Learn how to do a roundhouse kick from karate instructor Richard Amos in this Howcast video.
The roundhouse kick of (?) karate is called (?). And as the name suggests, it comes around and hits the target to the side. When we're developing it with our basics, we're going to hit with the ball of the foot. During sparring with our partners in the dojo, we use the top of the foot. It's a little bit less dangerous, because you can slap a little bit without too much damage. Whereas the ball of the foot, anywhere here, is going to be extremely penetrative and dangerous.
Also in competition, it gives a little bit more reach. It's probably the most common kick in competition, because it lends itself well to a slight variation. For example, you can come a little bit straighter, and then flick it around on the end. And the legs are so strong that a little flick has a great effect. In streets however, I'd kick much lower. And I'd use the ball of the foot. If you're wearing shoes, of course, you're going to hit with the tip of the foot.
But in karate practice, generally, basically, we're going to do the ball of the foot. Like (?), where you want to squeeze it up this way, we're going to squeeze it as close as we can to the side. So obviously that's going to involve not so much your stomach, but your obliques. Your hip is going to turn to hit the target this way. So if you don't turn your hip, you're going to swing your foot across. That's neither here nor there. There is a crescent kick, but that's tricky to apply. (?) really requires a huge rotation of the hip.
And like other techniques, you have the feeling that you're actually going to make contact with your hip. And you've got a leg on the end of it. So be careful of striking first, and then flicking your foot on the end. Which will only work if the timing's right. If the opponent moves in a certain way, you hang back, and flick at the end. But when you're building your basic pure form, you really want to bring the leg around as a unit. With the whole body. So make contact at the end. And the feeling is you've actually hit with the hip.
So this is (?), the round kick, (?), of (?) karate. - Спорт
Sensei Amos, is one of the most respected Karate Masters in the world. He is a great inspiration to many
traditional Martial Artists worldwide, inkluding myself :)
Pal, he is a graduate of the 3 year instructor course at the JKA headquarters in Tokyo. He has been slugging it out with the likes of Kagawa, Yamaguchi, and Yahara sensei. I´d love to see you try him out in kumite.
Got to love our youtube keyboard warriors.... big virtual mouth, but no clue.
This guy was bullying me and he tried to hit me than I done a roundhouse kick and knocked him out
Jason Caporn good one. don't let any1 pick on you
+FirinBullets Kold So how'd it go down in court?
+Flamer Gamer101 lol

My friend got it on record but the footage got deleted
this is my favorite kick, always scoring sambon with this
That is the way of doing round kick which I practice in 3 impact point: ball, in-step, and shin. But I use a shoes to practice kicking the round kick with the tip of the shoe as impact point, and only hit at the above-waist area to probably git the floating ribs or the kidney or when the opponent is on side view to hit at the bladder area.
I’m trying to teach my cousin karate and these tutorials are really helpful so thank you for making these tutorials
Shotokan, Mawashi Geri, Mae Geri, Mawashi Geri again, Mawashi Geri again, kiai (short yell let out when making an attacking move), Shotokan again.
Those are the words that were left off the description in case anyone was wondering.
My son and I both do shotokan karate, and I have once trained with Richard Amos.
hey, I trained in shotokan karate.
thanks
''In the streets I kick much lower''... Does this guy go out and just go jackie chan on people outside his house?
Anyone know what dan grade he is and what type of charcter he is doing?
He sounds hilarious when he shouts
Ben Ridler that’s rude don’t say that yours is maybe worst
Ayyyyye
I have taken shotokan back when I was in highschool and remember being instructed like this to do a roundhouse kick in Shotokan, -lifting the leg as paralell as possible. I am currently taking Krav maga and see some variants on it -as in the Muay Thai way and a taekwondo way? The Muay Thai way seems to focus more by making contact with the shin and not pulling the leg back -going all around -Taekwondo -I have seen rapid roundhouse kicks and are generally aimed higher. How different is the taekwondo kick from the karate kick in it's basic form?
+E Loiterman They're similar but the approach is different...tkd tends to raise the knee in front of them & then turn 90 degrees and kick. Karate is more technical because they're focused on basic form.
Also TKD is more sport focused so kicks in TKD are snappier and considerably high. Where as with Karate we are taught to keep our kicks low as if we kick too high we end up losing balance and be exposed for a counter attack (which had happened to me once or twice during sparring).
Keeping kicks low makes your leg retract quicker and retain your guard.
+MrMattias87 Depends, in karate you can kick thrusting or snaping and a thrust kick with the shin looks exactly like a mt one, idk about tk
i thought mawashi geri is hitting with the instep ? hit with the ball of the foot ? what if u hit with your toes accidentally , that hurts .
Yesterday was my karate tournament used this trick & then a tornado kick & knocked him off
Abhi pandey Congrats,did u win?
I always (mostly) win my TOURTAMENTS
great lesson odd music
You showed a 90 roundhouse at first, with improper rotation, then you ended with a 45 roundhouse..... Did you look the footage over, edit it, or review it in any way before submitting it? 45 is nice, it's fast when done correctly (which you didn't, yours is uber slow), but Mawashi Geri is a 90 degree roundhouse thrown with full hip rotation that stops a little after hitting the target and snaps back to the ready stance.
I'm starting to believe 'How Cast' is just 'Expert Village' with a different logo. Please either screen your experts better, or require them to look over their videos before submitting them.
