Hi UA-cams! Friendly reminder, this is completely BLIND play through. No hints, tips, or info about the game whatsoever, no matter how small. It is so much more fun to watch Ryan figure things out on his own. :)

Objectively, that is "right". But as a kid of the 80s, the first two (especially the first) are unapproachably magical. This game was an amazing expansion, and still one of the best in the series. But my dumb love of the original especially will never fade.
@@stephenmarseille5425 My first Zelda was Link's Awakening, so coming back to the first three games was as close as I've come to doing what Ryan is here. Bounced hard off the first two, fell in love with this one. I think I would feel differently if I had the nostalgic memories of playing them as a child, but also Link to the Past is impressive for just how accessible it still is.
I played "A Link to the Past" for the first time in 1993, at age 43. I still play it from time to time today. Thank you for sharing your first experience of the game with us. I wouldn't want to give anything away, but I will say that the game rewards those who explore thoroughly.
This game came out a few days after my birthday, and it was the only thing I wanted (I was obsessed with the first two games). But because it came out after my birthday I assumed I just wasn't getting it until much later. On the day it came out I came home from school and opened my desk drawer to grab a pencil, and found the box sitting there. Best surprise of my young life.
I already have too many things to watch, but I’m definitely on board for this one. This game created so many things that are now just “That’s what a Zelda game is.”
Hey man, I just want to say that I'm super proud of you, I've been watching you since the first day you started playing legend of Zelda breath of the wild, your personality had caught my attention and I was immediately interested in your videos, I watched all of you legend of Zelda videos and when I missed a day of watching you I felt so bad that I binge watched your videos to make up for it. Random trivia that's pretty much spoiler-free: the Spin Attack made it's official debut in this game. According to TV Tropes, it was actually inspired by a bug you could do in the original Zelda where, if you were fast enough with the d-pad, you could have Link attack in all four directions with one stab (Zelda 1 only had basic stabs in the cardinal directions, and Zelda 2 was a side scroller when it came to the combat, the dungeons, the towns and the caves).
Oh wow, having a flashback. This was the first cassette I inserted into my brand new, 8-bit Nintendo (pre-SNES). Ryan your theory crafting on how the items and enemies work is hilarious. Made me laugh. The boomerang stuns them. They never hold up a shield at any point lol.
This is a great place to start in 2D Zelda. It's not as unforgivingly hard as the Zeldas before it, and it also won't feel too overly simplistic like if you bounced back to it after playing the later games. ALttP is also the starting point for a LOT of Zelda music, so if you enjoy the themes here, you'll hear them referenced in cool ways in later entries (including in BotW and TotK).
This is cool! I've actually never gotten to play this. I wasn't able to as a kid and it's one of those things I never got around to. I'm excited to go on this little blind journey with you :)
Excited to watch this. I’ve never played link to the past, and I have a hard time playing top-down games since I was introduced to gaming during the Nintendo 64 era. Looking forward to finally experiencing this game through this series!

Did you notice the music when you freed Zelda from the prison? First occurrence of “Zelda’s Lullaby” theme. How about that castle music? Does it sound familiar? I’d like to see you continue the rest of the Zelda series in release order, blind with no internet, _LIKE THEY WERE MEANT TO BE PLAYED!_ (Okay, so we did have Nintendo Power magazines back then, but you had to hope you managed to get the one with the map / guide you needed for the game.)

This is a way to experience what that would have been like, so many years later. I've never seen anyone else play through this game before either, so this is just a treat all around. How exciting. :)
My favorite Zelda game out of the entire series is this one, so easy to just run through the game for me now that i know where every important pick-up is in the game. When i first played this i needed a lot of help from my older brothers. Most game systems belonged to my oldest brother and when Ocarina of Time was released, my other brother and i weren't allowed to progress further than our older brother in his file in our own files. Always fun to watch a first time player of this game.
this makes me so happy. this was one of my first video games. its also the origin of so many recurring themes of the zelda series, many of which are frequently misattributed to ocarina of time. Its one of my top favorite games in the whole series, and i think it has aged a lot better than ocarina of time also.
So excited for you to play this game! I hope Meg is feeling good and wish her the best of luck with labor/delivery when the time comes ❤ as I'm watching this I'm 40 weeks pregnant with my first, and I'm pretty sure I'm in early labor! Watching to distract myself between contractions 😂

OMG you're back with a Zelda game, and it is my favorite one. I will have a great time watching you play it. I played this game 20 times or more, lol. Not only that, but I played this game for the first time on release day, in 1992 I was 29 years old. I hope you will play the Zelda game I send to you also someday. Twilight Princess on the WiiU. Have fun with ALTTP Ryan.
This was the first zelda game i completed. I am so glad you're having with it. Its cool to see gameplay elements that get carried onward into the newer games in the series. I thought of this game when i did the spinning attack in botw.
It's very interesting to see completely blind gameplay of this game. 42:48 I played it in 1992. I was 9 years old. My little brother occasionally watched.
My best "no cheat, no glich" speedrun takes me exactly 10 minuts (killing everything and checking every pots in my way) from the waking up of "Link" to the rescue of the princess (to the sanctuary)
I don't know how, but I never realized that sprite was holding a wand. Maybe it was a screen size/resolution thing, but I always thought it was a weird bug with a nose like a proboscis.
This game is a BANGER!! I used to be obsessed with it. One time my brother stole and traded my GBA cart to some kid at school and I went on a rampage lol. Not my proudest moment but I was so attached to this game!
It's heeeere! 🎉 *as if I didn't just hear about this an hour ago* Watching your Dark Souls playthrough too and having a blast. Looking forward to you playing Elden Ring and TOTK someday. 🛡 Edit: my sibs and I played this shortly after its release in 1992. We got a Super Nintendo for Christmas and my three sibs and I had to pool our Christmas card money together to get this game because it was still 69.99 back then. Expensive but worth it for the memories 😊
This game, despite being a good 8-9 years older than me (oof), was a huge part of my childhood. MY parents had a SuperNintendo, and I used to sit on their lap and tell them what to do, even before I could read myself haha! Nowadays I tend to replay it - in a randomized format - every now and again. There is actually a pretty big community for both speedrunning the game, as well as competing against others with randomization, with a bunch of categories (mostly related to how deeply you are allowed to break the game through glitches lol)
This was my first "real" videogame, thats more than dots jumping up and down (sorry Atari). I found an SNES with Super Mario World, Street Fighter 2 and this gem under the christmas tree when I was a kid. My mind was completely blown and my love for video games ignited. Today, more than 30 years later, I still hunger for more Zelda and games alike.
Yes another Zelda!!! Looking forward to seeing you play a game I haven’t played myself, it’ll be a new experience💙💙💙 Edit: finished the video and since this game makes you feel so nostalgic maybe you could say it’s your link to the past?… I’ll see myself out🚶♀️
I also did not start my Zelda journey with the older ones. My first real experience was with Ocarina of Time on N64 in the late 90s. While I tried LTTP on an airplane tv at about 10 years old, I did not properly play it until I bought it on Wii virtual console in my late teens. Have never finished it actually.

Love this one!
A classic for sure.
Not my favorite one but it has to be respected, every zelda fan should play it at least once.
My best "no cheat, no glich" speedrun takes me exactly 10 minuts (killing everything and checking every pots in my way) from the waking up of "Link" to the rescue of the princess (to the sanctuary)
Very influential game in video game history. Played it through many times and still hum the tunes.
I don't know how, but I never realized that sprite was holding a wand. Maybe it was a screen size/resolution thing, but I always thought it was a weird bug with a nose like a proboscis.
Congrats on the new baby! UA-cam recommended this video and I’m excited to see your play through. I’m currently playing this as well.
You can just yeet into the void had me laughing pretty good.
Harvesting the guards' hearts to regain health
This game is a BANGER!! I used to be obsessed with it. One time my brother stole and traded my GBA cart to some kid at school and I went on a rampage lol. Not my proudest moment but I was so attached to this game!
What did your parents do?
Seeing this in my recommended brought me so much joy!

It's heeeere! 🎉 *as if I didn't just hear about this an hour ago* Watching your Dark Souls playthrough too and having a blast. Looking forward to you playing Elden Ring and TOTK someday. 🛡
Edit: my sibs and I played this shortly after its release in 1992.
*This is a certified hood classic 👌*
After watching so many speed run tourneys.. totally forgot what the right side of escape (1st floor) looked like
🎉🎉🎉 so excited I've never played this game before either can't wait!!
So excited for this. I didn't get to play this before the 3D ones, so I'll enjoy seeing you experience it that way (:
Yes another Zelda!!! Looking forward to seeing you play a game I haven’t played myself, it’ll be a new experience💙💙💙
Edit: finished the video and since this game makes you feel so nostalgic maybe you could say it’s your link to the past?… I’ll see myself out🚶♀️
I also did not start my Zelda journey with the older ones. My first real experience was with Ocarina of Time on N64 in the late 90s. While I tried LTTP on an airplane tv at about 10 years old, I did not properly play it until I bought it on Wii virtual console in my late teens. Have never finished it actually.
Awesome to see another playthrough Ryan! Good job!
Thanks Chris ☺️
