Yes, I admire and appreciate her artistry. I dislike her often-unkind spirit and general negativity and meanness toward others. A lot of laudable artists are unlikable. They're not victims of others' unfair judgments and jealousy when they are disliked for being unlikable. Creativity and personality may be linked in a lot of cases, but creative works and the personality of the artist are not intrinsically linked. Any kind of art can be assessed on its own merits or lack of merits separately from the artist, and the same can be done of the artist's personality and actions separately from the works they produce. One of my creative writing instructors told us never to read biographies of our favorite artists because in almost all cases, the artists are vicious people and knowing about their personal lives inevitably will diminish our appreciation for their work-but the work can stand on its own if a person chooses to view it in isolation.
They dislike her because they are hatin azz bishes. Period. Michael and Whitney were both messy. People forget a lot when you’re gone. The same will happen with her. People love the Kardashians and Kanye West so I wouldn’t give them too much credit.
I don’t know about the youngsters, but we Gen X and Boomers are mostly just disappointed that she went from girl power, not conforming to beauty standards because she’s her own woman, “I’m gonna sing how I want, about what I want” to pumping herself full of fillers, trying to be super sexual with the 20-somethings, grandma still going for shock value. I can’t imagine the pressure female entertainers are under to hold on to their youth, but I wish we had more who were willing to say, “FU! I’m aging because that’s what happens to us all, but I still have my talent and will still create my art no matter how I look!”
