Was at both legs. Gubbed 3-0 at the San Siro, then gave them a bit of a fright at Ibrox without really looking like we could go through. Once they scored we needed 5. Great game though at a time when we were struggling at home. Inter were a class outfit at the time.
I remember this game . As a passionate Rangers fan I was always pessimistic in this era facing big guns like Inter Milan .Great upload dude .So soothing my lockdown boredom .
Great memory .Was at match with dad . Rangers got stuck right in Winning tackles all over pitch One best ever european results Ian Ferguson goal top corner & Cammy Fraser showed was quality player. Thankyou Dad for taking me x
Certe partite andrebbero mostrate ai calciatori di adesso! Erano delle vere battaglie con un pubblico stupendo, calci e gomitate...poi a fine partita abbracci e strette di mano! My first euro game at ibrox😊 i was in the enclosure Pritz played a blinder , Rummingger was nowhere, Brady shat it when he csme to the enclosure, U2 were playing the baras ..glad i went to the game🇬🇧
Jock Wallace told the players to go out and give everything for Rangers even though they were 3-0 down from the first Leg. This Is Why I love Rangers, they will fight to the death, and will never surrender.
Proper European club football. Full stadiums partisan crowds. Attacking football as well didn't matter if you was 3-0 down from 1st leg you still felt you had a chance
McCoist missed an absolute sitter in the first leg which would have given Rangers an away goal. The return at Ibrox saw a great Rangers performance. Inter were a class side though.
Ah, the days before metatarsals had been invented, when you were allowed one horrendous foul without punishment on the basis of “letting them know you were there”, and if there was a serious injury that the physio couldn’t mend with the Magic Sponge they just erected a tent around the player and put them down with a shotgun! 😅
yes I agree with the comment about the kit.Does anyone know why we were wearing that strip that night?Otherwise great upload, good highlights of an otherwise quite shit time for the bears, proved we could still perform even though domestic scene wasn't great,my dad was at this game. Thanks again for the upload mate, much appreciated!
Rangers at one time wore white which goes back to the floodlight games,so introduced for floodlights. Also colour clash Inter being blue. Some spicy tackles and Ally Dawson with his elbow well tuned. The fans sounded very partisan but no p.c. in those days. Hope this helps.Great post and Gers defeated some very big names in Inter that night.
When there was a colour clash in European ties, often it was the home team that changed their kit. In the first leg that I also saw on YT, Inter changed to white shirts.
Not the actual strip as it was used in a couple of league games a few season previous to this, but the application of the CR Smith to the 83-85 pin strip away was a one off in this game before they refered to the away shirt with the blue collar and the red and blue divided bar across with CR Smith! This shirt in that game there due to the advert transfer is a one off though! Sorry, correction, used in away games without the CR Smith in the 83-84 season!
I am a Rangers lad, a Scozzese , I love Italian culture & her people. We fought well that night against a technically better team & came close to winning the over all tie. Forza Italia 💙♥
Not true. Scottish football was actually better and more competitive at that time and teams like us and Dundee utd were dominating and Hearts were decent too. That was a decent Inter milan side there.
@@ianmcbain898Early eighties we never won a league title,I think we might even have been third or fourth a couple of seasons,We we’re going down hill fast till Souness came.
Ian Livingston we had this weird rule for a short period in Scotland when the Home team gave respect to the Away team back in the first half of the 80s. Dad taught me this.
A very strange rule. SFA and maybe the old League had it. This is UEFA here, though. Interesting. I actually agree with it, for fairness' sake. @@suffern63
great to see john McClelland again, was at the match and the away tie in Dublin. worst day of my life, the garda beat the shit out of us, and every window in every bus got bricked by those paddy bastards
To be fair mate the Garda got beat up on the terrace and that bit where the Gers fans had the Garda below them those coppers took some beating .When we came out the ground they had overalls on and white helmets and big riot sticks hitting anybody from oaps to kids included our 2 buses from Duke st Dennistoun had no windows the driver's ones got smashed also all the way from Dublin to Larne with no windows fucking freezing it must have cost that Ulster bus company a lot of cash to fix all those buses but that night was unforgettable I didn't know the final score cos we were watching all the trouble around us 🤕😂
As an Inter Milan fan, thanks so much for posting this pearl. Another era when football was real football

Che tempi. Le trasferte europee negli 80 erano dure su tutti i campi
McCoist missed a sitter in San Siro (unchallenged header) 1st leg... We regretted that missed chance in hindsight. 3-0. San siro / 3-1 ibrox
Brilliant! This was my first European game. First time I've seen this since that night. :-)
Wonderful upload - thanks! Some of those challenges would have the cards flying nowadays mind.
I was in the Govan stand that night, couldn't believe it was so dear for a ticket, £5!! I was used to paying £1 at the east enclosure turnstile lol
Rare strip alert! V-neck Umbro from 1983-85 away top but with CR Smith applied. Unusual.
Rumanigge what a striker old gem
A beauty - shocker that the ref missed Dawson's flying elbow, mind.

Then they died

Great performance from what was a relatively poor Gers outfit that season.Ferguson was the man for the big occasion and Rummenigge looks so dangerous.

Another classic Mr Struth !!
That night I travelled up from Buckinghamshire with a Man Utd mate and went to the Man Utd v PSV Eindhoven game
Was in the old east enclosure that night, great atmosphere, big John Mclelland's last game for Rangers if i remember rightly?
Sempre grande Inter 🖤💙
Un inferno mi ricordo ibrox ...che anni....il vero calcio..
RANGERS WERE SO UNLUCKY THAT NIGHT WE SHOULD HAVE HAD A FAMOUS VICTORY TO ADD TO OR HISTORIC RESULTS IN EUROPEAN COMPETITION..
Great video
nice traditional songs too!!The good old days..
awesome upload again mr struth

Good bluenose is fergie met him plenty of times in the forge market parkhead .
Wasn’t even a full stadium, might have been because we had a poor team at the time,Pre Souness Scottish football was going through a bad time.
We'd lost the first leg 0-3 that wouldn't have helped.
