Yes that is a bit silly to answer your next question.

      well that's something i've been playing wrong for years.

      I think I like it better the old way but that's the rules.

      That bombardment should be similar to the sub first strike, they would pound an enemy position first, which would kill a bunch of troops before they even had a chance to fire their weapons. Otherwise, the special ability is less valuable, along with it decreasing the already little reason to buy a cruiser or battleship, since defenders get to defend from a bombardment anyways. That would be house ruled to me.

    Interesting video. It may be more valuable if you set up the game as accurately as possible regarding the historical position of the UK at the time. Will the result be the same as the Battle of Britain? It is well known for example that Churchill sacrificed the French navy in order to preserve the RAF’s ability to protect the UK. Britain did not engage in a Naval operation. It would be interesting to play out the Battle of Britain with the exact same units in place as was the case originally!

    I'm about to play a game later I've only seriously gone after sea lion once( it worked) I know my playing partner will do Taranto so I'll try sea lion again and do it on turn 3. The time I did sea lion I waited till turn 4 or 5 I think as I loaded Scotland up with a ton of units as a staging ground

      Do you think that what I've done here would prevent you from doing Sealion?

    couldn't they take Scotland without significant losses?
