WOODLAND WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY | photographing The Nuthatch from a hide

- As Autumn approaches, and the nights are getting longer a change of weather is in the air, the normally green woodlands of summer start to change and take on the wonderful colours of this time of year. There is no better time to set up a woodland hide for a spot of wildlife photography.
With the sounds of constant bird song and that damp smell in the air, it's a magical time of year to be out with a camera In this video, I photograph a bird I've actually never captured before and this is the Nuthatch. A beautiful bird which visits the hide setup along with all the other woodland species.

Great video Simon , verry inspiring
Great video Simon well done mate .
Thank you Fletch. Glad you like it.
Another cracking video Simon, nice shots to mate. Have been spending a lot of time with kingfishers at the moment, were all improving and enjoying the great outdoors. What more could we want.
Thank you Jon, glad you found it enjoyable to watch. I've just had an offer for a collaboration soon, so watch out for that video coming soon. Thanks again.
Love Nuthatches!
Beautiful images of a beautiful bird...
Thank you Nigel..
Great video Simon. Appreciate the quick editing explanation, nice touch. Some great images, Wren is my favourite. Keep them coming 👍🏻
Thanks Karl. I'm planning on doing a RAW comparison Vs edited image in all my upcoming videos. I don't think another wildlife photographer is doing that unless I'm wrong. I don't mind sharing my editing process as that's the question I get asked the most. Thanks again.
Your videos are coming along great! Good work and some really nice images you got too 👌🏻
Thanks Espen.
cracking video and images Simon keep them coming
Thanks Andrew..
Thanks for sharing Simon. Some great images. I look forward to the next one. 👍
Thank you John. Hoping to release them more quickly going forward..
Beautiful stuff Simon, inspiring. Thanks for sharing 👌
Thanks Rich. Glad you like it..
Hi Simon, I follow Morton, Thomas and Tom. I am sure that you know who those vloggers are. I love how you have begun to follow a bit of their models of awesome and crackin’video. The editing touch is your mark that makes the difference. Thanks.
Hi Randy, thank you very much for your comment. Yes, I know all those vloggers especially Morten who I've spoke to in a few occasions. I'm glad you think it's up with their standard and glad you find the processing a useful extra touch. I was looking for something that distinguishes me from all the other wildlife vloggers so thanks for letting me know.
Randy Geene .... I follow them too.... they are great... hopefully one day my uploads will be as good.
Great hide.... great pics... and an enjoyable upload... ty
Thank you John, really appreciate the comment.
Very slick, Simon, you’re vlogs are getting better and better all the time 👍🏻 And that Nuthatch image is the dogs conkers! Peanut in beak shot is great too, almost my fave if not for the bokeh detail directly behind
Thanks Martin really appreciate that. Agree on the nuthatch with peanut image. I'll be doing the RAW Vs final image slot in each upcoming vlog where I can. Hopefully that adds something a bit different.
Just stumbled across your channel, so glad I did, at last a UK wildlife photographer. Keep it coming.
Hi Dave, thank you very much for your comment - that's really kind of you. Although I've been a wildlife photographer for many years, creating vlogs is certainly something very new especially as I'm not used to being behind the camera. I hope people get something from them and the videos get better over time. I've had a load of requests from people so lots in the pipeline. Thanks again.
Awesome stuff Simon keep going.
Thank you. Certainly will, just struggling for time currently with other wildlife photography trips but will release a new video this week. Thanks

Thank you Nigel.. have a good evening.
Well done Simon, you've reached a new level with this video. Magnificent :-)
Thanks Godfrey. Put a lot into this one so hope the subscribers follow. Thanks again..
Another great vlog Simon, producing some great images and proves it is possible to those who set their upper ISO limit at 400 or they can't use the shot!
Thanks Nick.
Really enjoying your vlogs, your enthusiasm is so infectious. Looking forward to the next one. 📷🙏🏻🙏🏻👏🏻
Thank you David... Very kind.
Nice one Simon, Lovely images. The editing bit was a nice departure from the formulaic style of so many other vloggers. I'm sure Morten will smile when he sees your coffee moment but I thought it was a bit naff (sorry).
Thanks Brian and comments on the images and editing bit. I agree with the coffee moment - not sure I'd use the word naff but a bit cheesy 😉 it tasted blooming awful as well. Thanks
@@SimonWantling hahaha no offense intended mate just pulling your leg a bit. Cheesy coffee though? yuk!
. Hi Simon. I am an avid Nature photographer myself and am relay enjoying your videos. It is great to see someone else as passionate about nature and bird photography as myself , Keep up the great work.
I hope one day that my videos become as interesting as yours. I am new at this video recording so still got a long way to go .
Hi Carl, thanks very much for getting in touch..I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. I'm normally behind the camera so it's been a challenge to film myself but I'm starting to enjoy it. Hope your photography is going well. All the best.
Great video I always find that in dark woodlands or when light is bad the iso is really high which is annoying but keep up the videos!
Indeed. No real way around it but not a problem for the 1DX mark II. Thanks again.
really lovely, I have a local woods which is beautiful & so much to hear & see 💕📷 just struggle with light 😉 off to watch more.. thanks! am on Instagram as Crafty Lou & any help with light advice would be amazing! but I have a Nikon d5500 😊
Hi Simon
Great video, I've followed you on Twitter for a while as well.
Can I ask where you got the neoprene camera cover from?
Thanks.
Thank you Graham.
Nice work Simon. I'm looking at doing a similar setup in some woodland near my house, my concerns are that because it is public land, setting up my pop-up hide might draw some attention. Do you have any pointers or advice?
Hi, thanks for your comment and apologies for the slow reply. It's always risky leaving any equipment in public places. Ive done it before but unfortunately there's always someone that will pinch it so I don't bother any more. No problem though creating a setup and then putting the hide up for the day off the beaten track.
@@SimonWantling Thanks for the reply Simon, Yep that is my plan, I have everything set up, now I'm just waiting for a break in the weather. Looking forward to your next video photographing Barn Owls with continuous lighting..
Great video Simon , verry inspiring
Thank you Rudy..
