@@dbodooley You are so cool & smart , am i aloud to say the third part with Merde is now "C'est Pas Moi or did you already know that & i should not be excited anymore?
Same. But I did love the first short about the woman turning into a chair. Didn’t really like the 3rd one, even though Bong Joon-Ho is in my top 5 favorite directors.
I read all 56 comments and so many people are like "lol its funny" and "omg its so deep and genius" but for me this was and still is one of the scariest and most unsettling films I've ever seen. The over all look of this man makes me wanna cry the way he moves is unsettling and creepy. The scene where they literally hang him and he just scratches his leg, moves his blindfold and then just disappears haunts my memories. Even now as a 22y/o woman if I'm alone in my bed trying to sleep at 5am I can sometimes vividly see this man raising up from the foot of my bed and then walking that creepy ass walk around it to get to me...I cut on a light before he gets me every time.
Its rather a symbolism of the Messiah who not came to make peace but to divide. And God who will not come to make peace but bring the righteous Sword. And how a more radical version of Jesus wouldve been sacrificed in todays modernity. A time where words dont have value anymore, but only grenades
Holy Motors great movie. pure genius this film. The actor is a genius, the director too. scenes totally crazy, staggering, hallucinating, bizarre, strange, fascinating. Denis Lavant is an incredible actor. I have never seen an actor endorse so many characters in a single feature. The scene with Eva Mendes or Mr Merde is totally naked and in real erection is hallucinating. It takes daring and madness to dare it. I do not know many actors capable of interpreting so many roles in a single film. This film completely fascinated me and it deserved the Palme d'Or in 2012.
I love that Merde is essentially the personification of Godzilla. The theme makes it a humorous comparison, but his innate detestation of Japanese people feels less like racism and more like a primal proclivity towards hate, like a certain lizard we all know. That, and he finds a wartime room where he finds literally destructive means to attack Tokyo, more akin to Godzilla's usual methods of mayhem.
I see the movie as a satire/critique about Tokyo's obsession with it's cleanly and orderly facade, that pretty much only exists to hide the corpses of japans past. Mr.Merde is tearing down the facade and digs for them, and just like a terrorist he must in the end die for it.
Its rather a symbolism of the Messiah who not came to make peace but to divide. And God who will not come to make peace but bring the righteous Sword. And how a more radical version of Jesus wouldve been sacrificed in todays modernity. A time where words dont have value anymore, but only grenades
I still believe they did something wrong by showing in the news images from this scene. Because, it's supposed to be what the people in the street recorded.
i have seen this first in the aphex twin "fingerbib" video and think it's fantastic. i wonder if mr. merde is meant as sort of a personification of human greed and lack of empathy. we let such types of people do their destructive business and won't stop them, because we either won't dare or are completly paralyzed.
I really would like to watch this ,despite the likelihood that it would add to the painful sense of dislocation and yearning that has accompanied me, since I left, in 2006. How to find information about shooting locations? This reminds me of Ginza district, and I'm reminded of the sound of crows! If only film technology could capture (especially when considering the title) the smell of the underground : sewage, burnt plastic, baked dust, 'metallic after-taste' and packets of dried-squid.
Out of the three short films this one made no sense. Am I not catching the satire? Is he mocking the Japanese culture or does it has something to do with Japan’s history?
hes supposed to be a godzilla like monster, its also a refernece to the slapstick tramp characters of Buster Keaton And charlie chaplin.... if that helps
@@Daahma its tokyo! not holy motors ... its not a personification of godzilla but the japan's history of WW2 that they try to hide so desperatelly... the moral of the story is that it ends up hunting them no matter what .. watch the movie and try to correlate the details according to this symbolism and you ll see that it makes perfectly sense vimeo.com/5851763
Critical attack.
If someone licked my armpit while I was in a defensive stance, I too would be completely defeated.
Same music of Godzilla Minus One. I watched the movie and I knew I've heard it before.
It's the original Godzilla theme tune, from the 50s (or a version thereof). The use of it in GM1 is a callback.
This movie scene is totally epic, maybe one I will remember all my life, and still laughing uncontrollably
