Ford Key Fob Battery Replacement

- How to replace the batteries in the key fob used on many Ford Explorer, Ford Edge, and Ford Fusion vehicles with pushbutton start and remote start. If you are getting "No Key Detected" or "Restart Now or Key is Needed" messages you might need to replace the batteries in the fob.
This key fob was used on many of the following years and models:
2015-2016 Ford Edge
2016-2017 Ford Explorer

Your video was a lifesaver. I was out of state and stranded with a car that would not start. There were no rental cars available. The guy at Home Depot put my batteries in wrong to my key fob. After watching several videos yours was the first one that told me exactly how to put the batteries in and my car just started! I had my other key fob overnighted to me. Glad my video was so helpful. There is something else you should know. There is a way to get your car to start even when the batteries in the fob are dead. The fobs contain an RFID chip that is similar to what is in those badges you can scan to get into secure buildings, where you just wave your badge near a reader. Each type of car has a certain place where you have to place the key fob to allow it to read that chip when the batteries in the fob are dead. In my 2017 Explorer there is a small key fob size slot inside the center console storage compartment down in the bottom front. If you insert the fob into that spot, and press the start button, the vehicle should start. If you have a different vehicle the spot where you have to put the fob will be somewhere else, but it should be explained in your owners manual if you can find it in the 500 pages. :) Maybe I should make a video about that.

Great video, This worked for my 2016 Ford Fusion Titanium key. Thank you very much, this video saved me a trip to the Ford dealer$hip & $$$! I got 5 Panasonic CR2025 batteries, shipped to me, in 5 days, cheaper then I could get 2 at my local store. I went this way because I got a "Key Battery Low" warning from my car & I have a second key fob! Thanks for the Coin trick, I couldn't figure out how to get down to the battery until I seen this!

Try using the manual key inside to open instead of using a coin. Use the end without the loop.
I hesitate to use any key as a prying device but I suppose if you don't have a coin handy and you need to get your batteries replaced it could work fine. Thanks for watching.

Yes. I didn't know that either, plus I left the little vinyl tab that came on the battery and it prevented necessary contact Feel Kinda silly but figured it out finally on my own and this video confirmed what I thought.

Does the key need to be reprogrammed after replacing the batteries?
You shouldn't have to reprogram anything. I have never had to. I could see that possibly if you left a fob with dead batteries or removed batteries for a long period of time it might eventually forget it's code and have to be reprogrammed, but normally that doesn't happen.

What do we do if we lose the plastic thing that separates the batteries? Will any piece of plactic work?
Probably. Just cut a piece of plastic the same size as the batteries and put it in between and it will probably work fine.

I put everything back and everything that you told me on your video but when I put the light show is red What that means
Not sure what that means. I've never had that happen. I looked in my owners manual and the only thing I see there about a red light is if you try to do a remote start and the engine doesn't start it should blink red. I guess I'd recommend checking that the new batteries are actually good, inserted the right way, and make sure you put the white plastic spacer back in between the two batteries.
@@cdsmith Yes and that was the problem because the check engine light was on so probably they're going to change the more room so apparently that's what is the rate on the auto control thank you so much for responding and have a good day

CR2025 battery. You will need two of them.
It’s not as easy as you show it I never get it snapped back together with out say some choice words.
