It was a very fascinating way to set this story up. I've only recently started reading Ishida's work, but I very much enjoy their style, both storytelling and art.
I love the meaning behind the title of “X”. The way I interpret it as the variable of an equation. The same way that the variable needs to be found through a process, the world defining choujin will find which way they sway towards, a savior or a calamity. They themselves are the variable that will define this generation of choujin and the world in which they live in. I absolutely love the way Ishida uses his titles from Re: and now this. Masterful writing and I’m having such a great time reading it.
I think Azuma will still transform into a hyena or lion choujin. His current choujin form is kinda formless, it doesn’t necessarily have a real persona. We know that people turn into the choujin they want or relate to the most, i.e Tokio turning into a vulture because it’s what he related to the most. So I think Azuma still has yet to have that persona, and it looks like it’s likely going to be either a lion as that’s what people seen him as the most, a stoic and prideful person or a hyena as we’ve seen a lot of panel’s lately of Azuma and a hyena. Now what this spotted hyena means to Azuma exactly we don’t know, spotted hyena’s like vultures are scavenger’s. This could mean anything to Azuma but I feel like Azuma feels like he’s kinda fake and doesn’t actually feel like he’s the “lion” or the “hero”. I feel like this is backed up by the fact that he knows Tokio is always holding back against him, making Azuma feel like he was never that strong.
I think azuma is the hero or justice choujin. Tokio saw himself as a vulture hanging around azuma and azuma saw himself as tokio's hero, it would tie in to the theme of the two of them being interconnected really nicely if their choujin forms were based off how they view themselves in relation to each other.

I started Tokyo Ghoul about a year ago and didn't pick it back up until recently. I'm not even finished with Tokyo Ghoul: Re (sequel series) and I've fallen deeply in love. Now, it's a bad argument to say "it gets better later on" because, for one, I thought it was enjoyable even early on; for two, telling someone they have to commit time and energy to get far into a story is hard and not always reasonable or enjoyable. But Tokyo Ghoul (and Re) is a very MEATY story. What I mean by that is that quite a lot of things happen by the end of it. Thinking about the first arc versus where I am now, the story has evolved into something entirely different and unexpected. Couple that with the evolution of the art style and I'm beginning to realize how much I adore this manga. Obviously since everyone has their own tastes, you may never be able to get far into it, or you have actually read it all and don't enjoy it anyways and I'm talking out of my ass. But on the off chance you haven't gotten to Tokyo Ghoul's peaks, I highly recommend you give it another chance. And if you do, I hope you enjoy it.
I just wanted to mention that when Chandra is talking to the mother, he mentions completing with the noh mask man for the mothers affection, so I think they're on the same side.

The reason why Tokyo ghoul had a bad ending was because of the place he was working in. They didn't give him enough space to breathe, relax and get to main point of the story and finish with peace instead, made him finish because of stress and lack of breaks. For choujin x on the other hand, young jump allows him to release his manga at his own pace and this make ishida to be more flexible and have more time to think before concluding. Chapter 24 being a more of an explanation of what choujin x is all about making the rest more like an introduction to the story is just BRILLIANT. I love ishidas work an so far I'm hoping to see what more he give us with this manga. 3rd we all know that ishidas focus on any manga he makes, he focuses on the characters, their backgrounds, the way they respond with their emotions like you explained thank you, I feel like this manga is going to based of the characters character, their emotions is the whole point of the story, like how one is going to move forward or slack. I still think that Ishida did a good job, with the burnout and little time he had it could be a lot worse, he did his best and i respect him so much for that, at least he could do the ending he wanted
I wonder what Choujin X (The manga) was based off of. Maybe something to do with real-world history, just like Tokyo Ghoul was of the Ainu people. Maybe when more chapters expand on the story of the previous Choujin Xs, there might be some relation to real world dictators and ‘heroes’, where they are ‘wicked’ or ‘virtuous’ respectively.
I mean tokio being the choujin x makes sense . Cause he doesn't see value in putting effort towards anything . Ishida will probably give him a character development and then drop him down to hopelessness so he becomes the choujin x
I feel like chojin x could be not exactly both azuma and Tokio having the potential but perhaps a different meaning all together. The meaning being that similar to tokyo ghoul these two characters could become one person somehow that together in body and mind they are X. Similar to how together Kaneki and Rize were Dragon.

I love where the story is going and can't wait to see what comes next. Also while I don't know the full meaning of Azuma and the hyena metaphor it probably going to be really emotional. Seeing him break down at the beach with the corpse was rough.
X can be Tokio, azuma or elly. They all have the power to be good or to turn evil. They all strive to do good and what's right but they all struggle with their inner demons and insecurities. Elly's MOTHER was the leader of a band of criminals and knowing this she has tried to do her best to do good and not follow in the path of her mom but now we see that just like her, elly has the capability of stealing or consuming powers or maybe people. The future chapters will explain more but so far its written out pretty well.
I think the actual letter X might be a symbol of the 2 characters moral journeys. Notice that one line is constant, the other slightly staggered. Perhaps each character is one of the lines, and it's representative of the journey of them crossing to another end of the moral spectrum, the straight line could be representing a straight forward journey from good to bad(whichever character that may actually end up to be) and the others, not so straight forward journey? I might be looking to far into it, but I wouldn't put it past sui ishida to have some subtle foreshadowing.

Im glad im not the only one who loves Choujin X. Tokio, for me, is very relatable, and is slowly finding his way and purpose, and even when he believes he wants to a hero, this ideology is tested. I can’t wait for a chapter where Tokio can’t save someone from rampaging, and what this hurdle does to him.
I feel like at the start Tokyo will try to save Azuma who is unstable and for this he gives up more and more of his humanity. And because of that, later the dynamic will switch
