when u do it, seems like hoop is very light but when I tried doing magical tricks, it feels too heavy, i think I need more practice with it. my hoop is little heavy. BUt loved ur session. u have good tricks and tips for ur students. -From Delhi, India-
Hi Sanghsheel! It's a tricky one with isolations...it's helpful and important to practice them very slowly while you're learning. This helps make sure you are correctly hitting the right spots with your arms and developing good technique to make them look smooth. The problem with this though, is that the slower you move your arm, the less you have momentum on your side working to help you move the hoop with more ease. So it's all muscle muscle muscle! This is where people generally WANT to switch to a smaller/lighter hoop to learn these moves. For my students I personally don't encourage this, unless they absolutely have to, as learning tricks like this with your bigger hoop a) helps develop your muscle strength to execute this smoothly and b) allows you to flow movements together in your dance with the one hoop you can spin on your body as well (to save having to jump between big and little hoop during your dance routine). My tips are to...practice a little each day, giving your muscles enough time to recover and switch arms. Alternatively, IF your hoop is just too large and heavy for you to do this without pain or discomfort, learn on a smaller hoop, but slowly aim to work your way up in strength to do it with your normal hoop. Once you start getting the technique down, you can make the movements faster without losing your technique and the momentum will really kick in to help you along! Hope that makes sense and is helpful for you. Keep at it!! Caitlyn x
Pretty cool trick 👍 You are right, the isolation DOES look better when the rest of your body is moving. 🆒😎🆒. Wishing you continuing success & stay safe! ✌
That's so wonderful to hear. A nice slow way to ease yourself into dancing is to get the moves you are really comfortable with and dont have to think about and start adding in a little movement with your feed. e.g. maybe spinning on your hand but stepping side to side to the beat of the music/ doing a weave in your hands and step, touch with your foot on the ground etc. Just start incorporating the movement slowly and it will start to feel natural like the rest of it. Have fun!!

So cool!!! I love hula hoop and I really want to learn more advanced hooping. Do you need a special hoop for this? I just have an ordinary hoop from the toy store.
Hi there! Yes, for hoop dance we recommend purchasing a specialised 'dance hoop'. They're made for adult hoop dance so you can easily on-body hoop dance and do tricks. This is my shop: spinjoy.com.au/collections/hula-hoops/products/body-rock-dance-hula-hoops
Hi Bee, as I posted on another comment you left, for your height (assuming you are average size around the waist) i'd recommend a 90-95cm hoop. Weighted would be roughly 300-400grams depending on the style of hoop you get. You want to stay away from the ultra light weight "polypro" hoops that even when made to a large size, will still not be heavy enough to properly spin on your waist. You can check out the full range of hula hoops I make and sell here: spinjoy.com.au/collections/hula-hoops
Ugh, I'm so determined to learn this! At first I had a weighted sectional hoop, too big. Then I bought this almost neon blue one, but it's still hard to keep my grip! Should I buy grip tape? Because I really don't want to.. what am I doing wrong? Why is the hoop not stable? :(
@@SpinJoyHoopDance Err, I would, but I have no idea how😅 Let me describe it for you instead. When I keep my hands at 6, the hoop is so slippery that it kind of falls down, and this also prevents me from being able to perform smoothly. Thank you for the quick reply, I was honestly not expecting anything😊
@@oddball1336 you really need to be holding the hoop tightly in your hand. It shouldn't be able to slide through your fist if you are squeezing firmly enough. You can add some grip to the inner circumference but it sounds like you are probably just not holding it tight enough. Hope that makes sense!
@@SpinJoyHoopDance Thank you so much!😊 I was afraid I would have to do drastic changes, luckily not! Your channel was actually the first one that taught me how to spin the hoop around my waist, and here I go again watching your videos! You're the first ones I turn to whenever I need help. Thank you😁
Hiya Bee! When recommending a hoop, we really need to take into account your waist circumference as well as height. For your height I would recommend starting on a 90-95cm weighted dance hoop. If you carry extra weight around your middle section, i'd go up a size (95-100cm) or larger if plus size. Hope that helps! Please let me know if you need more info. I make and sell hoops here: spinjoy.com.au/products/body-rock-dance-hula-hoops
If you'd like to be able to learn to hula hoop on your body (waist chest shoulders legs) it's recommended to get a weighted larger hula hoop. The size and weight varies significantly from person to person based on personal body types. My beginner hoop was approx 100cm OD and weight approx 350-400grams. I am 5'8 and a size 10 AU. If you are larger around the waist you want to size up in a hula hoop. Or more petite size down a little bit. Some people also like to get an alternative much smaller light weight hoop to practice hand tricks but these make the waist hooping very very difficult or impossible.

Hi Deepika! I'm using a dance hula hoop. For this trick you can use smaller hula hoops too. The very large chunky "fitness" hoops may be too heavy though. This is the hula hoop you can see in this video: spinjoy.com.au/products/body-rock-dance-hula-hoops
I am going to play this 100 times until I get it. I get it all the way until I have to grab the other side. It doesn’t look fluid for me, you can tell I’m jumping to the other side
if you feel like you have to do a panicky kind of jump across to the other side, try to practice doing the magic fingers part reaaaalllllyy slowly. You should be able to execute this movement at any speed, slow or fast and still have it stay in place. When you get the gist of the flexing of the fingers at the same time as you're reaching across with your arm, it will make more sense and you can speed it up from there. Hope that makes sense! Good luck!!
