I watched your video Saturday night. Removed three blown caps Sunday morning but didn't find them at Radio Shack. Store was closed for July 4th celebrations so had to wait until today. Got three capacitors: $3.42. Came home home and in less than 30 minutes my TV (Samsung 40" 530) was back on. You just saved me over $200. Gracias a usted y a su pequeño ayudante. Keep up the good work!
My son and I thought we got ripped off by Samsung when the tv died after just a year, but thanks to YOU we fixed it ourselves and saved alot of dough. You're the best. Thanks a bunch!
I have this problem with my 40" Samsung as well. Thank you for your tutorial. I was a little worried, but now I am confident that I can do this. Also, please give your helper, Milo, a raise. He deserves it for his hard work.
Wow, what a great Dad you are! You dealt with your "assistant" so perfectly. I will be repairing my TV with the info in the video but your example is also a great lesson in parenting. Thanks!
I'm certainly no electrician, but after googling the problem I found this video. So I plucked up the courage to take the back off and found that the capacitors were indeed leaking fluid as described. With my new $15 soldering iron and $4 worth of capacitors from the local electronic store, I followed your instructions and the Samsung TV has been resurrected! You sir, are a legend!
I fixed my magnavox thanks to you. It cost a total of $12.00 in parts. Every repair shop was quoting $100.00 plus just to look at it. I did better than I thought a soldering and it is because after watching your video, I had more confidence. I will never buy another Magnavox because of quality and customer service, but I have to say fixing the tv has made my week. Also a big thank you to your camera crew, that helped alot. Keep making videos buddy...Thanks
Thanks! You've provided a great service to a lot of people. I was able to repair my TV with your help. I also made the comment to my wife what a great Dad you are. Totally came through.
I can't say thank you enough. You saved my TV and my wallet! Took care of it for $33. I replaced 4 caps and the TV started right up. The Samsung was taking up to 20 minutes to fire up before. Thanks Again!!!
My first UA-cam comment ever to say THANK YOU for this wallkthrough. Just fixed my TV tonight; went totally smoothly, but I probably wouldn't have attempted it without this video. Less than $6 for the 3 needed caps, plus some solder (I was out) and flux. All the 10V caps had gone on my TV; the 25 ones were fine, so far.
This video did the trick for my Samsung 40" flat screen! Pay attention to the positive and negative markings on the board and capacitor so you get them installed correctly. I ran to Radio Shack and bought 4 of the part #272-1032 at $1.79 each and they worked great. Put the TV back together and wala! she turned on perfectly and works great now! Saved a bundle! Thanks much for this video!
I am a 48 yr old single mom AND I FIXED MY OWN SAMSUNG TV FOR $28!!!!!!! Thank you so much for posting this video. YOU ROCK!!! If I can do it, anyone can do it.
Awesome job, I'm gonna attempt this on an older tv we got six years ago! Let it be known you are helping alot of people fix their tvs and save money. Having your son in the video gave it charm as well!
I bought my Samsung 40" in 2008 and it worked great for 2 1/2 yrs. When it started failing to power-on, I thought I was screwed. I researched online for this problem and was astounded by the amount of similar complaints from other Samsung owners. I posted my displeasure of Samsung on Facebook, and a good friend sent me this link. I'm not a techie type of person, but your video looks relatively simple. I'm going to attempt your repair procedure this week. I'll post my results as soon as I'm done.
Just done the repair to my 40" lcd I replaced all 4 of the 10v caps with 35v even though only 3 where gone but thought as I was doing it I should just replace them all, cost me £2.88 for the caps already had the solder and iron so just took under an hour of my time, works a treat now thanks for the tutorial it has saved me hundreds in repair bills.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Saved me money, frustration and a whole lot more. Never soldered in my life but it was simple enough, and all is working. I may have failed repairing a dishwasher leading to a weekend without it, and may have screwed up a few other household projects, but this was made simple thanks to your video. You rock! and so does your helper!
I just did this! I got the LN40A750. I replaced two capacitors. I bought a bunch on ebay. It took a week to arrive. The kids were going crazy without a TV! But now they are all happy! They can play again! This video was great! I followed it and everything went perfectly!
Yo dude. Can't explain how appreciative I am of you posting this video. I doubted myself actually. It worked and only cost me 30 dollars for everything i needed.
Thank you so much! My Samsung LN52A750 was turning off and on at startup for the past 4 days and then yesterday after 3 hours of off/on I just unplugged it. I had a Samsung rep scheduled to come out on Wed for $100 (diagnostic, NOT fix) but instead I saw your video and never having soldered before in my life, it helped me a lot! Went to RadioShack and picked up about $30 worth of materials, spent about 1hr of work and now it works! THANKS!!
2/5/11 - thank you !! figured out that bad capacitors were causing my RCA screen to flicker - but had no idea how to change. Your video was awesome in the detail and allowed me to fix our tv in about 30 minutes total. I really appreciate your time in sharing. thank you.
Thank you so much. I own a 42 inch 2007 LCD Samsung and was gonna THROW IT AWAY and decided to type: CLICKING SOUND AND NO PICTURE... BAM! 8 thousand sites come up about SAMSUNG... Imagine that... ANd they blow around 2-3 yrs usually... Well, pretty easy to see I had the problem... Your video saved me a NEW TV... 2 blown 10 volts now have 35 volts in their place.. 1st time Ive fixed anything of mine myself.. Took me less than 2 hrs, and less than 20 bucks... THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Thank you so much! A trip to radio shack and 90 minutes later the TV is on and the wife and kids think I am a genius! 5 replacement 35V 1000MFD Capacitors @ $1.59 30W Soldering Gun $7.69 60/40 Solder $2.19 1 can of rosin $6.59 TOTAL: $24.42 It was very easy. I just followed the video step by step. Thanks again and GOOD LUCK to OTHERS!!
Top advice, it worked for me, saved between £400 -£500 (quoted) to repair it. We spent £1500 on this TV and it went belly up after 17 months. £5 for the parts, couple of hours to do it, 'POW' power on and it worked. Cheers mate you did well. ENGLAND.
Thank you for helping every body on fixing this issue. I called the samsung guys they said they are giving one time free service for the capacitor issues. I was planning to go and fix my self but since now they are giving free of serice I will for them. Thanks again for helping people to save lot of money.
Thank you for the video! I was able to fix my Samsung LN-T4669F. It had two leaking 2200uf 10V 105C Caps. There were only two and both were blown. I was able to replace them with 2 2200 16V 105C Caps. Reassembled and now my TV works great again! Starts up like a champ and no more clicking. It had been taking 10 minutes to start for the past month and today would not even start at all. TV was out of warranty so I was not happy. I am now. Thank you!
Problem fixed for $3.00 in about 45 minutes (including taking the power supply board over to a neighbor's house to do the soldering). Works great now! Thanks!
This video is priceless. You sir, are my hero. Side note: I have a Samsung LN40A550, the capacitors are very tightly set. The Radioshack 35v will not work on this particular model; you must find a smaller volt capacitor. Thanks again!
You R the man! Today we did what you showed in your video. And... It WORKS! It was a hour work that includes going out for the parts =€3,30 ;) You saved us €270 today! We openend a bottle of Cava to celebrate it and in your health. Greetings from The Netherlands..
I had to go to Amazon.com to order 2 capacitors, I could not find them locally. I was able to replace them successfully using your video as a guide. Appreciate it, my 46" Samsung HDTV is back to normal!
MANY THANKS from INDIA. Your set by step instructions were wonderful. I repaired my Samsung 40" LA40A550 replacing 2 x 10v 1000 capacitors by 25v 1000 ones. I couldnt get 35v ones. But it works good as before. Total cost for 2 capacitors INR 10 = 0.22 cents. Other costs less than $1. Price quoted by Samsung $150.
I just fixed my TV a few minutes ago and used this video for reference. Who knows how much money I saved... I'm very happy I was able to do it myself as I've never done anything like this. Thanks for the video to help all of use who've been burned by Samsung.
Thanks for the video and everyones' comments. It gave me the confidence to attempt and repair a TV I purchased from a friend at a hell of a price. Thanks again for the video, its great.
Thank you so much for this great video. I have never soldered in my life, but today I decided to give it a try. With your very easy instructions and great little helper I fixed my TV for 50 danish kroner (ca. 9$). Thanks!!!
Thanks for posting this, changed out two 2200 uf capacitors in my 42" Samsung, went for the bulging capacitors. They were bad enough that it was; at worst taking up to 55 min of clicking to finally come on, I decided it was time to take it off of the wall and tear into it. Radio Shack had the 1000 uf, but not the 2200, after searching on the net found a TV repair shop that had them @ $2.00 ea. This was soo intimidating, even with prior soldering experience, it's back on the wall & wifes happy.
I have to say after review several of these videos, yours is pretty darn good. I dont have samsung, but I was afraid of the removal of the capacitors because no one shows you how and you make it seem so easy. Thumbs up to you
Thanks man! I fixed my LNT4665F yesterday. It's working great now (fingers crossed). Mine only had 3 caps and I replaced them with 1000uF, 16V, 105C, low ESR Panasonic caps, part number EEUFR1C102 (71 cents ea.). I don't really understand the difference between using 10V, 16V, 25V, 35V etc., but so far so good. The soldering can be a little tricky if you've never done it (like me), but the whole job still only took me about 2hrs with a lunch break included. Saved me big time!
I am attempting to fix my flat screen right now. I went to Fry's electronics and radioshack to get the capacitors that looked bulging. Unfortunately, I had to get a 1000 uf capactor instead of a 820 uf capacitor because Fry's didn't carry it! It still doesn't work. Maybe the capacitance was too big ;( I absolutely love your video (and the helper you have there!)
Thank-you 1000 times! Exactly the problem I have, can't wait to get going. I had to repair my TV last year for over $400 (just off warranty) and now it's doing the same thing again. I was going to throw it out if I had to pay again, but looks like I can do this!! Awesome, and Kudos to you and your li'l assistant!
I don't have a Samsung, but the basics of the videos are exactly what I was looking for. You both made a great tutorial here! I've had 6 broken tvs given to me and I bet 4 out of the 6 tvs I have sitting in my basement have cap problems. Power supply problems seem to be the most common. One question, when you were removing the caps, you rested you solder hand on the back of the board near the hot caps. Is there a danger that the hot caps could discharge if accidentally touched on the back?
You are the man! Samsung wanted to charge me $800 and told me the whole board needs to be replaced. Scumbags! $5 and 30 mins later tv works like new! Thanks again.
Very nice tutorial. I have the 46" LNT4665F and had all the symptoms (purple/green lines and dots, clicking, and recycling of power several times until it finally wouldn't start at all). My model only has three of the 10-volt 1000-microfarad electrolytic capacitors, so only they needed to be replaced. All 3 of them were obviously bulging/leaking and were replaced by 35-volt 1000 microfarad capacitors I found at my local Radio Shack for $1.59 ea. TV started up just fine now. 30-60 minute job
Just a quick thanks to ya buddy for this DIY tutorial! I had the exact same problem, followed your instructions and had my LCD back up and running in under an hour. Much appreciated!
Thanks for the video. I replaced 6 capacitors on my 50 inch LG plasma TV because it took several tries to turn on. It works perfect now. Thanks for saving me some money!
Thanks for video! Our 46 LCD would click a few times before powering up, and then eventually it would take 15 or more clicks. I replaced 3 capacitors (10V 1000UF) with 16V 1000UF. The person at Fry's confirmed you can go up in voltage but the UF should stay the same. It didn't take too long and I got to practice my soldering techniques. It now powers up like new - Thanks Again!
Just did this today for my Sammy 5271. Thanks to your video it was possible for me to even attempt this, or even know what was going on. THANKYOU!!!!!!!!!! Best wishes.
Thanks Rene, I am not a TV repair expert, but your problem is intriguing. Your problem sounds like it could be caused by unstable DC power rails (which is a result of bad electrolytic capacitors). As long as your TV is not under warranty, you have little to risk by opening the case and taking a look around in there. The folks in the TR forums have taken some great close up photos of what bad electrolytic caps look like:
Dear Professor. Fantastic video! One question...how can I be sure my capacitors are discharged? If not, is there a way I can safely discharge them (e.g., touch with a well-insulated screwdriver) without busting anything?
Thanks for great vid. Hi to helper and lovely wife. My Samsung has near same symptoms - comes on, then goes off after 0.5 second. The caps are not bulging. Do you think I should replace them or is this something different?
Excellent video. I do have a newbie question. If I only need to change out 2 of the capacitors, can I mix match different volts. I could not find any 10v that the TV originally had but I did fine 35V, 1000 uf, up to 85 degree Celcius. Will that be ok?
My father doesn't have a UA-cam account, but he asked me to comment on this to say thank you and that your tutorial allowed him to get our tv up and running again. He also says that you have a cute kid.
Thanks TV Daves, Do you have a particular in circuit capacitor checker that you can recommend? I have never used these before, but if they work well I can see how they would be useful. I agree, the Japanese capacitors are of a higher quality but higher priced than their bottom of the barrel Chinese equivalents.
Great Video, Thanks. Does this repair the scattered pink dots when turning on the TV. Does samsung cover this for out of warranty? really appreciate a response
Thank you, thank you, a million times! This worked great with no problems at all. Sometimes you question you abilities - and so does your family - but everything went just as described. It cost me about $25 for soldering iron and things but this is a $375 savings. Again, Thanks.
I did all of this, it is very helpful, Thank You so much!, but it did not turn on, I put the negatives and positives right, the right compositors and more, but is not turning on. Do you guys think is the Fuse that is done and buy another one, or what else? Thanks for the response
Dude! This video is VERY VERY GOOD. My only problem was 1000uf 35v 85C were a bit too big. I also worry that the 85C temperature rating of the caps may overheat because of the adjencent heat cink and the original ones were 105C. I put some heat shrink(125C rated) around the 85C caps that fit nicely. I think I'm ok but... should I order the 105C cap and replace them again?
Great work! Sounds like you fixed yours even faster than I did mine... Would you mind sharing with us which capacitors you replaced on your 40inch Samsung and what brand and part number caps you replaced them with?
This is a great video. A few people who were not comfortable with soldering have sent their boards to us and we were able to repair them cheaper than their TV repair store. We will share this video with others who ask if there is a way to do it at home.
Sir many thanks for your excellent video, i managed to repair my 40 inch LE 40 656a tv in less than thirty mins using caps i salvaged from my old tube tv , ( i wasn't patient enough to wait for new ones to be delivered ) and its working grand thanks again.
Great job on your videos!! Very informative.. My question is I have (2) Olevia 242 S11 flat screen TVs. Neither one will turn on same as your Samsung. When I am able to get a picture on one the sound went out. I shut the TV off and tried to restart it now no pic, no sound, black screen. Do you think both problems are related to the capacitors? Or would it be two diff problems? Would the capacitor replacment kit include a capacitor for the sound? bbb
AWESOME!!! I used this video to fix my 46" LCD flatscreen from Samsung. I will never buy anohter one of their tvs again. I wrote them a letter and they never responded. THANK YOU SO MUCH !
Thank you very much; This video helped me to replace two capacitors in my Samsung 40" LCD TV. I seriously doubted it would work since I have no experience with soldering but even though I skimped on the flux as well as the alcohol, and even though the replacement capacitors was a lot bigger than the old ones, the tv turns on right away now. Awesome!
Brilliant and very informative video. My father's Samsung 42" LCD is displaying the same on/off characteristics and its only 2 years old. Im beginning to learn thats its obviously a common fault with Samsung. Many Thanks from England :-)
This is the 4th time my Samsung 55" LCD has quit working in 3 years, 2 screen issues and second time for the capacitors. Spent about an hour and $5.00 to replace 3 capacitors thanks to Milo and his helpers. Works like it is supposed to once again.
Great job!! thanks for the detailed explanation of the steps. I have a problem with a 37" Vizio HDTV these are its symptoms when turned to the ON position the TV will come on and stay on for a few minutes but then it will turn off by it self. Do you think that I may have a similar problem as the one on the video? Again thanks and say Hi to Milo :) Rene from Sunny Norwalk California.
Dude this is great. First off, thanks for taking the time to document your fix. I think it's fantastic that you would take the time out to do it and post it up on youtube. I for one am not confident in doing this unless I have an idea. But you didn't give me an Idea. You practecally wrote the freaking manuel. Kudo's to you! Second, the level of detail was amazing, thank you!
Awesome post. Just finished fixing my 52" Samsung and it is as good as new. I am a absolute rookie when it comes to this stuff. If I can do it so can you!!!! Thanks a million
Great video , you seem to know well all this power supply fix , if I want some professional to fix this problem , how much you thing a fair fee charge would be ? Thank you in advance !
To me it well worth an extra few bucks to get a good capacitor. I suggest digikey. Ask one of their reps to help you navigate around on their web site. The capacitor checker I'm using is a EDS-88A. Someone told me its the Cadillac of cap checkers. I don't know if this is true, but I'm pretty happy with it, except that I wish it was damage proof. I disagree with your opinion on wire wick. I think if you had a high end soldering iron and good wire wick it would be your preferred method.
Thank you so much for the info! This helped me fix my 42 Samsung LCD TV. In addition to powering on and off it was doing the rainbow screen. 4 capacitor replacements later, its as good as new. BTW, on another board I found a suggestion to replace the 10V capacitors with 16V capacitors (which I did) to reduce the likelihood of this happening again.
Thank you,Thank you,Thank you The vids were EXCELLENT! My 52" was doing this same thing, I had to replace all 5 caps, i used a 25v at a cost of $1.25 USD each. $6.63 including tax. And thank you to Samsung on helping me decide on which brand NOT to buy the next time I am looking to purchase a new TV
in less than an hour and a half I took the TV down, back off, went to The Shack, bought soldering iron, and 4 capacitors came home replaced them put it back together and boom goes the dynamite it work better than new!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $26.00!!!
hey thanks : ) This video tutorial helped a lot and made it possible for me to repair my lcd tv. Saved me a ton of money and grief. You're a life saver! Or a tv saver.. you know.. whichever.
Great video. Thanks a lot. You gave me the confidence to try this myself. I tried it today, and my SAMSUNG LN52A750 is back in working order! THANK YOU!
You are the bomb and your helper is adorable, lol! Thanks so much for this, I'm definitely gonna give it a shot (my stupid Tv doesn't turn on at all anymore and I'm out of warranty so I've nothing to lose). The only thing is I have no clue what type of capacitors to buy. Could you make a suggestion? I have a Samsung LNT4042H. Would appreciate if anyone could.
I don't have any of the necessary tools (to work on the board), would you mind telling me what I should pick up? Looks like I'll need a soldering iron (or station), flux, solder...
My Philips TV 42" has a similar problem, but with erratic turn on-off control with the red led either off, or on vanishing after a few seconds (a capacitor that can hold the charge?). I am almost sure that this video will help me out in a course of action. The only I pray for is that the caps show "visible" damage.
Thanks so much!! I replaced 4 bulging caps with higher-rated voltage ones from Radio Shack (total cost = $6.74). A friend of mine did the soldering for me. Question: How critical is the temp rating? The new ones were rated about 20degC less than the old ones. But that's all Radio Shack had. Am I possibly in for a repeat performance? Shame on Samsung for all this--there should have been a recall.

THANKS SO MUCH! Fixed my friend's tv with your video as a guide and now I'm a big hero.
Maybe the capacitance was too big ;(
I absolutely love your video (and the helper you have there!)
Thanks again.
would this apply to the samsung model LE46A557P2F ? does it have the same capacitors? thanks. and great video
I just finished following your videos about 5 minutes ago and everything is working perfectly. Thanks very much for your help.
Easy fix with this how to! Perfect for anyone who has no clue what they are doing. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks TV Daves,
Do you have a particular in circuit capacitor checker that you can recommend?
Thanks for the video man! We just fixed the tv at work for a few bucks while it would have cost a lot more. Way to give to the community.
Thanks so much for the video. I ended up paying $9 for the repair and had it done in less than an hour. Awsome Video!!!
Again thanks and say Hi to Milo :)
Rene from Sunny Norwalk California.
Another happy viewer! Great video, really clear and helpful. Thanks so much for taking the time to post it. You saved me 300-quid.
Thanks a million
thank you sir. fixed my samsung 4665F using your video as a reference. saved myself a great deal of money.
Great video , you seem to know well all this power supply fix , if I want some professional to fix this problem , how much you thing a fair fee charge would be ?
Thank you in advance !
Great Video, gonna try this on my 52" LCD, got the back off and 2 caps are bulging. A trip to Maplins and this is back on the wall. Thanks very much.
Awesome instructions man. Thanks for the detailed HOW-TO. Your helper rocked too!
I think if you had a high end soldering iron and good wire wick it would be your preferred method.
you are the best! Thanks for taking the time to share- our warranty company and Samsung would not help us, but you did!
Thank you so much for the info! This helped me fix my 42 Samsung LCD TV. In addition to powering on and off it was doing the rainbow screen. 4 capacitor replacements later, its as good as new. BTW, on another board I found a suggestion to replace the 10V capacitors with 16V capacitors (which I did) to reduce the likelihood of this happening again.
nearly 35000 views
i'm thinking 80% of us having the same problem
very helpful vids, thanks alot !
Great help mate. I have a similar clicking problem, but my TV could still turn on and stay on. I'll change those capacitors this week.
in less than an hour and a half I took the TV down, back off, went to The Shack, bought soldering iron, and 4 capacitors came home replaced them put it back together and boom goes the dynamite it work better than new!!!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $26.00!!!
Man you have a great film crew every repair is done with love. Yeahhhhh
Milo is the man. awesome tv repair video.you make it so easy even a caveman could do it. fixed my samsung tv. works great now.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Thanks! This helped a lot. I got my Samsung LCD TV repaired for less than $20 and it works like new! Great!
hey thanks : ) This video tutorial helped a lot and made it possible for me to repair my lcd tv.
Thanks so much. I also got them at Radio Shack for just 1.59 a piece. Replacement was easy with the help of this video. Cheers!
Great work! All it takes is a steady hand and a little determination, I knew you could do it! Have fun with your extra money.
Thanks a lot dude, ive been dying to get my 42" up in my bedroom, looks like i'll be taking a trip to the electronics store tomorrow :D
My Philips TV 42" has a similar problem, but with erratic turn on-off control with the red led either off, or on vanishing after a few seconds (a capacitor that can hold the charge?). I am almost sure that this video will help me out in a course of action. The only I pray for is that the caps show "visible" damage.
Your son made it more realistic in my case. Thanks for taking the time.
Shame on Samsung for all this--there should have been a recall.
are your 35 volt caps still working ok?
that is what I had to buy at radio shack as well.
scared to use them..
thanks,
jp
I'm going to buy a 550 series tomorrow.. I'm glad I found this video incase I run into this problem! good work!
