- Mawtini (Arabic: موطني "My Homeland") is a popular poem written by the Palestinian poet Ibrahim Touqan (Arabic: إبراهيم طوقان) in 1934. It was the de facto national anthem of Palestine since then and until 1967. It is also recognized in Syria and Algeria, as well as other Arab states, as an anthem as to show their support for the Palestinian cause. The original music was composed by Muhammad Fuliefil (Arabic: محمد فليفل). During the years it became very popular through the Arab world.
In 2004 it was re-adopted, on the order of Coalition Provisional Authority chief Paul Bremer as the national anthem of Iraq. It replaced the old anthem Ardh Alforatain, which was in use from 1981 to 2004 and associated with Saddam Hussein's Baath regime.

I'm Palestinian and this was our national anthem for a while, I learn this when I was 6 alongside with fidai, now I have 16 and I proudly sing both anthems in memory of my Jadd who was also Palestinian and fought against the occupation of our country. Long live filastin and Iraq🇵🇸🇮🇶❤️

Hey I'm from India. And I just fell in love with 'Mawtini'. Especially with its lyrics and its meaning. I don't know why I can relate this anthem with our Mother India also. Especially, when our India was not Independent. The way our national heros (Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Baghat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad, Khudiram Bose, etc.) fought for our independence. This anthem sounds like what they used to sing when they fought for India. I simply cannot express what I'm feeling after listening to this anthem. I just love it.

Astrology x Freak all what you said is true but yu got shias and sunnis mixed up. sunnis were the ones who thrived under saddam last regime because saddam was sunni himself and he hated shias. but yea your right, my mom told me stories about how they were so afraid during the wars that they built a bomb shelter with their own hands in their backyard because my city(Basra) is very very very close to iran so during the war us iraqis in basra were scared we were gonna get bombed, but thank god we didn’t. and even in the kuwait war basra was very close to kuwait so even then they were scared to even step outside. a lot of my dad’s family died in the 8 year war with iran so when he was drafted for the kuwait war he refused to fight for a leader who hated his people, so him and some other people walked all the way to saudi arabia and managed to get a visa to go to america. for 15 years straight he didn’t visit iraq nor did he talk to his family in iraq because he was afraid that if he did saddams police would kill him or his family members as punishment. but then finally saddam was kicked out and he came back and lived in iraq from 2004-2006 where he met my mom and married her and then they moved back to america for safety.
Astrology x Freak yeah your right, i honestly want to live in iraq but the only problem is all the wars and terrorism and stuff like that. i visited iraq in 2019 and wallah i’ve never seen so much beauty and culture in my life. it wasn’t even close to being what i was expecting, i was expecting there to be terrorists everywhere and for it to be all dessert and everyone’s worried for their lives, but no i can’t even count how much times me and my uncle would go for a walk to this bread shop to buy some bread and rice and he would leave the door of my house open and when i’d remind him he’s just tell me that no one steals here. like the culture there is wayyyyyyyy different then in america. in america without a car you can’t even survive but in iraq they walk everywhere for everything. the only time we really used our car was when we traveled to Kufa, Najaf, Karbala, and Baghdad for the pilgrimage of the imams. like i was expecting iraq to be a poor country but in najaf the dome of imam ali mosque is made of pure gold and it’s so beautiful. once i finish my education and go to college and do stuff like that me and my family are going to move back to iraq.
