- Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. At 5895 metres (19,340 ft), it towers over the savannah of Tanzania, and is the World's tallest free standing mountain. This video documentary is our attempt to climb Kilimanjaro, via the 8 day Lemosho Route. It's going to be a beautiful, scenic, uncomfortable hike and the most difficult week of our lives. We have no experience, and have never climbed a mountain before, but summiting Kilimanjaro and reaching the roof of Africa is our dream and we are going to do everything to summit. Join us as we take on the highest mountain in Africa.

East Coast of Lincolnshire in the UK - no mountains here lol. Fantastic film and well done to you both for reaching the summit. The film is top notch - you should really get some sort of award for all you went through. Thanks again for your great work.
@@peterskegness3204 Thank you so much!!! Love to Lincolnshire! ❤❤❤
Watching from California ❤❤❤ I am in awe of you and Julia and the mountain. ! ❤❤
Watching from Virginia USA ❤

I lived most of my life in Africa in a couple of countries and the first saying I remember hearing was Africa is not for sissies. When I heard poli poli I nearly cried, so many memories. So glad for you both that you had this experience. Africa will never leave your hearts.❤❤
Thank you so much Agnes! This is for sure, it's in our hearts forever, can't wait to explore more!🥰❤
@MattandJulia not sure where you're off to next but please be safe. Wish I could give you some tips.
@@agneswatson9592 Thank you so much, we will! xxx
I was born in Kenya, so my Swahili came back. So many memories indeed!
I climbed kilimanjaro in 2023 when I was 64. It was my first mountain adventure and what an adventure it was. Standing in front of the uhuru peak sign is something I'll never forget. Follow alice was my guide choice. Absolutely no regrets and the safari I went on after that was also epic.
is it possible to just go on your own, or do you need to get a "sherpa".
@@Notsoquick yuo have to get a sponsor like "follow alice" adventures. I don't think you can go it alone. They supply food, tents, sleeping bags, toilets ect.
@@dandane3539 do they stop you if you go on your own? I just don't want to go with a sponsor.
Altitude prohibits non sponsored climbing . Gotta have a experienced sponsor who is approved by whoever is responsible for the wellbeing of climbers
@@dandane3539 Altitude? you mean like the government. The reason I ask is because I've climbed higher mountains with no sponsor, so I'm wondering if it's a requirement
I cried with you! Congratulations on such a huge accomplishment. I am an 80 year old great grandmother who watches your videos in Virginia, USA. You two continue to amaze me.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and support ❤️🥰 Sending lots of love to you in Virgina, from the both of us 🙏🏼❤️
Too high too fast , altitude sickness is no joke , it’s life threatening actually .The altitude gain is really dangerous. Amazing job congratulations for making it .🎉
This was THE BEST VIDEO you two have EVER MADE….I was in tears you guys I am really so proud of you two and may GOD BLESS YOU!
Thank you so much Kev! Really appreciate it! Lots of love to you and the family ❤️❤️❤️
This was one of the best Kilamanjaro vlog I’ve ever seen! I started a new role at a local university here in Detroit and guess what… my manager and the head doctor did Mt Kilamanjaro so now I have great resources as I prepare to plan to do mine!
This by far one of your best videos, you had me in tears at the end. Great job and Congratulations on summiting. You guys are truly amazing!!
Thank you so much! Really appreciate it! ❤️🙌🏼
This made me cry. I’m so proud of you guys. Your guides were so cheerful and wonderful too.
Thank you so much Emmy, really appreciate it 🥰❤️
Watching from Norway, this is one of your best videos
Thank you so much! 🇳🇴❤️🙌🏼
I felt like I was climbing with you. Well done to both if you. You must be very proud. Something you will never forget. Julie from Australia. ❤❤❤
OMG what an exhilarating & emotional journey. Brilliant.
Thank you so much Ross! ❤️
What a beautiful Vlog, Matt, and Julia. Why am I crying like a baby? My gosh, the scenery, the experience, the camaraderie and the memories you are making…. Having lived in Africa myself in the late 70s and early 80s (in Egypt and Morocco then for a few months in Tunisia) I always wanted to attempt Kilimanjaro! I’m almost 60 now and that Life dream as well beyond me, but I feel like I’m living a bit vicariously through the two of you. I just don’t have words right now and I think I’m going to have to watch this Vlog for a second time. ❤ That was NO easy feat!!! Kudos for all of the hard work and inspiration for everyone that still dreams of this. Your videography and photography is stunning - but I know it cannot do justice to being there in the moment. Even through the weather - you two are Flipping legends! I hope you are proud of yourselves!!! Bravo! ❤ 🎉 xx Jan
Jan, thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Really grateful for your beautiful comment and support! It means the world to us!!! ❤️ So proud to have along with us 🙌🏼🥰
@@MattandJulia I couldn’t stop thinking about you both last night when I tried to sleep. I just like we are experiencing everything you are experiencing because your Vlogs are just so beautifully done. It’s one thing to watch a video unfold, it’s something entirely different to experience the emotions along with you. I don’t know if you really realize how exceptionally wonderful you two are at filmmaking and storytelling. Ronnie and I still aspire to come and travel with you on one of your adventures. It would be a dream come true and I pray my health continues to improve so I can fulfill those dreams! Keep well Juliet and Matt, sending you blessings on this beautiful day. ❤️🫶❤️. Jan
Well done guys. Having lived on the coast of Tanzania for a decade, I managed to climb Mt Kenya and Mt Meru but Kilimanjaro was just too much for me in terms of altitude sickness.
Congratulations from New Jersey, U.S.A.!!! Wow, that was emotional and I am so happy for both of you! Thank you for taking us with you! 😊💓
Thank you so much Janet! ❤️🙏🏼
Congratulations guys. You battled through. You’ve done yourselves proud.
I hope you know that the porters that work on Kilimanjaro are working everyday bringing up over 80 kg EVERYDAY just for the tourist to make literal parties. The porters don’t any weekend, are working 24/7 and are still getting absolutely underpaid. The situation there is even worse than at the 8000 with the Sherpas. The porters are genuinely suffering bringing up those way to heavy backpacks while people like your favorite youtuber are just doing a little walk.
Btw, every year there are around 100.000 people doing the walk (1000 people a day), could you imagine how much trash there is?
Wow you guys, you did it! I started getting sympathy headaches as you went higher and higher. Terrific accomplishment you can look back on with awe. The scenery, you being above and in the clouds and it looked like you could reach out and touch the sun. Now I can see the desire people have to make these crazy climbs. I'm in San Antonio Texas and just watched you climb to the roof of Africa! Wow again!
Thank you so much!! ❤️🙌🏼 Haha, we got them editing too 😀 Really appreciate your support, lots of love to San Antonio 😍❤️
I never even heard you saying that you were in training for a mountain climb! Did you do any training at all? I am amazed by the kindness and the good heart of the accompanying guides. I am sure they get paid but nonetheless their kindness and warmth, not least their "never give up" is heart warming! Well done to you both!
i like that you are not playing. not showing that as a simple thing, so people can realise that this is not a simple walk
Watching from Detroit. WOW, you all are amazing. When you read that it was an “easy” hike, that had to be from the standpoint of very experienced mountain climbers. I’m so glad you made it.
Yeah I think you could be right for sure! Thank you so much 🥰❤️🙌🏼
Amazing video of your adventure on Kilimanjaro. Thank you, from Seattle Washington USA!
Thank you so much Louanne! ❤️❤️❤️
So inspirational! Thank you for sharing this experience with us!! Truly happy that you all achieved this amazing goal! 🥳 Your best video yet! You both should be so proud!
Thank you so much for your support Laura, that honestly means the world to us!! 🙌🏼❤️
Los Angeles CA. You guys were awesome. Not only were you guys brave, amazing, incredible, you took the time to record it. Thanks so much. At my age at 70 I will take that one off my bucket list. Thanks for doing for me.

Congratulations on achieving a lifedream!🥳 I did the 6 day Machame route in March without experience it was difficult and im impressed that i made the summit and as soon as you stand there the feeling is more than worth it!

Thank you so much Bijan! The privilege was all ours! Bring on Everest base camp! 💪🏼🗻😀
Well done to the whole group. Am in Essex, UK. I did the same trip last August with Follow Alice and it was much busier. The emotions, fatigue you experienced echoed my own. I conjured up some reserves of energy from somewhere and just thought about my late mum whose spirit carried me through. We were both born in Kenya(just across the border) so it was like coming back to my roots. Brilliant that you gave a shout out to the amazing porters and Follow Alice, I wouldn't recommend any other company. Alex was my assistant guide last year and I wouldn't have done it without him; he was so full of enthusiasm and energy, it's remarkable. I've no idea where it comes from considering the number of times he's climbed it, it always seems like it's the first😀. Am still in touch with him as we're going back again in a couple of weeks. Glad you all made it safe and sound. Never give up on your dreams! On to the next adventure
Just amazing! Wonderful video!
Thank you so much Laurie!!! ❤️
