I got this board just before the prices went outrageous. Played it a bunch at the start of covid, but I'm not very good at shmups. Love the vibe, the flat graphics, mecha designs and the little dudes you collect to help out.
14:30 "ambush spots" Yeah, honestly this game feels very much like a memorizer. It's very impressive seeing 1CCs as clearly a ton of learning all the enemy spawns went into it, but it's brutally unforgiving if you don't have enemy layouts memorized as you can start getting hit over and over. No telegraphing when a small enemy's going to shoot, a large player hitbox, autoscrolling forcing constant enemy encounters, and the potential to accidentally grab one of the really thin weapons at a bad time... It's got some rough spots for sure, much like all Data East games seem to. I love the game aesthetically, but the longer I play it the more I just don't enjoy it mechanically compared to other run 'n guns.
My favourite Data East game. Tons of action and athe music rocks. Got the Saturn port some years ago.
Oooo neat. Love this game! Glad you guys have it some coverage.
Love the "Aquas is the expert" episodes. Raiden IV episode still one of my favorites. Still waiting for your WR Pink Sweets commentary!
Hell yeah, this game is sick! Stoked to watch this ep.

The best Data East game.
