Trying to remember what their first release was here -- New York Mining Disaster maybe? Robin's voice stopped me in my tracks. Then they had hit after hit after hit off that first album.
Y'all are so sweet. That was Robin's unique vibrato voice at the beginning!! They recorded this when they got back together after their break up in 1969!!

He always wears a hat so I thought it would be a great gift. 😁 I like this lovely couple but we have to make sure they know about Rob and Mo! Too many think the Bee Gees was just Barry. It was Barry’s brother Robin who opened the song. You can hear more of Robin’s distinctive voice in their breakthrough hit of 1968,”Massachusetts”. He sadly passed away in 2012 and is buried in our local town of Thame ( pronounced Tame) Oxfordshire, England. The BeeGees’ music runs a thread through my music awakening in the early sixties to this day . Keep doing what you are doing. Loving you’re hair Amber🇬🇧
I love Robin's voice - it always sounds so emotional to me, so tender and sensitive. Every time I hear him sing "I Started a Joke" I miss him all over again.
For FEMALE FRIDAY: Carole King is a must!! Her album Tapestry was in the top charts for over 6 years!!! Try “It’s Too Late” or “I Feel The Earth Move”. Carole co-wrote over 130 top 40 hits in the 60s with her ex husband Gerry Goffin. Her song “You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman” is considered one of Aretha Franklin’s greatest hits, and “You’ve Got A Friend” is one of James Taylor’s biggest hits. Both are on Tapestry.
Preach it Brother! In 1972 Tapestry was the #1 Album, it was Album of the year, The track "It's Too Late" was Record of the year and You've got a Friend was Song of the Year and Carole was best performance by a female artist. Tapestry went 13 times Platinum and sold more that 25 million copies world wide. I don't know why we haven't heard a reaction to Carole. It's a mystery!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were known for more than just disco. They had some amazing ballads in the 60's & 70's. This song went to #1 for 4 weeks in 1971, the year I was born . 😁
Their first hit song was "New York mining disaster 1941" in 1967. They kind of accidentally Invented disco. They wanted a new upbeat sound that people could dance to. The movie "Saturday Night Fever" created Disco using their songs. I love all the BEE GEES before ,after, and during the Disco period. I was born in 1955.
They didn’t create disco, it actually started a few years earlier, but after the success of the movie they really popularized it more. In 1978 disco hit its peak and pretty much died by early 1980.
Robin & Barry are trading vocals on this one. Robin’s voice is one of the most distinct in popular music. It takes a while to get accustomed to it, but once it takes, it seeps into your soul.
When we were little, we'd imitate Robin by pinching the skin on our neck and shaking it to get the vibrato thing happening. LOLOL We were so fortunate to have their music to listen to when growing up.
@Thundernel .....Regarding your last sentence that suggests Robin's voice requires getting accustomed to in order to like, and then it "seeps" into your soul... may give people reason to anticipate difficulty appreciating what Robin offers. Many recognize and appreciate Robin from the start when they can hear him featured. It didn't take a "seeping" effect for me and a million
Robin had a very unique voice, I must asmit that I didn't care it as much when I first heard him so you might have a point maybe because his voice is so different, though I'm sure many love his voice immudiatly too. I like that with Ber Gees you can really hear it's them no matter if they sing with a falsetto or not.
My Dad died when I was 3. My Mom played this on the piano for as long as she could the rest of her life. She died at 99. Daddy died at 35. Lot of years of a broken heart. She never remarried.
Once I got used to hearing Robin singing, after hearing a few songs where he sang lead, I decided that I his is my favorite of the three voices. Barry sounds great, but Robin pulls you right into how he’s feeling as he’s singing.
Funny but Robin’s voice really grates on me. That extreme vibrato that he always sang with and sometimes a little off-key is just irritating to me. Lucky we don’t all like exactly the same thing eh!
BeeGees for the win on this one, lol! Mainly because it’s their song- and the beautiful harmonies give the song a fullness and richness that can only be achieved with a trio of brothers!
I completely agree 110% Also because this is the song that Robin and Barry wrote together when they were mending their broken hearts over the split up and their differences so it's just not just their song it's their song over their break up and getting back together his brothers come on they win
@@angelarasmussen1800Actually this song had most been written by Barry, before Robin got there. That's why Barry offered for him to sing the first verse, plus shared writing credit.
Just to be clear: This is a Bee Gees song that Al Green later covered. If you're going to delve into early Bee Gees, here are a few must-listens: "Words," "To Love Somebody," "Massachusetts," "Lonely Days," to name a few. To some of us, their pre-Saturday Night Fever stuff is SO much better! The voice singing lead at the beginning of this song is Robin (the one on the left in the album cover seen in the image on screen). There are parts that Barry sings lead. To hear Al Green at his best, listen to him doing "Let's Stay Together." One of the greatest R&B songs ever recorded. Classic.
This came out in 1971 and why you HAVE to listen to the Bee Gees from the 60's. The 60's songs sound more like this, what you've listened to so far from the Bee Gee's is Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The beginning is sung by Robin, and why I feel you should listen to Robin on lead, in songs like "Massachusetts", "I Started a Joke", "New York Mining Disaster 1941", and "I've Got to Get a Message To You", to name a few. Suggestion for 1 song sang by 2 different artist , try "Kiss" written and preformed by Prince, then covered by Tom Jones. You can't pick a favorite.
Yes, yes, yes and yes! I think all those songs were all on one album, their first US release. I remember being blown away. Wasn't New York Mining Disaster their first single here, with a whole lot of radio play. Disco BeeGees pale by comparison to Early BeeGees. To Love Somebody, Words . . . is there another group or single person who's had a comparable career spanning decades, who've written so many songs -- for themselves and so many others? And who can move you to tears with those voices?
@@sometimeslyrical - Barry's voice doesn't melt me, especially the falsetto and the "whisper. Just doesn't do it for me. His normal voice is OK. Robin's is inimitable.
Best part of the reaction by far: the song opens with Robin on vocals and both J and Amber have a total “WTF” look on their faces. Classic Yeah Robin can sound like Johnny Mathis having a seizure :)
If you want to hear Barry's natural singing voice then you should listen to "Nights on Broadway" from The Midnight Special. "I Started a Joke" showcases Robin's voice. For another awesome song, you should listen to "For Whom the Bell Tolls" 1993 in New York. I don't think I've seen this one requested on any reaction channel. Love to you and the kids.
I agree. "I Started A Joke" to showcase Robins vocals. "Nights On Broadway" is said to be the first time Barry used the falsetto. He said they wanted a scream or something, so he tried it. And that was so popular that it became his signature style.
Yes, I can't believe you haven't done "Nights on Broadway" yet. In my mind, it's the quintessential Bee Gee's song, as it sits at the inflection point of their career, with equal elements of their early ballad-biased work and their later disco sound. You get a good dose of Robin's unique voice, Barry's natural "husky" sound, the prototypical Bee Gees harmony, along with a taste of Barry's first foray into his falsetto.
So, when I discovered reaction videos (my crystal meth) the hardest part was finding people who went into this with an open mind, an open heart and no preconceived opinions. It was hard to find them. I then stumbled upon you two. You remind me so much of what I have tried for the last 40 years to instill into my kids. Without ever meeting them, I know, both of your parents are my kind of people!! We need so much more of kids like you in this world, especially today. I am a 55 year old, long haired, tattooed, southern conservative who has everyone from Etta James to Pantera on the same play list. I subscribed to your channel in the beginning to see and hear your reactions. Now I tune in to get that burst of hopefulness, that the world still has hope of coming together again. Never think that what you do is only reaction videos!! You bring a light to your parents, hope to a grumpy old man from the south and in your own way a brightness to "our" future. Thanks guys!!
I have a daughter in her 30s and she is so old school… It’s because she has a mom that’s 73! She’ll play this stuff before she plays anything from her time. She keeps telling me how the great music from the past is better than the present!
Now that you've gotten a taste of Robin Gibb's unique voice, you should listen to his signature tune, "I started a joke" from 1968. The original version was a top ten hit late in 1968 and will hit you like a ton of bricks when you hear it for the first time.
IIRC Robin used to sing lead on all of the early songs. I always felt The Bee Gees had three distinct careers. The first, and IMO the best was pop rock. The second, and again IMO the worst was the Disco phase. The final, and the one where Barry was elevated to the lead was the Love Ballad phase.
@@ritajacobsen40 - Robin requested that song to be played at his funeral. It really was a deep spiritual sound about how you fit into the world and how the world sees you. Written by Robin.
The nostalgia is a real factor. I grew up on the BeeGee's version - I appreciate Al Green's version, but for me, this will always be the version I think of. :)
Maurice instinctively knew (no training!) how to add his voice to the three-part harmony and give it that magical quality. A fantastic example of their slow build in harmony is in "Run to Me" -- once Maurice joins, it is just sublime. Would you guys please react to that one? Aside from being a gorgeous song, it is a clear showcase of the voices of all three of them. (Here's a link to a recommended video for that song: ua-cam.com/video/Sub0O2r76Nw/v-deo.html)
I find it amazing that when you react to these old songs, all the words come out of my mouth. Can’t believe I can actually remember the words to so many old songs. It’s like they are written in my heart.
I’m one of those people, who can sing every word, when I’m hearing the song.As soon as it stops, and I try to sing it,I forget a lot of the words,or I get the verses the wrong way round.🤭
The Bee Gees had a long string of hits before they started with R&B and Disco. Songs like "I Gotta Get a Message to You" "Words" "Run to Me" "My World" "Massachusetts" "To Love Somebody" and many more. The lyrics to "I Gotta Get a Message to You" are particularly haunting.
Pre-disco BeeGees, the best BeeGees by far!! "Run to Me", "To Love Somebody", "Be Tender With my Love", "Words", "I Started a Joke", even "Jive Talking". The voice starting the song is Robin's, with his natural vibrato. He's featured much more in their early stuff. If all you've heard is disco-era BeeGees, you haven't really heard the BeeGees.
You two have know idea how far down the rabbit hole you can go with the Brothers Gibb they have been singing together since they were kids. Love this song. Keep the positive vibes flowing, love your channel.
Great choice.Robin took the lead,he has a natural vibratto in his voice..Barry sounds great. The harmonies.Wow.This song was special for the BeeGees, because they were getting back together.Just trying to mend the group ,their brotherhood ,and love for each other.. Looking good Amber.
Yes Robyn started it out , then Barry kicked in ! All three brothers plus the other brother Andy had great falcettos! They’re Harmonies are some of the Best Ever, because they can all sing ! Barry’s voice is phenomenal but I really liked Robyn’s unique vocals! Thank you, and by the way they wrote a ton of songs for other artists!
Andy wasn't in the Brothers Gibb. He had a short solo career & sang with them as well. Tragically died at 30 of a heart attack. It was a shock. Only Barry is left now. RIP 🙏✌🌻🌻
@@chuckbeecher2099 - They were older, not at their peak for "One Night Only". I didn't like that concert. "The All for one" concert in Melbourne in 1989 was much better IMO.
@@laurafowler1142 I saw him in concert at the Paramount theater in Seattle shortly before he died. It was phenomenal!! He only sang for an hour. The review in the paper the next day said "An hour of Roy Orbison is worth two hours of anybody else".
Here's an idea. Two of your favorites. Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers sang "Islands in the Stream" as a duet together. And the song was written by... The Bee Gees 😉
I told you there was more to them! Now, please do “.To Love Somebody”, from 1967. They will amaze you again with their harmony!! BTW, that is Robin on lead vocals in this.
The song starts with Robin signing. There is a video with Barry singing this song, after both Robin and Maurice had passed away. Talk about a tear jerker. Barry is barely making it through tht song, without his little brothers singing with him.
One of their HUGE pre-disco era hits, and one of their absolute best songs. This is the original version, Al Green's was a cover. Robin opens the lead vocals on this one, and he is known for his amazing vibrato (it's NOT called shakiness, it's an actual vocal skill that is VERY hard to master).
@@beedeegee9374 - Yes it is. You can see who is singing what part. Grew up with these guys. Born the same day as the twins, Dec. 22, 1949...which means I'm old!
You don’t know what you don’t know! Don’t feel silly:) I agree, you shouldn’t have to pick one over the other. They both bring us such a great gift. This one is my personal favorite and probably because this is the one I’ve always heard.
Robin was my favorite Bee Gee. Loved his voice at beginning of this song Anytime I'd listen to them, I could pick out his voice from among the brothers, but it took lots of listening, lots of practice. Love to hear Robin's voice on Mining Disaster, also !
You should definitely do more early Bee Gees. Robins voice is beautiful, the one singing at the beginning, it grabs on to you and makes your heart ache, in a good way! You should do “I Started A Joke” or “Massachusetts” both are Robin leads.
Thank You!!! This is where I fell in love with The Bee Gees when I was young!! This one and check out RUN TO ME!! My second favorite BGs!! Try Nights on Broadway as well, another favorite!!!
YES, pre-disco Bee Gees, when they still were close to their pop rock roots. They were awesome before the sell-out. Try Massachusetts, To Love Somebody and I've Got to Get a Message To You. Enjoy! 🎸
Why do people always want to say an artist is selling out for making music that everyone loves. So weird. They wrote so much and covered so many generas, they're musical geniuses. They know exactly what's appealing to the ear and do that over and over and over again.
This was before Barry “discovered” his falsetto. I missed hearing his natural voice.. dive into early Bee Gees, like Words,I’ve Gotta Get A Message To You
Some would say falsetto is his natural voice lol. You can see how hard he had to work on those earlier songs, but when he is in falsetto he looks so at ease (btw, I love his deeper registrar more)
Actually Robin is the ONLY BROTHER with vibrato and it is something you have or don't have. It is controlled by the central nervous system on the vocal chords and is a rapid fire alteration in PITCH like AC current. He can go from A to A# to A to A# to A in a millisecond and doesn't even try to. It's natural. Barry uses tremolo which is singing a note in a single pitch but varying VOLUME. They are totally different but can be mistaken for the same thing. Tremolo can be learned. Vibrato cannot be learned. All three could sing falsetto, "false voice", which is singing unnaturally high above tenor for a man. Yes, Barry said Robin had a gift and it took him no effort to sing like he did. Many singers copy Barry's falsetto and tremolo by his own admission but nobody can cover Robin's iconic leads and avoid trying.
@@susieq9801 interesting... whether you can develop it or not seems debatable. A simple search around shows classes and trainng to develop it if you don't have it (easier when younger of course.)
@@trinkab - It is "debatable" I suppose but any debate can go both ways, aye or nay. A pure natural vibrato is a gift in the opinion of many who analyze voice. Barry said Robin had it with no effort at all. I don't believe Barry ever claimed to have vibrato in his own voice. Never heard it in Maurice's or Andy's voices either although both had lovely voices. Someone who consciously attempts to learn it will never have the same quality as someone with a pure natural vibrato. I can't carry a tune in a bucket and no amount of voice lessons will ever make me Linda Ronstadt. I wish! Just like taking guitar lessons won't make everyone Eric Clapton. 😁
The Bee Gees are the only group that I love every song! I like some of everyone else. Thank you SO MUCH for listening to them with an open mind. They wrote and recorded over a thousand songs, so you have a lot of delight coming your way! 💜👏🤗
As a huge Bee Gees fan, I think your ultimate reaction should be to react to the entire "One Night Only" concert. Even if you had to split the reaction into 2 or 3 videos. I would love to see your reaction & I'm sure many followers would too. You would love that concert.
Omg…”I started a joke” is one of my favorite 60’s songs, but because it’s so different from their usual music (folk as opposed to pop) that I never connected the two
I am really happy that you did a reaction to this song.... this was a treat . As a Gen X is it really great to see our younger generations appreciating music from our time and before . You two have such a great time with a very eclectic range of music it is amazing and I appreciate your channel very much. Thank you for this .
A true Bee Gee original written after their 18-month breakup not long after they became popular. It was about a deep brotherly love and it was hard but they came back.
Robin Gibbs vocals stood out even in the Bee gees Harmony. There's two terms you can apply to his style of singing, vibrato or, tremolo. Which is a very fast repetition of a single note to produce shivering and a shaking effect. Robin does it effortlessly. It sounds as if he's singing in front of a slow spinning fan. Other songs that feature his unique vibrato are, I've got to get a message to you, I started a joke, odessa, lamp light, saved by the bell, and my favorite by Robin, Massachusetts.
@@sometimeslyrical Absolutely. Massachusetts is in the running for my all-time fave of the Bee Gees. I was always able to sing a lot like Robin and love singing Massachusetts and I Started A Joke at karaoke.

for a little different take, Michael McDonald did a cover of Tell It Like It Is that is SO SEXY! ...and the orchestration is gorgeous, especially the sax!
That amazing voice at the beginning was Robins beautiful and unique voice. I recommend you watch this live. You will love and appreciate it. I also love Al Green but this is The Bee Gees song. They wrote it sang it and made it a hit!
They were icons of the Disco era but their songs are timeless and cut across genres. They were so much more than just Disco! Beautiful songs by incredible song writers that were covered by people like Green but also, Hank Williams Jr and many others!
Whenever I request BeeGees I ALWAYS ask Pre-Disco! Each song was so unique, but with Disco, they all seemed to have the same beat. Words is still my all time fav, followed by I started a Joke. And Holiday. Holiday is Awesome!
This is not a cover: Released in 1971, “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart” was the lead single on the Bee Gees album Trafalgar. Primarily written by Barry and Robin, this song was the band's first U.S. number one hit!
In 1971 (I was 16) my first love broke up with me and I was devastated. Then this song came out and played in the the top 40 and I cried everytime I heard it. This song just killed me BUT I love it and the Bee Gees. Just love you guys.
There are several songs where Barry is not the lead singer. Great songs with Robin as lead: I Started a Joke and Alone. Great songs with Maurice as lead singer: Closer Than Close and Walking On Air. All 3 of them are so amazing!
Solo vocals on this was Robin, He sang a lot of the lead vocals in the 60's. This was my favourite BeeGees period, pre disco. You should check it out, 'Spicks and Specks', 'Words', 'Run To Me', ''To Love Somebody', 'I Started A Joke' are all amazing songs that will show you a different side of them. Love your work guys, thank you.
Robin leads with the first two lines of the song. The rest is Barry. Barry starts at "and...how can you" Of course, the blended parts were all three brothers. I love Robin's voice. Always my fav Bee Gee Brother. His voice is haunting, sad, full of hope and soulful all at the same time. Some others he takes a lead on that are amazing: New York Mining Disaster 1941, Massachusetts, I started a Joke.
Actually, this song had been mostly written by Barry before Robin got there. Hence, that's why he offered for Robin to sing the first verse. Plus gave him songwriting credit!
Kathy here - late to the party finding this one. Yes, I love the Bee Gees and love both of you guys so much and the reactions you give us. And yes, Robin had the initial lead on this one. He has an amazing voice and Barry's, well, he's Barry! LOL Barry is just the one who mainly sings lead, but you can't count out Robin. But then put them all 3 together, magic! Thanks again!
The Harmonies. OMG, their harmonies. You can feel them in your soul. Great reaction guys. I didn't see To Love Somebody on your list, maybe I missed it but if you have not, you must. It is ridiculous.
The first voice you heard was Robin. He's the clean-shaven brother in the picture behind you, and Maurice's twin. His unique voice did have quite a bit of vibrato. You can never go wrong with a Bee Gees song! Thisone is one of my very favorites. Thanks for the reaction!
The brothers didn't realize what Barry was capable of, vocally, for years. They had an entire career before they did learn and that's when the R&B/Disco career began. I can't remember if you guys have done Marc Cohn - Walking in Memphis, but the Reverend Green mentioned in the song is Al Green.
I think they knew what each of them could do. They'd sung together since they were little. Someone just decided to bank on a different sound coming from Barry and put more focus on his conventional good looks to hang on to success as they moved into the new decade and the catchy rhythms of the disco era. Those just discovering The Bee Gees at this time and only hearing the harmonies and Barry's falsetto didn't have much opportunity to hear Robin and the incredible beauty and uniqueness of his lead vocals, and he became just one of the "other brothers" who too often remained nameless at the side of Barry. It's sad that it became only a "Barry" thing... when each of the brothers had/have so much to offer listeners.
Their most beautiful, hands down... odd meter... gorgeous major 7th chord beginning chorus... their harmonies so heart breaking... the strings all add up to a pop masterpiece
Great to see you young people appreciating The Bee Gees!!! They ARE the very best!! All 3 brothers have very different, but gorgeous voices! Keep listening. The 80's 90's 2000's are also phenominal. Check out the Still Waters album.
Robin had a unique voice with that tremolo, yet when they sang together, his voice didn't stick out. The advantage of being brothers, is part of it, but there's a different technique to singing a solo compared to singing with others. I think it was Barry from the first chorus on. I love both voices. The falsetto thing didn't start until the late 70s. I think "Nights on Broadway" was the first time Barry tried it.
This song encapsulates everything I adore about the Bee Gees. There are songs I describe as songs of the summers of my life. Here is one of the classics.. so many memories if driving early on a warm summer evening to see my first crush. Just soul touching...how can you mend a broken heart????

Once I got used to hearing Robin singing, after hearing a few songs where he sang lead, I decided that I his is my favorite of the three voices. Barry sounds great, but Robin pulls you right into how he’s feeling as he’s singing.
I think that Barry sang most of the song, robin only sang some of it, and some other parts were a mix of barry and robin.
I think they all 3 have their strengths and beautiful voices but Robin's voice caught me when I was 11 and I've been hooked ever since.
Funny but Robin’s voice really grates on me. That extreme vibrato that he always sang with and sometimes a little off-key is just irritating to me.
Lucky we don’t all like exactly the same thing eh!
Yes, Robin is my favourite, too.
Robin's voice seems to convey a lot of emotion.
BeeGees for the win on this one, lol! Mainly because it’s their song- and the beautiful harmonies give the song a fullness and richness that can only be achieved with a trio of brothers!
I completely agree 110%
Also because this is the song that Robin and Barry wrote together when they were mending their broken hearts over the split up and their differences so it's just not just their song it's their song over their break up and getting back together his brothers come on they win
Classic.
Words is the best in my opinion. Love those ore disco ones!
You are so right! I love to lay back and listen to the early days of The Bee Gees.
New York Mining Disaster 1941
Love lets stay together by al green
"To Love Somebody" is my all time favorite Bee Gees song! Love It!!!
Robin was so underrated.
Hauntingly beautiful song.
Best thing about these boys?
No auto tune needed.
Just pure talent with lots of effort
That was Robin in the beginning. He has a very unique voice!
@@jaynemorin747 Unique. You can’t have a very unique anything. It either is or isn’t, it can’t be qualified.
Robin started the song with his beautiful vibrato voice.
Barry comes in with "aaaannnddd" to melt the girls.
Robin always melted me since I first heard them in 1967!
Barry's voice doesn't melt all the girls. We aren't all the same.
@@sometimeslyrical - Barry's voice doesn't melt me, especially the falsetto and the "whisper. Just doesn't do it for me. His normal voice is OK. Robin's is inimitable.

Barry definitely melts me, he could melt an iceberg in my opinion.
Best part of the reaction by far: the song opens with Robin on vocals and both J and Amber have a total “WTF” look on their faces.

Yeah Robin can sound like Johnny Mathis having a seizure :)
Two completely different versions ,but that was not the best AL Green erosion try the studio version.

Barry said that Al Green's cover of this song is his favorite cover
Some of greatest harmonies ever! Their voices are like instruments! STUNNING!
Nights on Broadway is my favorite of their songs after "How Deep Is Your Love."
I've actually seen "For Whom the Bell Tolls" 1993 in New York reacted to on two different reaction channels, Asia and BJ and, also, Dani Atkinson.
@@karis_H.2000 Thank you. I need to check them out.

Now that you've gotten a taste of Robin Gibb's unique voice, you should listen to his signature tune, "I started a joke" from 1968. The original version was a top ten hit late in 1968 and will hit you like a ton of bricks when you hear it for the first time.
He’s outstanding in that one. Just so distinctive.
I started a Joke is one of my favorite songs of theirs and for sure my favorite from the early days.
I agree but don't watch the lyrics video. Having the visual effects is unique
You stole my words! I just love that song. Hope they react to it sooooon!!
The Pet Shop Boys did a cover of ISAJ as a tribute to Robin Gibb. Different but heartfelt.
“How Can You Mend A Broken Heart” was the Bee Gee's first million-selling single in America!
Oh my word. Their whole catalogue is nothing but gems. Their earlier stuff is as good as anything they do
That was Robin at the beginning
IIRC Robin used to sing lead on all of the early songs. I always felt The Bee Gees had three distinct careers. The first, and IMO the best was pop rock. The second, and again IMO the worst was the Disco phase. The final, and the one where Barry was elevated to the lead was the Love Ballad phase.
@@komments - NOBODY sang a ballad like Robin!
Best Robin song: I Started a Joke.
Great suggestion!
I agree 100% - I suggested I Started a Joke months ago. One of my favorite early Bee Gees songs.
Agree totally.
My favorite song by the BeeGees!!!
Same. I grew up on both BeeGees and Al Green but for this song it was always the Bros Gibb so they win all the nostalgia points!
Always
Same for me....I still have the song on a tape cassette (right from the stone age) !
same same al jsut cant come up to these three
I really love Rev. Al's version way better....
Poor Maurice...Nobody mention him...😢 He was as well part of that wonderful harmony...
I loved him 😢
Sooooo true,a true sweet sole💗😘🥰
Mo could really sing, but he believed that Barry and Robin were the superior singers so he never really pushed to showcase himself.
Mo was my favorite
I find it amazing that when you react to these old songs, all the words come out of my mouth. Can’t believe I can actually remember the words to so many old songs. It’s like they are written in my heart.
I’m one of those people, who can sing every word, when I’m hearing the song.As soon as it stops, and I try to sing it,I forget a lot of the words,or I get the verses the wrong way round.🤭
Yep, that happens sometimes. Very irritating! Lol!
"Written in my heart" love that great comment

They are written on our heart.
Completely agree with your list above. Jay and Amber need to listen to every one of those BeeGees pre-disco beauties
"Words" gets me in the feels.

Robin only sings the 1st verse.
Robins voice is stunning and haunting. I love him. Barry isn't the only one who sings. The WHOLE family sings. Go Bee Gees.❤❤❤
Though Barry's voice was easier on the ears & most versatile!
The song starts with Robin signing. There is a video with Barry singing this song, after both Robin and Maurice had passed away. Talk about a tear jerker. Barry is barely making it through tht song, without his little brothers singing with him.
Oh wow I don't think I can watch that😢
One of their HUGE pre-disco era hits, and one of their absolute best songs. This is the original version, Al Green's was a cover. Robin opens the lead vocals on this one, and he is known for his amazing vibrato (it's NOT called shakiness, it's an actual vocal skill that is VERY hard to master).

Also, what artists wants to stick to one genera forever? That would be boring, the opposite of what having an artist heart is.
And "words", one of my faves.
@@charmallory5905 To Love Somebody is my fave, but Words is wonderful too!

AL Green did such a unique cover of the Bee Gees song that you're right it doesn't even seem like the same song.
Robin started the song. He actually does the higher vocals in the harmony. He sings several as lead. Every one of brothers have a great voice.
This was before Barry “discovered” his falsetto. I missed hearing his natural voice.. dive into early Bee Gees, like Words,I’ve Gotta Get A Message To You
Some would say falsetto is his natural voice lol. You can see how hard he had to work on those earlier songs, but when he is in falsetto he looks so at ease (btw, I love his deeper registrar more)
The "shakiness" in the voice is called vibrato. "Vy-brah-toh" and all the Gibbs Bros. do it beautifully!
None as good as Robins vibrato , Barry will tell you that
Actually Robin is the ONLY BROTHER with vibrato and it is something you have or don't have.

A true Bee Gee original written after their 18-month breakup not long after they became popular. It was about a deep brotherly love and it was hard but they came back.
The harmony is heavenly.

Some others he takes a lead on that are amazing: New York Mining Disaster 1941, Massachusetts, I started a Joke.
They wrote the song after they broke up. The break up was very difficult for them, as they are brothers.
Actually, written when they first got back together after the 18(?) month breakup. They wrote Lonely Days the same weekend.
Yes, he discovered his falsetto during the disco days
Their most beautiful, hands down... odd meter... gorgeous major 7th chord beginning chorus... their harmonies so heart breaking... the strings all add up to a pop masterpiece
Incredible song writing and sung with so much soul and heart.

Yes!!!!! This is the earlier BeeGees I loved! Robin's voice was so unique. My favorite has always been "I Started A Joke" which was also Robin's lead.
The BeeGees early stuff is fantastic, they started as children so the catalog of music is huge.
