I only got to see him once, in 1978 at Knebworth, where he was third on the bill to Jefferson Starship and Genesis. I became a fan after that but somehow never got to see him again.
Tom was a real showman, not every lead singer is, but he was both authentic and energetically driven in all the live performances ive been to. The band and him were super tight from start to finish every show.
What I love about Tom Petty is that he never uses hard consonants unless he absolutely has to. It gives his music this laid back feel to it. Even fast songs like "Running Down a Dream" you can visualize him as a WB cartoon character with his pinwheeling legs racing down the street but the rest of him at a 50 degree backward lean, just taking it easy. A unique style and talent that is already missed.
Tom Petty is the best! One of my biggest regrets in life is not going to see him play live while I had the chance. Under appreciated song writer and musician.
Loved Mr. Petty♥️ Wether a large stadium or a half empty suprise pub set, I've never seen an artist that made everyone at their show feel a direct connection ♥️♥️
TP&THB was the first rock music my ears ever heard as a little kid. Now I own a Rickenbacker guitar and know about 40-45 Petty songs by heart. He may not have been regarded as a top tier vocalist, (I always thought of him as a more universally appreciated Bob Dylan vocal tone) but no one will ever be able to deny just how damn good that whole band was from every angle. Drums, Bass, Guitars and vocals were all spot on every time they played. One of the best live performance bands on this planet until the night Tom left this world. 40 Years. FORTY. They never lost a single step along the way. THAT'S a sign of real talent.
Your smile on the first lyric line was priceless! #love! I notice you don’t have a baseline for what is considered a ‘good sound’... you listen to the artist without negative critique but instead pulling out the vocal-instrument to EACH individual artist. What more can we ask from a Voice Teacher! Cheers again from Nashville!
I was fortunate enough to see him live with my Dad back in 2001 along with Jackson Browne. It was an experience that I have and always will remember and hold close to my heart especially since my Dad passed away less than a year after Tom Petty died. One thing I found amazing was that Tom Petty played a 4 hour set and in that time every song he played was a big hit that everyone knew and was a common song to hear on the radio. I mean if you know Tom Petty then you can list all of his most famous songs but until you hear them all played back to back over a span of 4 hours that's when it hits you just how talented this man was.
I'm sad that I never got to see him live. I had a couple chances but always cancelled for some stupid reason. I'm 65 years old. Seen the Stone's, The Dead, Plant & Page, Foo Fighters, and the Who. One of my great regrets is not seeing Tom Petty live, as I love him so much. Such a great songwriter. His singing was purely intuitive. He knew what he could do and not. That's what he did. He was a genius.
A great series. I love how you focus on (and are enthusiastic about) each singer's unique strengths and special qualities. The joy you find in each singer is contagious. Can I suggest a review of two great English singers of the seventies (Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues (e.g. Nights in White Satin) and Paul Rodgers of Bad Company (e.g., Shootin' Star)? Woody 3

As far as artists go, native Floridian Tom Petty's musical style is has and was one of the most purest music around.. What a legacy. I would like to hear Beth, that most fetching woman do Todd Rundgren. Besides being an amazing singer, multi instrumentalist, he was probably the greatest producer of records during the 1970's. Hello It's me would be fine.
@@PsionicMonk I listened to some more of his songs the past few days. I've heard most of them before or even know them pretty well but just never knew that he was the artist.
Beth, I would love it if you'd pay some attention to Stan Ridgeway, especially after Wall of Voodoo. His voice is very distinctive and would love to hear what you have to say.
Ah, Tom Petty, absolute hero of mine. And I still remember the day when my father brought home the freshly released first Travelling Wilburys album. It was amazing. Besides his great vocals I really dig his clever lyrics here. "... I'm a bad boy for breaking her heart. And I'm freeeeee... free fallin'", completely reversing the meaning and breaking the listeners' expectations. Oh boy do I miss Tom Petty. And the rest of the Travelling Wilburys that are no longer with us. R.I.P.
You should check out Howie Epstein’s (bassist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) daughter Jamie Leffler from DWNTWN she made a song Heroine about her dad.
Heh, Mike Campbell and his double-neck guitar ... I knew he used it on Runnin' Down A Dream, didn't realize he was using it on Free Fallin' during the same performance.
could you do some songs by Bôa (UK band), some of the band members are the children of Bad Company's Paul Rodgers. i just love Jasmine Rodgers voice, especially on their songs Duvet, Fool, Scoring, and Twilight
If you've got Tom Petty, then I think you really should react to Harry Nilsson "Without You" What a voice Harry has. Prolific songwriter too.. UNFORTUNATELY, I cannot find any live recordings of this song
Sleep Token recently released a piano and vocal version of "Bloodsport" (the room below version) and it is hauntingly beautiful, please can you react to it, I'd love to hear how you break down his voice 😍
Still miss Tom Petty.. something about his vocals.. it's like it didn't matter that he was getting older, he still just sounded like Tom Petty. Unlike some other artists as they get older.. Springsteen doesn't sound anything like he used to. Jackson Browne singing songs in different keys these days to accommodate his aging vocals. And the Heartbreakers were just getting better and better. We should have had many more years of new Tom Petty music.
Should have chosen the live version of Breakdown. The one where the audience sings the chorus. Pretty sure Tom was high AF, but still one of the best live performances ever.
The lyrics were a joke.../Jeff Lynne said he needed another AMERICAN GIRL, and Tom jokingly said,”she’s a good girl, loves her momma, etc”....then Jeff said “perfect, that’s it”.....Both musical geniuses
Hi Beth, I'd be glad if you can react to WINNER Kang Seungyoon's performances in the King of Masked Singer. He's currently the ONLY kpop idol in the top 5 singers with most wins in the show's history with 6 wins in a row. He's known for his great vocal technique & said to be a good storyteller when performing his songs by the panelist. So, I'll be glad if you can react to him & share your opinions on his vocal too. 💙 There are several songs that he performed on the show, but personally this are my Top3 :- Drifting Apart ua-cam.com/video/uGBa-wRFd7g/v-deo.html Family Portrait ua-cam.com/video/pi8loM3LKsk/v-deo.html 25,21 ua-cam.com/video/uGBa-wRFd7g/v-deo.html
Can you please listen to George Strait, he is considered the King of Country Music and he has 60 number 1 hits. What is your opinion that makes him special?
Oh Thanks for these videos.... I`m so glad... Hey, could you react to "Glory Days" by Inglorious... I`m sure you will enjoy that song. Please Pleased me
If you wanna experience something weird that makes you laugh at the same time you should listen to Eskimo Callboy - Hypa Hypa. And yes that's an actual Thing :D
This song will be in music history forever.💕
I'm so glad I was able to see him in multiple concerts before he died.. RIP Tom Petty
I know, same here
I play music and play about 6 Petty tunes, I am super jealous that you got to see him live.
I only got to see him once, in 1978 at Knebworth, where he was third on the bill to Jefferson Starship and Genesis. I became a fan after that but somehow never got to see him again.

Oddly specific and spot on description
This song is so simple, yet it always moves me. Sometimes to tears.
Tom Petty is the best! One of my biggest regrets in life is not going to see him play live while I had the chance. Under appreciated song writer and musician.
Was
I never got the chance to see him live. He is awesome.
The genius of Jeff Lynne who produced the song and gave Petty helpful advice on how to sing this better than Tom would have on his own.
Loved Mr. Petty♥️

Best half time show ever. They played whole songs.
I m freeeee, free fallin'!!!!!! Classic!! Great Tom Petty!

I love the fact that you are breaking down his Superbowl performance, that 15 or so minutes was a masterclass
One of the best to ever do it
I love Tom Petty and his Heartbreakers 🎶💕👍
I'm sad that I never got to see him live. I had a couple chances but always cancelled for some stupid reason. I'm 65 years old. Seen the Stone's, The Dead, Plant & Page, Foo Fighters, and the Who. "Refugee" still my favorite Tom Petty song
He was such a brilliant song writer.
His voice is so deep when he talks you'd never expect the high notes
Love the channel u made me appreciate this song even more and like petty and the heartbreakers u rock
It was live?! lol Every single note was on point woow he was awesome

This man really sings all right, even with a chronic shortness of breath...god bless him

Slaughter To Prevail - Demolisher , you’ll love Alex - he has a unique vocal that wil give you goosebumps
I would love if u did the smiths and the song William it was really nothing. I feel that this song is one of there best
Tom Petty always had that sludge/stoner sound with his vocals. Kind of like he didn't care ...that was his appeal in the 70's when he hit the airwaves
The song that brought him to the spotlight was breakdown and it actually didn’t have a ton of his signature accent in it
RIP Tom Petty... I grew up listening his songs...
I would really love to see a react to Tom and Stevie Nicks "Stop draggin my heart around"!
How fun. He actually had a pretty good range and belting ability.
I love the way you speak
As far as artists go, native Floridian Tom Petty's musical style is has and was one of the most purest music around.. What a legacy. I still cant believe he is gone, RIP Tom
Best superbowl halftime show imo
Best of all time
I was never really aware of Tom Petty, but of course I know this song. His voice sounds really comfortable and relaxing.
Thanks for the reaction (:
I would suggest you look into more of his music. He was/is a legend and his music is, in my opinion, timeless.
@@PsionicMonk I listened to some more of his songs the past few days. I've heard most of them before or even know them pretty well but just never knew that he was the artist.
Your videos is what makes me want to smile. :)
Beth, I suggest you to watch a video from Argentina about your audience and how they are. I’ll love it. I can count on that. Thanks and much love

Love this song, you might want to have a listen to Stevie Nicks' version!
Can you react to "Dancing with the Moonlit Knight" by Genesis?
Stevie Nicks closed out Fleetwood Mac's Dublin show with this song last year. It really is one of those songs for artists to just lose themselves in.
could you do some songs by Bôa (UK band), some of the band members are the children of Bad Company's Paul Rodgers. i just love Jasmine Rodgers voice, especially on their songs Duvet, Fool, Scoring, and Twilight
