I ordered mine just before Covid hit. My husband and I put it together and I love it. 8 X 8ft. Aluminum with plastic panels. It does heat up excessively in the summer. I have the louvre on the side, automatic vent in the roof and a big fan in the end. I have a water barrel with a solar drip system to water the plants. My thermometer has a display in the house but I still need a reminder in my phone to run out and open and close the door when the sun shines. I don’t heat it in the winter so primarily use it spring and fall. I use the garden planner and love it too. ❤

I bought a small 6' x 6' aluminum frame greenhouse with polycarbonate panels - after watching the video it makes me wish I spend the few extra hundred for the 6' x 8'. I didn't really have the funds to get a bigger one but it is still a big step up from working with a small 4 x 5 plastic covered shelter! I will be setting it up in the spring and I'm really looking forward to my first year with a greenhouse 🙂

I have been building my own greenhouse this year, wasent quite done for this summer, but will be ready for the 2025 season :-) i love it allready, even thou its not 100% just the fact that it had a roof and sidings, made my tomatoes grow alot, and my pepperplant seem to love it. When the outer shell is completly done, i cant wait to build beds, tables, and shelves for maximising the space.

I finally built my greenhouse this summer, salvaging old bricks for the bottom two feet, old louvered windows all around, while using new polycarbonate for the roof and concrete for the floor. It's been so much fun learning how to "cool" the major summer heat here in Texas, using raised beds my husband and I made out of old store wooden merchandise displays, using goat fence squares for their trellises. Thanks for all your videos, as you tremendously teach me how to seed, plant, water, and grow almost everything I desire! You've been my stand-by guide for years, turning my brown thumbs greener. :)

Hi Ben, try looking at wood rot cure, simply drill tiny hokes to affected timber, paint on the product, it sets off rock hard. Your timber frame will go on for seasons to come. (Ive used it to great effect on sash windows, and rate it highly)

Thanks for another great video, Ben!
I have a greenhouse adjacent question for all you kind and knowledgeable Grow Veg fans: namely, when you *don't* have a greenhouse or coldframe, what do you do with perennial seedlings in November that are still too small to plant out? Are they just toast? 😢 I made the overzealous newbie mistake of planting an autumn plug tray of lupine, delphinium, foxglove, and cornflower about 6 weeks ago, and it's just started getting cold and a bit frosty in the a.m. here in Zone 8a Germany. I'm potting them on into individual pots and praying I can save them somehow. The Internet hasn't been helpful, maybe I'm the only one foolish enough to have done this.
Or perhaps Ben's latest video is my answer. 😂

It’s early winter here. Have a Yardestry. Impressive. We could have 40’s outside and it’s 80’s inside. 50’s and it’s high 90’s inside. Heater system at night to keep 50’s. Definitely think about multiple ceiling vents (I have one) and a fan to suck out heat.
If you want to use for winter greens that has to be understood too.

I've got wind and solar power so I'm looking to set up heating, I've also found hackable motorised window openers and I intend to combine with a Raspberry Pi Zero to control the temperature up and down as well as a fan for air movement combined with weather predictions for times when it would actually be best to retain some of the heat. Would not be able to justify heating without renewables. We haven't actually had the greenhouse installed yet, we're currently using what is effectively a clear tent as we wanted to give it more time to figure out what we want exactly, we've gone for a very big greenhouse, we're starting all of our seeds and we have a 2 acre field to grow in, so we need a lot of space and for both of us to use it at the same time

I'm at the planning stage for a self build bungalow & the plot is large enough to include a 20x10' greenhouse.
I'm going for aluminium, probably powder coated, set on a dwarf wall & toughened glass.
I'll put heating in, as the house will be getting vertical ground source heating & & that will have spare capacity.

By the way, those someone know if you can use the email from the support for garden planning and organisation doubts? I had last year and interesting testing year and I can see the potential the garden has, but with the new greenhouse, I am unsure I am making the best out of it.

Very good info! I believe you hit all the marks.
I’m hoping to get a remodel on my lean-to GH. It needs new polycarbonate panels and will add a heat sink to the floor with tile over that. I do use a small heater for seedlings in spring as they would freeze at night. Wish I had a brick wall on garden shed-suppose I could create one as it is possible. I was thinking of all kinds of ways to collect heat off the back wall.
I thought of a cold frame out the front that could catch heat and be piped into the floor, but then I think of heavy snow that would land on it from the roof. Everything I try to do here is a struggle. It’s just like trying to design a welcoming front yard when the front of the house faces the back and all the utilities to deal with🙄
I would like to hear more on ways to efficiently heat greenhouses. Thx Ben!

I'm buying a greenhouse in the spring, but I'm going for polycarbonate as I live in a windy area in Cornwall. I'm testing out the area first with a smaller plastic greenhouse to see if it survives the winter in that spot. A neighbour lost a new polytunnel last year in the wind, but he may have needed to put it right against the Cornish stone hedge for protection against the wind. I'm going for polycarbonate as I have a dog running round and there are horses in the field next door. I wouldn't want any glass to shatter and blow onto the ground around the field gate. Thank you for the video. It was very useful.

The greenhouse is quite theoretical still, but it'll be either 8' or 12'x32' attaching to the chicken coop. Posts will be 4"x6", the roof hasn't been decided on, but probably 2"x6" cathedral. The chickens will have access. The floor will be wood chips. It could be tied in to the boiler to stretch the fall season for tomatoes e.g. and getting plants ready for the garden that need an early start in zone 4a on the cusp of 3b.

Another way of heating a greenhouse is to have a large black plastic trash can around 40 to 50 gallons. Fill it up with water. When the temperature goes down, the heat from the water will heat the greenhouse. You may need more than one. Depends on the size of the greenhouse.

I have a 6 ft. x 8 ft. greenhouse I finished building this year. I haven't used it yet. I do have a potting bench and some shelving in it. It has two roof vents, but still gets too hot.

I managed to get a greenhouse from my neighbour really cheap as she was chucking it away. I have to put chicken wire over the windows and fix a door panel with chicken wire, which I can easily remove, over the entrance to stop the birds getting in and pecking my tomatoes etc. inside during the summer. I have a small “raised bed” in the greenhouse and I’m now trying to get rid of the mice/rats that keep digging underneath the greenhouse and robbing me of my winter growing veg. But I wouldn’t do without a greenhouse now.

Question, I do not have the money to buy soil and my yard is nothing but sand. What can I grow in sand?

Check out the Mittleider Method. Soil based hydroponics so soil doesn't really matter. This year I grew in unimproved clay soil that just had the Bermuda ripped (mostly) out of it. I started seedlings in 100F+ heat and harvested over 10lbs of cucumbers in one week from less than 10 plants.

I would look to gradually improve the soil with lots of organic matter - leaves, manure, compost. Lots of this you can often source for free if you are willing to collect. Many root crops like carrots will grow in sandier soils though.

I've got an 8x8 but it's too low. Keep banging my head on the door frame and glass. Any ideas on how to raise it ( higher not to the ground).

Try a motorhome dealer. Seriously. They have brushes on a pole that connect to a hosepipe.

Bless you Ben, thank you 💚 I already got my first-ever greenhouse 8x6 (I'm very keen but very amateur gardener) and I'm still learning around on how to maximise and use it properly LOL and so far it has been fun but very slow learning curve. I love your channel soooo much. 🥰 💚💚💚x

I wish! I could only dream of being able to afford any kind of greenhouse. Then, even if I could afford one, I wouldn’t be able to afford to install a base/flooring.
I tried a plastic one and that was a disaster!

I would love a green house, but I live in Hail Alley, and in the last fourteen years, we've had to replace our roof four different times due to catastrophic hail damage (baseball sized hail), as well as replace all of the siding and windows on the house. It's a feature of the geography of the area, and greenhouses out here tend to be half-dome, plastic-topped tunnels, where the plastic offers protection from the constant wind, but hail? Nah, they simply get shredded. Moreover, most places in the U.S. with homeowners' associations don't allow greenhouses, even tucked away in a back yard. My own HOA won't allow them at all, and we live in a rural area. Kinda depressing.

Why can't I buy a greenhouse with a timber roof facing North but a glass roof facing South? Surely that makes sense in northern latitudes.
