My great grandmother taught me about fans and I still love them
There are many Western misunderstandings. Folding fans in china originated in Korea, not Japan.
To be precise, the folding fan with paper is not from Japan.
The ancient artifact presented by Japan is not a form of paper pasting. It is also a form made for recording.
The first form of folding fan came from the Goryeo Dynasty. It also said in Chinese records that these fans came from Goryeo. For your information, China was gifted these fan by both Japan and Goryeo. They said that they came from Goryeo nonetheless.
Folding Fans with paper on the Japanese side appeared in the Kamakura period (1185-1333)
However, Korea already had a paper folding fan in 1023.
As the biggest example, Chinese envoy Song not only mentioned Goryeo folding fan, but also Japanese folding fan. They wrote that a part of folding fan originated in Japan. However, they did not mention that other originated in Japan.
They knew about Japan's fan and Goryeo's fan. Nevertheless, their records say that the folding fan came from Goryeo.
Currently, there is much debate about the origin of folding fans. In the past, there were many claims that it came from Japan. However, now, claims that it originated in Korea are much larger due to Chinese records and relics.
Above all, the claim that Chinese and European folding fan originated in Japan seems wrong because European folding fan mainly came through China, and Chinese folding fan came from Goryeo. At least the folding fan that appears in China's records is Goryeo's fan by name itself.
As greatly designed as the Egyptian Fans are its more like millions of years prior
I wonder... What did the language of the fan looked like in 1850's does it look the same like it is now? Or was the movements different back then?
I want to regularly dress in that era and I know a fan is an essential part of any lady's wardrobe so I really wish to learn.
The language of the fan is vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I think the language of the fan is all marketing tbh
