  • One common criticism I've seen of PSO2NGS recently is that some of the rare drops are far too difficult to get. In this video, I'll give my perspective on this from a long-time PSO player. Not only do I want to discuss where NGS could make changes, but I also hope this is informative for those who may not have played the earlier online Phantasy Star games.

For 3 months I never get anything dropped which pretty annoying, no tisah no octo, the drop rate is horrible, so far this probably the biggest issue I have with the game.
I understand the old game have way worse drop but still NGS doesn't have this justification why they made Tisah that rare of a drop, this item you mentioned something like Elder Pain, Elysion for example is definition of game changer, to have this weapon drop like a candy obviously broken but Tisah doesn't have this trait of game changing potential to justify it's rarity, from unleash hidden potential the weapon is pretty mediocre at best, I'd say it's better for Sega to keep using Fixa drop is the real rare drop because it does add pretty significant amount to the calculation.
The problem is people didn't get even the nornal version after farming for so long, that's kind of discouraging, at least give us something really beside pity weapon, my equipment all is pity equipment octo with Def 1, termina 1 verzmel, I've run more than 1000 times LC and nothing good dropped, I already have more than 250 LC caps that I need something like gigas maste and stuff. So far RNG is not really great.
I also done LTQ and none of those arnor dropped for me, like it's pretty dissapointing to be that way.
I've done everything like using rdr on pso2 day and it still doesn't drop.
I understand that this equipment probably will have better drop next update or later but still this is stupid, unfair and annoying.
Sega should instead make ultra hard content like solus drop this equipment at reasonable rate, as for now what's the use of releasing solus of the drop rate is as trash as fighting pse bosses? I see no point in farming solus or harder content, there is no drive, no incentives to do so.
Please stop putting trash in ultra hard content loot, instead put something useful in it like duela/formido fusia, gigas IV, strugment, or something like 10 of notes of ael battle zone and put reasonable drop for Tisah.
Stop putting something like might, precision, tech IV in solus, something like greaga, or whatever irrelevant drop should not put in solus.

You really identified a lot of the issues. I miss the armor units from PSO1 that gave augmented abilities like attack and technique framespeed increase. There really was a variety of things to hunt and a true reason to play alts in those days. I'm not sure today's modern lootbox live service gamblers ever got a chance to appreciate the old style....
    Thanks for keeping it alive.

EDIT: 23:17 onward pretty much summed up a bunch of my issues, I should've waited until that part before posting my wall of text, but osfhjikfd what you gonna do? >.>
NGS player with like 3500h & PSO2 at 500h. Having started PSO1 a month ago on the Schtack server, the difference is blatantly obvious in design alone. I'm probably still rather unequipped to talk about this, but this is how I feel after raising one character to lvl 47, and two others to lvl 26.
PSO1 released as a finished game. Sure, the console releases didn't have "everything" from the get-go, but relative to their own bubble, it's static in a sense. Which is good here. Everything is designed from beginning to end with a point, and everything piece of equipment has a place to exist.
It's also great that enhancement isn't mandatory for a weapon to be "useful" in the early/midgame in my experience. In NGS, the power creep is so real between a +50 and a +60 already, and now we're already reaching +90. In PSO1, loot enhancement isn't as much of a factor.
The section ID is the obnoxious part, especially since you don't really "choose" it. It's generated based on the name you input. Currently, my FoNewearl has a nasty habit of dropping tons of both common and rare Hunter weapons, even solo, because she's Oran I guess, and I can't for the life of me find Mind Materials. Find tons of Power Materials though. I'm happy for my Hunter friend, but I'm getting rather deficient on anything not support related.
However, since buffs/debuffs are HUGE in that game, I don't mind taking more of a support role. NGS doesn't really have that, every class is a DPS, and the support part acts more as a neat bonus rather than being life-changing.
So the rare drops in PSO1 by early/midgame are nice when they come, frustrating when they don't, but they're not preventing my unlucky ass from being useful.
Meanwhile, NGS constantly moves the goalposts due to PSO2's live service roots, and its weapon design feel very much like "this weapon series releases later = it's stronger = previous weapons series become obsolete". Also since these are weapon series, individual weapons cannot be unique, unlike in PSO1.
Since NGS plays very fast, you also hit endgame rather fast, or at least you used to. Now it doesn't matter anyways, since they hand over weapons that invalidate a lot of the earlygame costs we used to have at release. Weapons/Units like Renaissa and Hextra are received pretty early, and have very little to no costs of upgrading (Potential lvl 6 free is INSANE. So BUSTED.).
NGS nowadays is developed in a way that it tries to shortcut a majority of early & mid gameplay content to slingshot you towards an endgame state. This also is very annoying as a longtime player, because the weapon/unit enhancement is so expensive and the Argenti/Argenkul type weapons so free, that you see loads of players encouraged to fall in this beginner's trap and using them instead in tough content.
If you somehow got lucky and own a Relik weapon when you hit lvl 30, or got a Tisah at lvl 80, these weapons are pretty much useless. Not as useless as Argenti/Argenkul when fully upgraded funnily enough, but the hassle & money you have to spend on upgrading is not worth the trouble.
As such, rare weapon & unit drops in NGS don't have any meaning until its always evolving endgame. In PSO1, since level progression is slower, gear progression is tons more natural and way less expensive, any rare related to your current level and that you can use is relevant. The only caveat becomes whether or not you vibe with the weapon type.

Love the video and great to see I'm not the only one that has issues with PSO2 NGS. The problem I have with it is that, as you stated, weapons in PSo had character. Heaven's punisher, Lavis cannon, Tsumi J sword etc all had unique special actions.
Another thing is that the gameplay is vastly different. The world of NGS if static and doesn't change where as the forest, caves, mines and ruins had map variants that gave more variety to the runs. Meanwhile in NGS, you don't get rare drops in the exploration zones. You pretty much are running the combat zones which are just loops. Things like LCE, geo lab and stuff were a step in the right direction but the micro length focus on the content makes it not fun to hunt for anything either. Quests need to be longer and more immersive. Simply put, it's not fun to hunt the weapons and the weapons we do have to hunt don't have anything special about them.

Thanks for watching! I do still enjoy NGS, but I just don't find rare drop hunting in it fun compared to PSO. If NGS had more variety and character in the rare gear it'd be a big improvement. PSO rare hunting was very repetitive, but for some reason I never got tired of it. I lost count how many times I ran Lost Ice Spinner for Yasha and PW4 for SJS 😂

    • @gkagara

Here is my take on this, what we have today in NGS is like base game in episode 4, believe me there is not much in base game before episode 5 and above there is only 1 type of weapon series before more being added to the pool.
And no Verzmel is not weaker than Tisah if you can upgrade it to respectable level Ike termina 3 for example, Verzmel is good for some class that have many hits, slayer unfortunately can't use verzmel it's not for them.
With no Tisah slayer better using fixa 3-5 termina neos astraean.
As you can see the weapon somewhat do have degree of variety, if you care about min max you can even use neos justinean for that, neos justinean is superior, easier to get than Tisah and to get one with good fixa that a game changer in situational circumstances like fighting solus or fighting DFA.
I do agree NGS equipment is lacking in unique hidden potential, this also a suggestion from JP community btw so we are not alone in this issue.

The fault with weapons not feeling unique is sadly the introduction of the multiweaponsystem and a part of the playerbase that wanted it (I know that sounds stupid).
At the release of the game we didn't have every weapontype for every weaponseries (foursis, resurgir the elemantal weapons etc.) but people got mad that they couldn't multiweapon the foursis rod with resurgir tmg for example which resulted in sega changing it and the end product is what we have now bland not unique weapons.
The only way that changes if they somewhat change the way you can use the multiweapon system like beeing able to multiweapon the same rarity instead of the same name or something similar to it until they do something about that we probably won't be seeing any of the cool unique weapons like in the older pso games.

I'm a PSO veteran. I played PSO for Dreamcast and Xbox for thousands of hours. Back in 2000, PSO was the only game in town and it was amazing. Rare drops were RARE and only 1 drop would fall among a group of players. It was what it was but we loved it. I only found a few rares in all of my time playing PSO. Only when the dupiclating weapons become prominent I had had some seriously wicked weapons such as the J sword, Twinblaze, and Black King Bar. The rare weapons were game changers. You really felt unique when you had a top notch rare weapon. Now in 2023 PSO is competing with a ton of other games and it must evolve to be a good game with rewards and challenges and reasons to play and sink actual money into the game.
BTW in PSO my section ID was Purplenum and later Redria.

Yo I still have that 1975 katana that my first character, a Ranger Yellowboze, found simply by just running through the forest. Normally with drop rates that difficult, red box is usually a photon drop which does suck but just this one time, I can say I found it.

Yeah, I do miss it, but at the same time this likely reduces any sort of duping. Or at the very least makes it harder. From DC to GC everything was super duped. Everyone had everything. 13 year old me loved that, but as a 40 year old that wants a reason to hunt, I can lose the red box drop if it means things are actually rare.

  • @coleeddins6093

Dude I just loved how in classic PSO, if you got a rare drop, you would always be so excited on what you got! It fun to see how rare weapons were unique and different and they actually felt rare! Some weapons came with new moves and abilities that were unique to the rare weapon. It was always so fun to find a rare weapon. PSO NGS weapons are largely just series weapons and they don’t do much other then make your numbers go up. I miss how unique and different the rares looked and felt in the classic PSO. Maybe I’m just missing the classics days.

    • @SectionSkyly
      @SectionSkyly  8 місяців тому +1

I still like NGS but there's no denying that the PSO weapons and armour had more character to them. Weapons like the 'cursed' Yamigarasu that would drain your HP and randomly confuse you, through to weapons that were complete memes (Samba Maracas or Crazy Tune anyone?). With NGS following the same approach as PSO2 almost every weapon is part of a series so that uniqueness is lost. Hopefully that changes over time.

I found a Sjs last year after a month long hunt and a Syncesta yesterday when I was looking for a completely different thing. With my ID which ofc is skyly they have a similar drop rate. Cool thing about pso is that sometimes you hunt for a rare maybe for months and can't find it but some other times you just find an uber rare out of pure luck when you're not even looking for anything in particular or you're just having fun playing. Cause you know, pso was and still is actually very fun to play, instead of ngs which is very much boring and uninspired.

You hit the nail on the head. The problem in pso2 and ngs is that there is no mid game, every update is just another endgame grind, and the mid game where people used to sink time to get easy rares was replaced in ngs with the zzzz seasonal events and free hand outs. I think versh could have been a good midway grind, kind of like how some generic weapons with good hit can match and even out-perform some ubers, but the fixa upgrade system is merciless x.x. And it is kind of a live service issue, but it does cheapen the experience immeasurably to know you're doing a SJS grind on what is essentially an early game rare.

    • @gkagara
      @gkagara 11 місяців тому

At the end of this month you have chance to upgrade your verzmel to be somewhat comparable to Tisah you need to get it to fixa 3 termina btw, fixa 5 Verzmel is much powerful than fixa 2 fatale, fixa 3 attack and fixa 5 termina Tisah.
There is mid game in LTQ you get somewhat lesser version of octo sheza, beta arga that doesn't have all potency, IMO LC octo is better because it's general multipurpose armor good for any class you can save money by not making multiple armor for different class.

    • @ResPSO

@@gkagara The support SG scratch is a good example of sega creating a problem to sell players the solution. It also doesn't matter for slayer specifically since termina 4 neos and termina 3 neos J (vs light weak) are still stronger than a term 5 vers. Knowing sega, the scratch is going to be a trap too; knowing them it's probably gonna be bloated with useless nonsense at high rates, and super low rates on the actually useful stuff. When sega starts giving out S augments there's usually better ones coming around the corner too, so whatever benefits the scratch gives may be super short lived and very expensive.
LTQ is also not a mid game because it's temporary, the armors are BiS, and not common enough to be comparable to a mid game drop, especially if you're comparing to other phantasy star games. Base octos don't really fit that description either, the purpose of a mid game is to continue the gameplay loop at a higher level. But there is no gameplay loop. The actual midgame farm we have atm is spending 100k meseta to get eclair armors and budget autments, or getting free handouts from events.

Tisah drop rate is much worse than the ones showed I'm pretty sure. We have centralized whole ship auction house and never got more than 3 of them on it. Competent groups vaporize about a thousand mobs per PSE and usually thats gonna be 4-8 players so 4k-8k drop chances per PSE. And thats before talking about +RDR considerations. Unless Tisah is a boss drop only like Relik & Rugged used to be. Honestly the overall drop rate is so far in unicorn territory I still have no idea because nobody in my close or far circle has got one anywhere.
But thats only part of the issue in this poorly designed game. Even if you end up getting one it's neither transformative in your gameplay or a really broken OP/feel good DPS boost. From my understanding the pso1 weps like psycho wand used to be that way and not a 5% dps increase from the common trash everybody else has. And you still get to play the RNG augment game on top of that.
It is just a smokescreen to pretend that there is something at all to chase and detract from the fact the game needs an entire drop/craft/itemization loop rethink and do over. Which won't happen with a lead producer that doesn't even play the damn game 'because its not needed to do my job'
Also I fully disagree with verschmelz being creative or interesting. Versch always crit, great. Crits in ngs are just +20% dmg, the weapon itself has potency bonus of -12% dmg (I think) so its just the most boring weapon in the world that always does +8% dmg on every hit (spare me the dps formula details) If crits procced any kind of effect in the game it would have been interesting but as it is now it isn't.

    • @SuperDifference
      @SuperDifference 10 місяців тому +1

Your math is wrong a bit. If you’re doing PSE and not killing random mobs apart from the other group members, It wouldn’t go up to 8k just cause there’s 8 players. I’d assume you would be keeping together as a group to get PSE more effectively. As for the bosses being the only ones who drop the rare weapons, that’s definitely the case. If random mobs dropped it there would be far more.
Also, let’s be honest…The amount of players actually grinding hard to reach the threshold of a weapon dropping is very low. The majority of players aren’t grinding that hard. The percentage of the ones grinding hard enough for a weapon of Tisah rarity to drop is very low.

  • @rovaljax
    @rovaljax 11 місяців тому +1

I'll be honest, i dont have a problem with rare drop rate, RNG will always be an aboslute bstrd if it doesnt go our way. I get why it feels bad but for me it is what it is when something uses randomization as part of their concept. It would be nice to see more weapons given the crafting treatment, especially ones where its legimately useful to an extent that it would be considered a viable alternative but I can't help but feel that the community and the devs may have brought this on ourselves after the former had a tizzy in Kvaris and Stia's craftable weapons (even if powercreep's gonna render them obsolete later on, thats not gonna change).
If anything, RNG being an absolute bstrd's par for the course in this genre of games (Destiny 2 and the now defunct Anthem come into mind). And even if ngs is still gonna be everyone's dead horse to beat on i still consider ngs as my favorite in mmos and not all favorite games need to be given huge amounts of time to dedicate.

@@SectionSkyly Other people trashing on something you still love isnt new (I still love Starbound and Dnd 5th edition, despite those two game's problems). We have forgotten that games are meant to be played to have fun, the challenging bits serving that purpose but still fun and in the process of desiring masterpieces like FFXIV, whatever fromsoft releases and now Baldur's Gate 3 we kinda made those unable to meet our expectations treated as trash when it may be still someone's treasure. Games are still works of art and quality of something like art's subjective. Plus its a fine line between constructive/reasonable criticism and vitriol when it comes to online discussion.

if you need much dmg for the dmg check at endgame but cant get the items for it, the game sucks! look at op classes as slayer and braver katana theyre hit ech slash 4-12-25-50k dmg and then at classes like fighter faster yes but much lower dmg 200-633 .... really sega? (fighter need not more dmg it needs more hits :D)
give evertime only buffs at overload is stupid all get dmg buff and fighter only a buff in the worst buff ever you deal a bit more dmg but get 650% more dmg in the face .... really sega? if a pa deal less dmg the normal attack its useless to use!
okay now at rdr its not exists old days the loot chance was crap now 20years later its too crap noone play a game who you cant enter the endgame bcz dmgcheck!
old times was gaming only for nerds and hardcore gamers but this times are gone gaming is much more casual today so you look at you gaming time and think its nor worth play the game
i was at pso2 base 12000hours farming and get not really all i want,
at ngs is my time now 7650hours and i get noting what i want farming 2000hours on a rareboss and never see the weapon,
loot sucks hard but this isnt the problem at all the biggest problem at the game is we get so much events and everytime again new weapons that are mosttimes useless at 1 update later,
so why we need too farm for it?
rare drops are only good for sell thats all!
if you can get much meseta without grind 10000years of grind you can buy stuff faster,
if you dont care cosmetics you need no money :D
the only fail what sega has done is too think players of ngs are old players who play the old games of ps...
i never heared ever anything of phantasy star befor 2013 but from 1987 till now too much from games like final fantasy,
so whats problem at all? the problem is sega dont cares what gamers want and fails at marketing at the world,
sega has in jp and na servers but what is with the complette EU?
the most ppl dont know this games exists!
the most gamers are new think it looks good, fight is fun but the game sucks!
so if the games sucks theyre not play it again or like me play if content comes out bcz. rdr isnt exists! :D
