I love watching such great artists work. Its not really any different than the work I do with my local company. We might not be the best in the world like the artists here, but our dedication in being the best we in service to the music is the same. My favorite part of singing is not the performance...its the rehearsal process. Getting the role into the voice, blending the voice with other artists, and working with talented coached and conductors to become a better artist.

That's Kathleen Battle? Where is the diva she subsequently became? So sad. She is such a wonderful coloratura. Those stratospheric notes come so easily to her. And Jessye's a goddess. So many wonderful stars in this production!

Due to my many years - 50+- in "show biz" I have strong thoughts/opinions on Ms. Battles challenges. I won't go into it here as I detest UA-cam comments wars. Bad behavior is rarely okay, but my interest is understanding why it happens.

I too have some opinions on Ms. Battles notorious behavior, but its not important and I will not share. My own experience with her as a young singer I shall share. She was very gracious and down to earth with me. Then again, I wasn't working with her, I approached her as a fan after a recital. I was nervous as I had heard of her reputation, but I simply had to meet one of my favorite artists. I was shaking and she told me "don't be nervous.....I am so glad to meet you too...next time it will be like we're old friends" and she kissed me on the cheek. She was so genuine and we continued to talk about singing and her program and she wanted to know what I was working on. I found her to be intelligent and delightful. The pressures of being a star are incredible. If I ever did make it.....I'm not sure how I would handle that pressure.

she was a great star, reducing her to 'diva' dismissively ignores her glorious and lengthy career

Levine is probably the conductor specialized in opera with the larges repertoire and the most convincing anyway

This piece (which is not an aria) is known as "Die dame gibt mit trubem sinn". It follows right after Ariadne's big aria "Es gibt ein reich".
