  • One of the most common questions women ask is, “How do I use my hormone levels to determine the right HRT dosage?” In fact, there is more focus on hormone levels than on anything else. But, do hormone levels tell you what you need to know about HRT dosage? In this video, I’ll walk you through what you need to understand in order to assess the use of hormone levels for determining your HRT dosage.

    I want to Thank you so much for all the videos you make. I watch them every week. And yes I started at the beginning with your first one. Without you I would never have known the truth about Menopause and what my body was trying to tell me or the truth about HRT. My doctor never had a clue and said that HRT would not be safe and to be on the lowest does for the shortest time. I had such terrible symptoms for a couple of years that he would just ignore and said that’s what happens as you age. Then I found your channel!!! Luckily I had pre watched enough of your videos and had made notes to take with me for that big appointment to ask for HRT . That was over 2 years ago now and and within a few days of starting HRT was feeling better and with that knowledge am able to get the dosage increased when I feel my body telling me they are not quite high enough. You have improved my health, my quality of life and probably how long I live. So Thankyou from the bottom of my heart Menopause Taylor. From Michelle in New Zealand xx

I’ve been taken off HRT tablets due to aura migraines changing and a whole host of symptoms you listed and now on patch and progesterone tablets. 2 months in no improvement emailed doctors today asking for and increase to 75 instead of the 50 (as the doctor wanted me to start on the lowest dose) I get that but I can not wait for 4-6 months surely if it was enough my body would feel better within a month. No more waiting for me. It’s impacted my life so much I’ve had to reduce my working week to 2 days, I can’t wait train or go for long walks or fishing every week due to the exhaustion and pain.

    I am 57 & have committed to HRT this year after 2 trials of start/panic/stop over the past 5 years.
    I am now comfortably adjusted to estrogen replacement after gradually increasing over several months.
    So I have now found that I feel I need to try a little testosterone for labido, strength, & overall stamina(it’s like my get up & go got up & went & never came back! Lol)
    Im starting a low dose combo HRT, estratest today.
    Hoping for the best results! 😊🤞🏼🙏🏼
    My question is contemplative in nature about our design as women in general.
    Maybe you’ve answered in another video, or you don’t know, because maybe no one knows…but not sure.
    As a minister in the Christian faith, I am wondering why women, seemingly by physical design, are not made to have the hormones we need to function properly throughout the entirety of our lives?
    I get that we are designed to not need a reproductive level of hormones later in life because we don’t need to have babies that we may not live long enough to raise, but yet I also don’t believe we are designed to begin to physically progressively malfunction in order to die.
    I don’t know if I’m expressing this clearly…
    But I am wondering what has gone wrong in our design that we would have to live so many years without the vitality that our hormones provide by losing our hormones?
    Maybe my question is, do we scientifically know WHY our female bodies stop producing life giving hormones?
    Do we know WHY we go through menopause?
    What if I am a rare person of faith who believes we were not originally designed by our creator to go through menopause & that doing so is actually a malfunction rather than the norm that it has become accepted to be.
    I’m a little late to party by seeking these answers now after I am post menopausal but I guess I didn’t know to ask these questions until I experienced & battled with this very abnormal feeling process.
    So I’m wondering, can menopause be prevented if we are somehow proactive?
    Other than surgical situations…are we doing something in our lifestyle to induce/cause menopause?
    Or if that’s not it, is there something else in our bodies that was supposed to kick in after our reproductive years to compensate for the loss of reproductive hormones?
    Hope this makes sense.
    Because now that I am past the process & having to replace my own hormones to feel normal & alive, I am not believing this is how it was supposed to be by original design.
    I have felt like walking death at times from not having vital hormones & that seems like a malfunction not normal.
    Thanks for what all you do share to support women in this grueling menopause experience!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  Рік тому +60

      Crystal,
      Your question is a very good one for which there is a simple answer: We are outliving our ovaries.
      First, you have to understand that there is nothing “natural” about menopause. Other animals do not have a menopause. The normal life cycle is (1) Birth, (2) Reproduction, & (3) Death. That’s it!
      So, instead of living as menopausal women, we’re are all supposed to be dead! Mother Nature has a formula for how long each kind of animal lives. It's all about the heart rate. Every animal gets 1 billion heartbeats, and then it dies. That's why little tiny animals, like mice, with little tiny hearts that beat quickly, die in about 2 years. And that's why great big animals, like elephants, with great big hearts that beat very slowly, live for about 80 years.
      Based on this formula, humans are supposed to die at about age 47 ... before we go through menopause.
      The only reason humans aren't dying at age 47 is because of all our scientific and medical advances. So now humans are getting 2.1 billion beats. I call it your billion-beat bonus.
      I don't know about you, but I think of a billion-beat bonus as bonus time.
      The problem is that we outlive our ovaries and the hormones they produce. And that's what menopause is: loss of our female hormone estrogen.

      After reading your explanation, I can’t help but wonder about men. Many older men in their 60’s and beyond still father children. Therefore, I would assume that their hormones are in tact much longer than ours.
      Is my assumption accurate?

      My grandmother had a hard life on a small poor farm. She had 14 children. Her husband was a brute. She died from hemorrhaging after the last birth. Had she lived, she would have welcomed the relief menopause would have given her from serial pregnancies.

    • @melissahood2960
      @melissahood2960 Рік тому +14

      I think the reason for menopause is because having children throughout old age would be really hard on us. I do not believe we are meant to suffer during our periods or menopause. I believe we suffer because our bodies are weak from poor food quality, high stress and lack of exercise, sunlight, sleep and maybe not enough joy.

    Thank you for all the excellent information. I always felt a little bad, like I was doing something wrong, that I didn't have regular labs taken to check to see if my hormone level are adequate. I do have a few menopause symptoms on the dose of compounded bhrt that I take now of joint pain, meno fog, belly bloat and sometimes breakthrough bleeding. For some reason the last 3 months I get some cramps and start spotting when my daughters have their periods. Their periods are synced even though they don't live together and one of the daughters just started her period 3 months ago after she had a baby and that's when my fun started with hers. I let my provider know and she changed my prescriptions but after this last series I am in the process of getting estogel that is fda approved and possibly changing over to bhrt progesterone from the pharmacy as well. The provider mentioned .5 mg of estrogel but I requested 1 mg of estogel based on your information in the book and last video and either 100 or 200 mg of progesterone whatever they thought would keep me from break through bleeding. This is still confusing to me but I am honestly trying and will keep on watching your videos for any information that I can gather for my future and helping my girls! Thanks again, you are doing wonderful work and I really appreciate you!!

    I'm so happy I've found this channel, I've been struggling for years with meno and "finished" 2 years ago. I thought the awful symptoms would start to go away but it got progressively worse!!! I finally went in and started HRT 2 weeks ago, my symptoms got so much better it literally felt like I had forgotten what it felt like to feel a little normal again! I still wake up drenched and I have multiple night sweats but the daytime electrifying hot flashes have totally stopped☺️ I am overjoyed and never thought I would feel good ever again it was at that point. I go back in 2 weeks for my 1st month checkup and will ask about the night sweats still, but I'm already so grateful for feeling this much better, it's like I literally got my life back

    Love your lab paper visual, Dr. Barbie. Having had both blood/urine tests for hormone levels, which led to compounded bioidentical hormones that made me feel worse and caused regular post/menopausal breakthrough bleeding, I know you are spot on. Switched drs and now on FDA-approved estradiol patch and daily prometrium pill. Hoping to switch prometrium to another form due to some minimal side effects. Is patch form (in combo with estradiol) better option than pill? I know from your recent video that IUD is likely the best option. Thank you for keeping us “menomamas” well-informed!

    Editing to add that I am saving this video. THANK YOU Dr Taylor for clarifying the purposes of using HRT - to prevent against those diseases that are related to estrogen deficiency, rather than focusing on rECommEndED hORmoNE leVEls. I've been watching and learning from your videos for four years now, but this is the first time I have put that specific two and two together. So the levels that matter are those relative to estrogen-deficient diseases, i.e. dexa scans measuring bone loss, etc and that should be the focus, not what my hormone panels might detect, correct? I am one of those lab work women you put down and laughed at in this video. @@MenopauseTaylor I believe this is because so many have been pooh-poohed by their doctors. They start looking for answers and come across people who aren't experts but who may have had similar experiences or symptoms.
      My own doctor told me that she has patients get "addicted" (and she did the air quotes, so she's not diagnosing them with a true addiction) to HRT, and told me she would prescribe mine only for 5 years. I know from your videos that it's not necessary to limit the HRT (assuming my health doesn't prevent it in the future), so I will likely either have to debate with her (she doesn't mind it), or find another doctor.

    Love your informative videos and your sincerity and knowledge to help women of all stages.Seems like everyoe wants to talk about women in our menstruating, young, sexually active years, easy to obtain birth control as hormones yet no one including MD's want to talk about the 50 PLUS Years we as women will have when we are POST menopausal. SO happy to see you here helping women:-)
    My questions are: Let's say you're a Postmenopausal woman; quit menstruating 5 years ago, in great health, no history of breast cancer in the family, and you took Ortho Tricyclen and Lo Ovral for many years when you WERE still menstruating and did very well on them.
    NOW as a Postmenopausal woman wanting to 'get her hormone levels back up there and feel normal again,' do we as women try to get those 'same dosages as we were at as menstruating women' and maintain them , OR do we go for a bit lower dosages in a continuous dosage patch such as the Climara or Vivelle Dot for our Estrogen Replacement and an Intrauterine Device such as the Mirena or Skyla for our Progesterone ( levonorgestrel) replacement?
    * Just had all extensive Comprehensive Blood Labs done including Metabolic hormones, Sex hormones, Cardio Risk Factors, Comprehensive Thyroid panel, over 25 tests in all. My Primary doc knows nothing about ANY type of Hormone Replacement Therapy; Prescription pharmaceutical, herbal, nothing and the new OB/Gyn she referred me to doesnt have appointments until late September. I realize you can't prescribe anything, but could you address my questions on 'dosages' of hormones in Menopausal compared to Postmenopausal women goes? and are you accepting any new patients for consults? and can you still prescribe hormones after that consultation or is it necessary to be referred to a local menopause specialist?
    Thank you!

    First of all, you absolutely look gorgeous in that crushed red garnet velvet outfit! I always look forward to watching you every week for your outfit plus your very informative, very educational video. You make it so understandable.!!!Sadly, yes I’ve endured 10 years of labs and compounding pharmacy prescriptions of estradiol cream and testosterone cream and progesterone pills. I guess I’m just going to have to go get some prices from your website and make an appointment. However I don’t have any current labs because I’m due for my yearly labs so that my natural path doctor can tweak whatever. But before I spend money on labs, needless labs, maybe I should visit you first! I just wish, and big time wish that you could treat me personally. That’s what I really wish for. I know you will give me the education through my consultation but will I make the right choices after and do the right thing for my body is my worry. And where do I go

    I for one am definitely NOT a lab lover. Mine always come back normal and the dr says, “you’re fine” while charging me a fortune. I. Don’t. Like. Labs! I’ve told a doctor before, You’re an expert on the human body… I’m the expert on MY body. I know when something isn’t right.
    I’ve quit going to doctors for help because they base EVERYTHING on labs. I think they might cling to them for protection from malpractice lawsuits or something. Instead of treating us each individually, we’re just sources of revenue passing by them on a conveyor belt.
    When I was young I thought going to the doctor was like going to see the Oracle! LOL
    Even when I hit menopause… I told my Obgyn all the symptoms AND my absence of menstruation when I’ve always been like clockwork. Early Menopause runs in my family. He said no way because I was too young, (43). I finally DISMISSED HIM and said, well I know what the list of menopause symptoms are and I know my body. As he was walking out of the room, he relented in an annoyed shoulder shrug and told his nurse to go ahead and order LABS to check my levels for menopause but it was unlikely. The nurse called a week later to apologize and verified my test numbers were off the charts and I was DEFINITELY menopausal. And that was an OBGYN!
    Needless to say, I’m not looking forward to the battle to get HRT but based on the research Dr Barbie has presented, I’ve decided it’s worth the fight to at least try it out.
    Thank you Dr Barbie for the information and thorough explanations! Without telling us what to do, you arm us with the info to make our own informed decisions. And knowledge is power. I finally found an Oracle!!!

    Dear dr Taylor:
    funny one of these tests should be called "the Dutch test". I am Dutch, and I have so far not been able to find a single doctor over here that uses this test. As a matter of fact, I have not found a 'non-alternative' MD that uses hormone level tests at all, for reasons you just mentioned.

    Dear Dr Taylor , I agree totally what you said, which makes sense. However, in my opinion and from my own experience, it's perimenopause the most challenging to adjust right HRT regime and some help to monitor the hormones during the at least the first months would be helpful to avoid unnecessary overdose or the contrary. I'd like to know your opinion and/or a dedicated update video on that if not already available. I follow you since I entered into the 🎢 of a very badly PERImenopause , one year ago. Your videos very educational. Thank you and take care .

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  2 роки тому +1

      Your peri-menopausal needs will differ greatly from your post-menopausal needs. That's because peri-menopause is absence of only progesterone, while post-menopause is absence of BOTH estrogen and progesterone (with estrogen loss being the most important of the two by far).

    • @rrlafleur1549
      @rrlafleur1549 2 роки тому

      @@MenopauseTaylor Thanks for your Answer. It's indeed. Unfortunately, I'm experiencing symptoms of both progesterone and above all estrogen deficiency, despite the fact it drops slower at this stage. Like you explained back in your first vídeos, which have been extremely helpful for me. I only found temporary relief in HRT, but not totally exempt of other unwanted symptoms and issues. This together with the limited HRT available options makes everything more challenging, in my opinion.

I still have 13 of the symptoms you listed. Now mind you they are better than they were without HRT but still there none the less. My doctor's cut off time for HRT is 60. How do I go about finding a doctor who will let my body do the talking???? Is there somewhere I can get information on who might be a better fit for me? I am not going to stop HRT!!
