As a multimedia arts student. when sui ishida said that "working on something that you love turns to hate", i know how it feels because when your hobby that you genuinely do for fun suddenly becomes a work with deadlines, its gonna feel forced and rushed and the end result might be something unsatisfactory or substandard for the artist themselves and wishing they could've put much more effort if time allows it to do so.
I relate to this as a former chef, I used to love to cook, I'd cook every day for my family, I would experiment with recipes try new things but once I was working it professionally people made me hate it, years of practice and perfection meant nothing to the Karen out front, you'd make it exactly how she wanted and she'd still get made and make demands. It sucked the life out of me even to this day I no longer work in food and I avoid cooking for others at all costs.

Something they tend to avoid in art related fields is burnout, which I find ironic since it is much more common there. When you love doing something and allow it to be all you do, it will consume you. Sometimes you have to take a good look at yourself and find a compromise between your vision and what is accomplishable in the time you have. Sometimes you must stop for a second and decide that even though you feel compelled to work you will take the rest of the day off so you can pick up again tomorrow with a cook head and rested body.
yeah it reminds me of reading in middle and high school, most of the books I was forced to read were books I would've probably read anyway, but when they start forcing me to annotate like mad, analyze parts I feel don't need analyzing, and worst of all make me write essays, it feels like a chore rather than a captivating novel I want to spend my nights reading

Tokyo Ghoul is that feeling turned into a story... it often feels so bizarre and alien but so human at the same time that you can't help but connect with the characters in one way or another. Might sound edgy but to this day I haven't found a series that quite feels like Tokyo Ghoul. It was my first ever manga and I still have a special place in my heart for it.
Yeah, in a world where anime is so uniform and rarely vary in style, tokyo ghoul always had an interesting one of a kind artstyle to it. Also the story is bleak and the characters unforgettable. Also I get what you mean by them being "human". Ghouls in Tokyo Ghoul are outcasts and they react to their loneliness in different ways, some try fitting in fearful of what happens if their true self was disovered, some become complete loners, and others violently lash out against society. I think we can all relate one or another to these predicaments even if we are not flesh eating monsters!

At first Tokyo Ghoul's Art felt very intermittent and crude, but I love how Sui Ishida worked with his shading and style, to create more consistent + refined art in Tokyo Ghoul Re. He does an amazing job at shading and as well as cover art. Exceptional cover art.
I have seriously been so into sui ishida’s artstyle recently. In fact I just finished a drawing of kaneki. I was so waiting for this thank you so much. Really I love the colored work the most and even the black n white drawings are masterful. Probably my favorite art style in general.
I have read a lot of manga, and I have to admit Kaneki is one of the characters that is most rooted in myself, he has something emotional and psychological that drowns into you, all of his transformations of self change all the narratives in a deep way.
The manga was a masterpiece all the way up to the final chapter, the only blemish, that rushed ending so Sui Ishida could get some peace away from the twittards who constantly harassed him for years. I'm happy to see him back working on Choujin X, but I will always be sad that the ending of Tokyo ghoul :re was nothing more than a wall of text and we never did find out what happened to Eto after her impossible return from the dead. I love this manga, and I will always recommend to it to people looking for a mature well written and drawn series ripe with symbolism depth and more than anything Heart. Thank you for talking about how beautiful the art is and the depth within it.
it is not only the art that matters, it is also the various unique characters, the dark expressive themes, the remarkable dialouges and disposals (the jokes too ?), the beautiful songs, the breath taking storyline. a visual, aural, tangible, perceptual purifaction. really tries bien.
Tokyo Ghoul has remained as one of my favorite Manga since I read it. I've read plenty of other Manga in the time since I first finished the series, yet I still come back to Tokyo Ghoul constantly. I know it's controversial to say, but I've always been satisfied with the ending. It felt a bit forced, yes. But I'm glad it didn't go down the "Every character was killed off in the end" route Ishida initially planned. Not to say I didn't fully expect that route when reading weekly, but I was surprised when I started reading around and seeing how many people didn't like the ending.
After years of swerving it due to how meh the anime was, I read all of Tokyo Ghoul last year and liked it. The plot, especially in the first half, made SO much more sense than the show. Like in Gigguk’s Tokyo Ghoul video where Kaneki joins Aogiri Tree and says, “Probably makes sense in the manga!” and it does… because he doesn’t join Aogiri Tree in the manga. Studio Perriot butchered it, and for no reason. The first part of the manga was over before Perriot got to the finale, so they chose to mangle the story with that weird ending and Root A. I didn’t know the ending was apparently “controversial” until right now though. Why is that? I think the Re had stuff that wasn’t explored or clarified very well (One Eyed King, old ghoul city under Tokyo, V), and too many characters that looked similar, but I don’t really get why anyone would say the ending was bad
the one eyed king was clarified clear as day. V wasn't meant to be clarified / explored upon because it's meant to be a secret agency, them being "uncovered" would kind of defeat the purpose of being "secret". The underground city doesn't have much to explore other than the underground king. The rest is pretty much self explanatory and doesn't need an explanation. We were told many times throughout the story that ghouls lived underground, so it would make sense for there to be civilizations of sorts underground.
@@mister_hamana I wasn’t sure if the One Eyed King was an actual person or just the idea of a ghoul who leads other ghouls. And in regards to the underground cities, it wasn’t clear to me how long ago the ruler of that place turned into a gigantic monster. It looked pretty old, but the fact that there were kids there made it look like it as still thriving to some extent. That, on top of Touka being the only one who can communicate with the kids from there. And yeah, V is a secret organization, but they came out into the light and multiple characters knew about them. I also wonder what happened to Eto. Is she alive again or what?

@@mister_hamana The biggest weakness of TG is actually it's world building. In a world where ghouls have existed since time unknown things would be a lot different - the outlook of religion on ghouls, cults, other forced stronger than or equal to washu clan, the fights among these clan, old battlefields, war, forbidden areas, ancestral grounds, etc. We are only ever given enough information to make sense of a plot development instead of a comprehensive look at the world itself and how it came to be. Sui Ishida has himself admitted that when he started the manga he hadn't given much thought to the resolution between the humans and ghouls. I know Ishida was tired and all. But objectively speaking after Kaneki becoming One Eyed King, some clever stategic clashes would have served the story well. For example, it would have been cool to see Goat from the outside and the Quinx from the inside try to uncover secrets and maybe visit places like where Arima and Furuta were trained.
Tokyo ghoul is a really fantastic story and it's such a shame that the anime does such a terrible job to adapt the Manga I've always liked how the characters in this series evolved, how it conveyed humanity in this otherwise depressing uncaring world, how many humans were just as cruel as demons and the ones seen as demons were some of the most human people, the guy who ran anteiku (been a while since I read TG) was imo the one who had the most humanity inside of him, cared for others but also understood the situation he's been in for decades, but still does the best of it, he had his secrets and fought even if he would have preferred to not. Humans are flawed, it's about how we choose to act in those pressing times. I really liked how you mentioned Kanekis hair turning black again as haise but ultimately still fading back to white. Tokyo ghoul although having many horror elements has such a unique art style where it can have some really warm and heartfelt moments while being submerged in a sea of sadness
I'm glad he's still working in Choujin X, you can probably see that he's now enjoying doing said manga. It's in the artstyle and how it's written. I'm really happy for him.
Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul :re remains and will forever remain my favourite anime/manga due to how dark yet so empathetic the characters and scenarios are throughout the development of the story. I personally feel like it's quite beautiful in a wonderfully twisted way
I absolutely fell in love with Tokyo ghoul when I gave it a shot, for so long I avoided it to eventually get to since everyone would trash talk it from what it seemed but after I saw it and then read into it I could say I was obsessed with it. It’s such a ride of emotions that I’m glad I experienced.
About the Tokyo Ghoul original & :re manga, I honestly think that this manga is totally underrated because of the anime and the fanbase of it, the story and its characters are amazing in the manga, and they have a very high emotional development and involvement with the reader, but that was very cut and limited with the anime, I hope that someday they will recognize that this manga is a masterpiece that deserves a place in the sun and a decent anime without cuts and excessive changes that compromise the experience that is really Tokyo Ghoul. I really like to think that, just like Ishida, we can relate to Kaneki. His physical appearance changes whenever he does (duh), but I never stopped to think about that transition Haise - reaper - Kaneki and how the hair could mean his past self. We are always looking back and wishing it was like that over and over, but we can't.
I really loved the manga and after watching your video, I actually feel like rereading it while taking my time and enjoying the artwork, instead of binging through the whole thing in a few days
Ishida has started a new manga called Choujin X and the art is just as great This time he also publishes chapters according to his own schedule which means he can take as long as he wants for a single chapter and isn't forced to pump one out weekly
Tokyo Ghoul has its flaws but I can't help but find it beautifully tragic, I have grown to love and understand each and every character, and the cover illustrations have always been my favourite. It's such a unique and recognisable style and I personally love it a lot

Tokyo Ghoul is one of the best seinen series in psychological genre looking at how beautifully Ishida foreshadowed each event happening in vol 6 of re and further from part 1 was very hard to keep track of it yet beautifully done the only flaw it had was the rushed ending which was understandable considering Ishida's health issues still for me it is probably the only manga where the more u read of it always something new you discover it's like Ishida's style he always ussually gives u a hint or brings some parallelism a masterpiece for sure . And it will always be in top mangas

Tokyo Ghoul has been my favorite Manga for nearly nine years now. Along side berserk I think it is a master class in using the fantastical and horrific to depict humanity, our struggles, our emotions, and the world as a whole. So happy to see someone else speaking on Tokyo Ghoul's beauty. I feel like the series is easily discarded for being 'edgy', mostly thanks to the anime adaptation. But there is so much soul in each and every character and the story Ishida tells over all
Thanks for making this vid im currently reading chapter 101 of tokyo ghoul:re and i absolutely love the art and the series itself. They shoul make justice to the series and remake the anime because it missed most of the essence of the story.
I finished it this week, started by watching the first season when it came out, bought the whole series but never read it, 2 years after the last book came out i finally decided to read it, and as i expected, i loved it, pretty sad that it ended but so happy with how good it was
I’m very curious as to why the general consensus is that the series felt rushed and crude, I understand that ishida himself was very rushed and put under a lot of pressure, but I personally never felt that way, I don’t find it crude at all. Just wanted to know why people see it this way.
I just started tk it's really amazing seeing how the mangaka evolves artistically, Especially comparing chapter 1 to the chapter 1 remake or any chapter of Choujin X
Tbh i liked the happy ending, i was rly depressed and saw so many of my favorite things end so poorly, i just was so happy they figured it all out, but yes it was rushed
Interesting enough about the burn out now with his new manga which seems to be a passion project he does it with 0 deadlines 0 editors 0 assistants, everything in that manga is done solo and honestly you can see that he's actually having fun drawing and writing for it. I'd say he improved a lot as a writer and Artist since TG:Re and I'm finding CHoujin X to be even better than the original TG. Panels are easier to read especially the aciton scenes has the same is easier to read, story has alot of character focused and to imo a better side cast with a main focus on a trio of Tokio, Azuma and Elly.

Honestly, TG was so great at showing us both sides of the fight. He didn't make the ccg out to be the villain, neither did he to the ghouls. He made them simply exist, the reader didn't always take a side coz both sides where humanised and explored. The humans ghoul are evil, to ghouls humans are evil, it went both ways. Kaneki served as a bridge between both sides, but he wasn't emphasised as a "chosen one" like lots of series do with their mc. Ishida made him feel like he was just a normal guy with real problems put in a situation that he had to adapt to. I love how natural he makes all his characters. Theirs allot of LGBT characters, but their presented as normal people which I love. Coz lots of creaters present LGBTQ as a special character trait that needs to be emphasised. But ishida just shown people as normal, dealing with the fantacy situation and real like issues. Honestly I would study this book instead or romeo and Juliet. That's how good it is.
I love sui ishida art , and tokyo ghoul is one of my favourite manga , and unfortunately the anime is quite bad but the soundtrack are amazing expecially "unreavel" the manga isn't perfect some time maybe too many dialogues and the final struggled and isn't perfect because the magazine hurried ishida and at the end of volume 16 we can read what you said at the and of the video , ishida said : " i starting to hate tokyo ghoul but i continued and I put all myself in in drawing because of you keeping to read my manga and that made me happy " so at the end I loved tokyo ghoul and the characters, always in my heart ♥

I stopped drawing for 3 years, and after reading his manga, I got inspired and started drawing again.
His art style for the covers is so unique you can really tell if it is drawn by him.
I loved ishida's artstyle in :re, the characters looked more dignified and showed more individuality. The emotions were very clear in them as well.

Studio Pierrot is synonymous with butchering anime, look what they did with Naruto, bleach and boruto, 3 great mangas ruined by filler

I've always liked how the characters in this series evolved, how it conveyed humanity in this otherwise depressing uncaring world, how many humans were just as cruel as demons and the ones seen as demons were some of the most human people, the guy who ran anteiku (been a while since I read TG) was imo the one who had the most humanity inside of him, cared for others but also understood the situation he's been in for decades, but still does the best of it, he had his secrets and fought even if he would have preferred to not. Humans are flawed, it's about how we choose to act in those pressing times.
I really liked how you mentioned Kanekis hair turning black again as haise but ultimately still fading back to white.
Tokyo ghoul although having many horror elements has such a unique art style where it can have some really warm and heartfelt moments while being submerged in a sea of sadness
absolute masterpiece in all fields topped with the best art style i’ve ever seen.
I like Sui Ishida brushwork style, and the mellow music from the anime, perfect music to hear after do hard work.
I'm glad he's still working in Choujin X, you can probably see that he's now enjoying doing said manga.
It's in the artstyle and how it's written.
I'm really happy for him.
Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul :re remains and will forever remain my favourite anime/manga due to how dark yet so empathetic the characters and scenarios are throughout the development of the story. I personally feel like it's quite beautiful in a wonderfully twisted way
I absolutely fell in love with Tokyo ghoul when I gave it a shot, for so long I avoided it to eventually get to since everyone would trash talk it from what it seemed but after I saw it and then read into it I could say I was obsessed with it. It’s such a ride of emotions that I’m glad I experienced.
About the Tokyo Ghoul original & :re manga, I honestly think that this manga is totally underrated because of the anime and the fanbase of it, the story and its characters are amazing in the manga, and they have a very high emotional development and involvement with the reader, but that was very cut and limited with the anime, I hope that someday they will recognize that this manga is a masterpiece that deserves a place in the sun and a decent anime without cuts and excessive changes that compromise the experience that is really Tokyo Ghoul.

I really like to think that, just like Ishida, we can relate to Kaneki.
His physical appearance changes whenever he does (duh), but I never stopped to think about that transition Haise - reaper - Kaneki and how the hair could mean his past self.
We are always looking back and wishing it was like that over and over, but we can't.
Sui Ishida is very impressive mangaka to release it weekly and still maintaining it artistic looking, I really love his water coloring.
I really loved the manga and after watching your video, I actually feel like rereading it while taking my time and enjoying the artwork, instead of binging through the whole thing in a few days

This time he also publishes chapters according to his own schedule which means he can take as long as he wants for a single chapter and isn't forced to pump one out weekly

Tokyo Ghoul has its flaws but I can't help but find it beautifully tragic, I have grown to love and understand each and every character, and the cover illustrations have always been my favourite. It's such a unique and recognisable style and I personally love it a lot

Tokyo Ghoul is one of the best seinen series in psychological genre looking at how beautifully Ishida foreshadowed each event happening in vol 6 of re and further from part 1 was very hard to keep track of it yet beautifully done the only flaw it had was the rushed ending which was understandable considering Ishida's health issues still for me it is probably the only manga where the more u read of it always something new you discover it's like Ishida's style he always ussually gives u a hint or brings some parallelism a masterpiece for sure
. And it will always be in top mangas

Tokyo Ghoul has been my favorite Manga for nearly nine years now. Along side berserk I think it is a master class in using the fantastical and horrific to depict humanity, our struggles, our emotions, and the world as a whole. So happy to see someone else speaking on Tokyo Ghoul's beauty. I feel like the series is easily discarded for being 'edgy', mostly thanks to the anime adaptation. But there is so much soul in each and every character and the story Ishida tells over all

I finished it this week, started by watching the first season when it came out, bought the whole series but never read it, 2 years after the last book came out i finally decided to read it, and as i expected, i loved it, pretty sad that it ended but so happy with how good it was
I’m very curious as to why the general consensus is that the series felt rushed and crude, I understand that ishida himself was very rushed and put under a lot of pressure, but I personally never felt that way, I don’t find it crude at all. Just wanted to know why people see it this way.

Interesting enough about the burn out now with his new manga which seems to be a passion project he does it with 0 deadlines 0 editors 0 assistants, everything in that manga is done solo and honestly you can see that he's actually having fun drawing and writing for it. I'd say he improved a lot as a writer and Artist since TG:Re and I'm finding CHoujin X to be even better than the original TG. Panels are easier to read especially the aciton scenes has the same is easier to read, story has alot of character focused and to imo a better side cast with a main focus on a trio of Tokio, Azuma and Elly.

Honestly, TG was so great at showing us both sides of the fight. He didn't make the ccg out to be the villain, neither did he to the ghouls. He made them simply exist, the reader didn't always take a side coz both sides where humanised and explored. The humans ghoul are evil, to ghouls humans are evil, it went both ways. Kaneki served as a bridge between both sides, but he wasn't emphasised as a "chosen one" like lots of series do with their mc. Ishida made him feel like he was just a normal guy with real problems put in a situation that he had to adapt to.
I love how natural he makes all his characters. Theirs allot of LGBT characters, but their presented as normal people which I love. Coz lots of creaters present LGBTQ as a special character trait that needs to be emphasised. But ishida just shown people as normal, dealing with the fantacy situation and real like issues.
Honestly I would study this book instead or romeo and Juliet. That's how good it is.

I love sui ishida art , and tokyo ghoul is one of my favourite manga , and unfortunately the anime is quite bad but the soundtrack are amazing expecially "unreavel" the manga isn't perfect some time maybe too many dialogues and the final struggled and isn't perfect because the magazine hurried ishida and at the end of volume 16 we can read what you said at the and of the video , ishida said : " i starting to hate tokyo ghoul but i continued and I put all myself in in drawing because of you keeping to read my manga and that made me happy " so at the end I loved tokyo ghoul and the characters, always in my heart ♥
