Presumably the EMD loco needed to be leading the train for whatever reason, hence all the shunting around? Nice walk along beside the locos, some nice sounds from the idling locos.
Maybe the leading loco had the most comfortable cab of the lot, airconditioning, toilet, pantry ? I have no idea how long the trip would take but when they have the choice ...
@@Schony747 I'm not actually from the US, but as far as I know double cabs are only used on dedicated passenger locomotives, mainly electrics on the North East Corridor, those are mostly built to European practices as they are altered European locomotive types (Europe has much more experience on modern electric traction for passenger traffic). As far as freight locomotives in the US go, there are no double cab designs, they run all trains with at least two locomotives and will have them as sets with cabs pointing outwards. Australias railways are a nice mix between European and American railway practices, and that's why they fascinate me.
Glad I subscribed, another great video ! I looked up Dunolly on Streetview, there they still have the old semaphore signals on the North side, you can see them from the crossing with Thompsonstreet. www.google.com/maps/place/Dunolly+VIC+3472,+Australia/@-36.8647767,143.7302987,680m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x6ad0eab9e735fcdb:0x40579a430a08cd0!8m2!3d-36.85!4d143.733333?hl=en
@@Schony747 Well I am not surprised. Nothing against the old girls doing there work, I think there are alot more than the GML 10 that don't meet emission standards. Just look at all the Alco 830 class, great loco's sound awesome but I worry in this age of emissions that the greenies are looking at everything that puffs out some black exhaust to ban it. I am old old school, nothing sounds better than an old girls working on hands & knees, belowing out thick black coal from the stack moving tonnage, be it a locomotive or truck. But there days are numbered & it's people like you that will keep the memory alive for us old timers. Otherwise a great video, listening to it on the stereo. Keep the great video's coming

The crews further down the line wanted GML10 leading which lead to all the shunting around.

Leo Starrenburg it’s design is a carbon copy of an class and mechanically it is a DL class. I’ve heard good stuff about the Ns so maybe that’s why.
Good video and good description to explain what was going on.
Thanks. I try and make it interesting where I can.
Much clag! Nice video Brenden!
excellent footage !
Cool video.
awesome video Schony747 :)
Thanks again 😀😀
Yes, those STRANGE DOUBLE CAB LOCOS , AND SO,IT GOES, ! CHEERS FROM NJ...USA🇦🇺🇺🇸
How many double cabs do they have in the US?
The 80 & 830 class locos are Alco powered Australian built

🇦🇺🇺🇸thanks Australia for relying on American locomotives
GML10=cool
Victoria doesn't see it much these days but it's still a favourite among enthusiasts
@@Schony747 but the N class looks similar
Wonder how much fuel 4 loco's idling uses? Awesome . . .
No idea but drivers tell me it's the best way to get a longer life out of the motor. Stopping and starting is no good for it at all
apparently.
@@Schony747 Isn’t that the rule for most Diesel engines? I’ve heard that about the simple turbo diesel ute too.
Nice video got to send this on my UA-cam channel hope u can see that train in my UA-cam channel on a video
I can't find the channel. You'll have to send me a link

Has anyone done a environmental impact study on these old bangers.
No Euro 5 here, if the Greenies find out about them they demand they get scraped.
Probably. GML10 can't run in NSW for that very reason.

Yes, barely measurable compared with the real sources of emissions, such as industry in China
@@louiskats5116 Don’t let them look at the locos in Ukraine/Moldova/Russia 🤭😂
