Ego may like to approach these challenges with an air of awkward coolness, but you can definitely see he's taking it incredibly seriously, paying attention to detail. Also maybe it's just me, but has Maxine seemed a bit charmed by Ego in these last two episodes?

KC97 He actually began taking The Tester seriously when he started to like the people he was working with. He got let go shortly after for that BS you-should've-predicted-your-teammates-couldn't-fire-the-slingshot-as-well-as-you-so-you-should've-stuck-around-to-teach-them-how-to-fire-it-instead-of-going-back-for-more-ammunition-even-though-that-action-probably-would've-earned-you-praise-had-your-teammates-hit-their-targets explanation.

Kroad, you have to understand a dancer's mentality. They are similar to actors on stage. You become a character when you go on stage. While you may tap into your own memories or feelings to express the emotions on stage, you are still in character. So essentially it will never be Maxine and Arin loving each other or feeling angry at each other in a piece, but rather the characters they portray. And I am sure Suzy is aware of that seeing as she has experience in modeling/performing/etc.
