if we all saw the trailer with this,we can confirm that this is better then ethe final version and this is scarier, more terryfying and voice acting.this is the version of hello neighbor we all wanted.
I love the idea of having to change light bulbs to be able to see in some rooms, something that sadly never made it into the final game. It could have been cool to have a UV bulb as well, where when you screwed it into the socket, it showed hidden clues or codes on the walls, sort of like in the Pre-Alpha, accept it would actually screw into a ceiling fixture or sconce, and show the whole room.
As far as I know the prototype was never a actual build/playable game. Everything in it was scripted and it was never meant for anything other than a trailer.
This is what made early hello neighbor so good. It was so much darker and so ambiguous. It had a good style being cartoony but was still scary nonetheless with the atmosphere, chase music, and the overall lack of knowing. I still personally like the final game but it’s nowhere near as good as the early hello neighbor alphas. Having the neighbor be some random dude that was very sinister with the 666 on his shoes, the screams of a mother and child in his basement. It was all so good and they changed it for a light hearted, broken man not kidnapping anyone, rather just an overprotective father. Having the neighbor be mysterious with sinister intentions just made him 10x scarier. That’s what drew everyone in and made the game popular at the time. Not knowing what, who, and why this guy was doing these things. The originals where ambiguous with little hints and weird things in his house that tbh didn’t make sense like the upside down room in the pre-alpha, or the weird paintings of the neighbor and another man recreating a painting of Judas and Jesus or the hello neighbor image of him holding the book Faust . It would have the community try to connect the dots. And having the hints be scary sinister and at first satanic. The most appealing and scariest thing in video games, movies, books, life, even everything in general, is the art of not knowing. But it’s too bad,it never came to fruition, really would’ve loved to know how the full game would’ve turned out had they fleshed out their original idea and not made the story kid friendly.

@jumpjack7141on Nintendo switch it’s 50 dollars for shit’s sake. And the art style from the prototype to Alpha 2 was amazing, especially compared to the shitty polygonal, abstract objects of the full game.
Ok so I'm going on a Hello Neighbor nostalgia trip and this fangame's ending where you're on the country road with the nightmarish music and the broken down utility pole is based off an actual iteration of the story they had planned in the early stages of the game(you can even see this road on some old screenshots of the game). It goes something like this, the protagonist is driving on a road and utility pole falls on their car. They fall into a coma due to the impact and the neighbor pulls up in his car and grabs the protag and puts them in his trunk and drives off. The entire game would've been a dream until you wake up and realize you're dead(not sure if this is true but I think the neighbor would've buried you alive hence why the early builds and concept art emphasized this). Here's a link to an explanation + story board of the story: hello-neighbor.fandom.com/wiki/Scrapped_Storylines#Prototype_-_Alpha_1:_The_Coma And here's a link to the old teaser of the game where you can see the crash happen: ua-cam.com/video/i6nBPauHc0g/v-deo.html I think it's a pretty cool concept and you could've still hide clues as to what happened to the neighbor's family or they could've done the whole satanist thing they had going on with the neighbor. Point is this isn't just something the dev came up with, it's what was planned to be the story at one point.
